lemonhead - Well I sure hope so, as we've been getting them in the UK for just over a year now...though the 'stick' is a misnomer, as there is no stick - just solid bud and barely any twigs or seeds. Under a microscope, it looks like brown sugar
ThaiPhoon, those look very nice - is it the photoperiod that's making them flower so early? What time are you on there right now?
lemonhead- I haven't seen nice Thai stick like EM has there! That must be the export quality only.
EM- Yes it is the photo period causing them to flower early. Getting close to the shortest day of the year, here that means about 11hours 20 minutes or so of daylight.
The tallest of the two in the clay pot smells a lot like a mocha coffee! and the buds at this point are rock hard! I may get enough for a nice sized doobie out of it!
The smaller smells more like the Goldfinger! Nice complex fruity flowery scents! Awesome!
My Goldfinger in the cabinet is beginning to stretch now, though I'm tying it down. It has weird bright green patches on new leaves that fade when mature - really strange. I'll post a pic or two when it will let me! But it has bright red stems, and will have the exact same flavour as the #2 pheno I grew a few months ago, so I'm pleased to have that one back!
Funny you mention the 'export quality' of the sticks, as I always assumed that export quality meant dumbass gringo quality; i.e. the best stuff always stayed at home! Maybe not...?
Hey EM about the sticks being export quality was just a guess. I do not know any Thai ganja farmers, so I used to be stuck smoking usually brown compressed brick. Sometimes I was able to find some fresher greenish stuff. Personally I have not seen sticks that look like the ones you have. That's why I believe it to be export quality..?
I really need to get my little veg cabinet back up and running again. I think I want to try and reveg that plant that reeks of coffee and chocolate. I must have made some pretty good soil because I hardly feed them and they are nice and green. The Azomite in there must be working its magic as well!
One member guessed that the sticks (or 'bundles'!) may be from the Chiang Mai district, and another suggested it might be Cambodian or border areas anyway. Not that I care - if this is Cambodian, I'll take some more! It's very strong, but an extremely smooth lift - no jagged feelings.
It's fruity/tobacco/vanilla in taste, which makes me think it may be a dead-ringer for some of the old Chocolate/Juicy Fruit Thais that DJ Short used way back. I've got some seeds left, so I'm happy to whack some over to you, if you want to try some? Ironic or what...?
I think it would be interesting to grow a few "Thai" varieties side-by-side to compare them and what not.
I am worried about the size of these things here! I will have to grow them in smaller pots this time, as I had to cut this years Thai's down..
I am thinking about germinating some Thai, Johnny Blaze and a Bullrider x DC cross this coming May. If I germed them on the full moon in May, and they sprouted in normal time it would give the plants almost a month before the longest day. I hope this method will control the height a little as it would be a shorter veg time.
The Bullrider sound interesting, the person I got them from said they are quite sativery! I can not find a lot of info on the Bullrider, but from the description I have it mustn't be the afghani bullrider.
So for the next few months I will continue experimenting with the beans I have made!
Here're a few pictures of the golden sour kush cross. I hope that name isn't being used by anyone else...The bigger ones are at about 4 or 5 weeks into bloom.
Hey jaykush, good to see ya around! I hope those beans are working out for you. I just got some new stuff from Laos. There are very few seeds in it. I think I found only 5 of them!
Here're some more photos of the Golden Sour Kush (GSK) haha.
GSK = [Malawi Gold X Flo] x [Sour Diesel IBL x SugeNite OG Kush Bx1]
The Malawi Gold/Flo cross is called Goldfinger made by ElevatorMan and the SD/OG cross came from JLP.
First up the mutant:
This one is a few weeks behind the others:
And these ones should be ready in about 2 weeks or so...
Hey EM, Man those Goldfinger plants you have there are looking fantastic! I have also been following that DJ test thread. Very Cool!
I am thinking about getting something small and stealthy like a PC case grow going, mainly to try and re-veg the taller of the two latest into flowering! I smell skunky coffee from that one. The coffee smell is very unique to me, but the real proof is in the smoking!
