Hehehe...looks great! Congratulations!

And top away my friend - I did mine three times, the first around the height yours is now, to produce eight main tops going into flower. However, as soon as they did go into flower, the side branches erupted, to create the 'wineglass' shape - will be interesting to see if they do the same outdoors. The Malawi was definitely a bushy pheno, so they shouldn't get too tall and spindly. Watching with interest...:)

I mixed up some new soil mix to be used to re-pot these girls next weekend. I am going to use rice hulls in place of perlite. So my 3 main ingredient @ 1:1:1 coco:rice hulls:compost/ewc. The compost/ewc mix is a mixed batch of a two different compost bins I had going. Things composted include, coco, rice hulls, rice hull charcoal, ewc, cow manure, bokashi, used coffee grinds, pulverised egg shells, porphyra, bat guano, solids from making bio-nutrients, solids from making fish emulsions, coconut meat, rice bran, and 2tbs/gal dolomite! So, that crazy compost mixed with the coco and rice hulls and a bit more dolomite were wet and mixed with compost tea, with fulvic and humic acid. I am letting this settle in bins for a week. I'll make sure to turn it over everyday.

All the plants in the garden look good. The Goldfingers are very vigorous! The genetics from Nirvana are not even close to being as vigorous, yet they are still growing alright. The Thais are right at home!

I kept a clone of each Goldfinger except for the very tall one that showed early, I think it needs to keep as many leaves as it can for now, as it got burnt in that bad feed mishap a few weeks ago.

That compost mix sounds interesting to say the least. Can't wait to see what that + the Thai sun does.

I gave the plants a nice foliar feeding this morning. The tea was made from molasses, Seaweed extract, some Effective MicroOrganism innoculant concentrate, humic and fulvic acid. Bubble 24 hours. I also gave them a refreshing water only dose this morning. This afternoon they are all worshiping the sun!

I am quite happy with my little garden at this point. I have learned my lesson about going overboard with my homemade organic nutes! Less IS more! lol.
Here is some shots from this morning. I also transplanted the rest of the plants into that new mix I made. Here are the pictures from this morning...Also some new editions JLP's SDxOG seedlings! YEAH! Thanks JLP.

I have noticed that some of my plants have pale green/yellow leaves. The new growth has been yellowish...I reckon its mag def..? I gave them a good feed with some batguano/ewc/molasses/fulvic/humic acid/urine tea. I also went online and found that crude rice bran has 780mg of magnesium per 100g. Incidentally, I have some fermented rice bran solution. I put about a teaspoon of the fermented rice bran solution in a litre of water and foliar fed the plants. I HOPE they green up, if not I will look for epsom salt.

The Goldfinger seems to attract a lot of attention from what I think are spider mites? They leave tiny little white dots all over the leaves! To remedy that I sprayed a solution of dishsoap and water (1tsp/litre) onto all of the Goldfingers...hoping for the best. I have never tried any of these methods, so if any one has some comments that'd be great!

Peace

Love what you have going this year ThaiPhoon, i will be looking forward to watching the ladies form up for you in the Thai sun :D

Sounds like you have the nutrient problem under control but as far as spider mites go i would get ontop of that and seclude the plant that is giving you troubles away from the others... nothing worse than getting half way through flower and have no more chlorophyll in your leaves to finish them out and webs all over the place...

i try to get ahold of some spray to kill them off... possibly order offline if you have to... they dont just go away if you have them bad. Neem oil seems to help but you have to constantly stay ontop of spraying as their eggs hatch.

i would look up spider mite control in the search, i personally use a 3 in 1 Safer brand for a spray down. but i know there are more natural ways to help rid of spider mites... Im sure more people will have imput on this...

either way Looking forward to watching the show and i will be watching for you updates.

Hail the leaf :joint:

ThaiPhoon - I'd recommend a Neem product definitely - once a week seems to keep them down. I didn't have any problems from mites at all using this stuff until late flower, and that was with one plant pretty infested in the same growroom:

http://www.growell.co.uk/p/1110/Neem-Repel.html

Malawi isn't too resistant, but I found adding the Flo to the cross seemed to cut down the mites somewhat. Although the MG2 mother was a little weaker than the MG1 in terms of mite-resistance. Drench those babies...:)

Hey Dime, I hope I have the nute thing under control! Well the leaves still pray to the sun even though they lack chlorophyll. I flushed the heck out of them yesterday, I reckon that should solve any Ph issue... time will tell.

EM: The ONLY plants in the garden that are bothered with the spider mites are the MG2 mothered plants...go figure lol. The MG1 xF1 look very indica to me. There are no spider mites on them and they are growing very well. They have not shown sex yet.

Here is a pic of the Mg2Xf2 plant that is flowering...the pistils turned red already...I don't think thats very good. Could be from the soap I sprayed at the mites??

And a shot of the SDxOG "mutant"??

Another photo update

Here it is, August already...how time flies when you are having fun!

A new cloning technique. I have the coconut cubes. Basically just chunks of husk, I have sliced them and inserted a cutting and the coco floats in the water. The coconut husk tinges the water reddish brown. These are the small bottom branches from the mg1xf1. They've been in here for a few days...

A shot of the family...the BlueMystic died a tragic death..:(

The unknown - I am really leaning towards a Cali-o as it smells quite citrusy...

The cali-o's

Here is the Thai plant that had those awesome looking leaves. She went through a hard time. I think the problem really was me adding too many microbes to the soil, which in turn cobbled up all her N! Whatever it was she is pulling through now.

And here are the Goldfingers! I am really pleased with them. The dark green/purple colors are great and they smell delicious...I mean mouth watering!! I guess I would say it smells like skunky fruity spice and a little lemony or something...just awesome!
these!! mg1xf1

Now the other mg1xf1 looks a bit different more of a bush, smell is quite similar...

And the 2 mg2xf2 one is flowering already very early...These ones attract the spider mites. It seems the mites only like these two plants, as they are not on any of the others...

ThaiPhoon - excellent stuff! One or two of those Goldfingers are looking more Flo-like than mine did, though outdoors growing seems to change a lot of phenos anyway.A friend has one outdoors that looks quite a lot the second plant down - hope to see that one again soon. Strange about the spider-mites, but there clearly seems to be varying resistance in the MGs - if all other traits prove similar, I guess keep the ones with no or few mites...:)

Yes the mite problem seems to be under control for now. I mean there are still the white spots. I have sprayed them with some water and detergent and oil. I don't see any little rust colored bugs on them anymore, and no webs. I will let them be, because the mites are not migrating to the other plants I think they're dead, but since these girls ARE outside they may return. I really love that Flo looking plant too. The newer growth on the mg1f1b seems to be looking more sativa now, with thinner leaf fingers. I am hoping for a male to make some more of these beans.

Well I posted this in that grafting thread, but I am gonna post it here in my grow diary as well..
Here is my "hybrid" it is one day old now! The bottom plant is the SDxOG from JLP and the top is a new strain called Goldfinger from ElevatorMan. Goldfinger is a Malawi Gold x Flo cross.

I keep this one in a humidity dome for now. I mist it a few times a day to keep it happy, as it lives outdoors!

Right, well the grafting experiment proved unsuccessful. Also I don't think the clones will make it outdoors either. I need to set up that cabinet again for veg purposes.

Anyways here are the shots de jour. I will be putting all of my plants into those 3 gallon clay pots at the end of the month. I am just waiting on the soil mix to set out for a few weeks...

First up is a Thai that hasn't shown sex-
This one is growing very asymmetrically. Not much smell yet, - the goldfingers overpower them -

A shot of the garden (not sunny today, had to brighten a bit in photoshop)

And a few shots of my favourite Goldfinger plant so far...

Today's photo update...

Some Thai...

The Goldfingers

A Cali-O.

All are girls so far except for the Thai and some Cali-O haven't shown sex yet. I have that one SDxOG from JLP that has shown male preflowers, and another that hasn't shown yet.

Hi jay, long time no see! Thanks for the kind words.

It rained last night pretty hard, one Thai fell over. propped her up with some bamboo -good to go- The soil mix stays pretty loose when wet...I actually had to add more soil because it didn't seem to be heavy enough. Coco and husk are both VERY light and comprised of 66% of the total weight. I just eyeballed the amount of soil, but I would say that the soil is now just over half of the mixture and hold the plants better.
I have found a decent supply of quality soil. Its mixed up by a local graduate of an agriculture uni here..contains composted cow shit - that is very fibrous and fluffy, some coco fiber and pith and I guess local soil...it smells and feels great and the plants like it. I then cut that with that old mix to get the soil mix in the pots now.

Hi DimeBag,

Thanks for dropping by again.

Well I was out taking pics again today... everything out there is a girl or hasn't shown. The only two that are shy are 2 of the Thai plants... 1 of them has shown a preflower or two. I really want a male Thai. Oh right, and the little SDXOG from JLP are still kickin'. They really need longer days. I am pretty sure the one is male and the other hopefully female. I will probably just be able to make some more seeds with them...which is great for now. I really need to get a little indoor thing happening...

These are all Goldfingers except the last one which is a Thai.

Peace.. :joint:
