Yeah, chicago is hosting the rams this sunday, should be an interesting game. I know the bears arent good but im leaning towards nfc west teams having issues with nfc north teams, given rams and cards lost to detroit, niners lost to the vikings. Course, those are the 2 best teams in the north and the bears are last but the offense did look alive a little in the 2nd half vs the colts, hopefully they can carry that over.

Buzz has a generator and i think he said he can run some lights and the water (well pump) while it runs. It's not as comfortable but it's doable if power is out for a while. Is it a diesel? Those are loud to run but u can run them continiously while spending less on fuel.

The forecast tracks are all piled up in our neighborhood so it is going to get sporty tomorrow afternoon and into Friday. It has been many years since 100 mph winds but I have been in several. Donna in 1960, Betsy in 1965 knocked over more than 250 mango and avocado trees in our grove. Lots of close to 100 mph storms passing by over the years.

Tomorrow night is going to suck.

It took me a day and a half to put those heavy suckers in place with 3" deck screws. After Michael rolled close by in 2018 I looked into DIY hurricane shutters. I can install them all in about 2.5 hours by myself.

Nothing is happening here now; just cloudy. Tomorrow is when the winds pick up and then around 8 P is when the heavy winds start. It is a fast moving storm but that means 12 hours of thrills and chills.

By some defensive metrics the rams are a bottom 3 team in the league, but that is probably/mostly due to them playing the tigers, cards and niners the first 3 weeks.

Geez, looks like the center of Helene is going to be about 8 miles west of your location? So you'll be in the eye of the hurricane for a bit but before and after will be hellacious amounts of rain and wind. It's now a category 4 but even more concerning is its overall size, it's in the top 10% of hurricanes as far as how many sq miles it covers. Now theyre predicting storm surge of 20ft along the coasts.

Yes we sit high above sea level and it's a little over 54 miles straight line to the coast. It will be soggy and the sump pump will be off line for who knows how long?

I am very very nervous about this H-word approaching. The days after the storm are going to be the worst part after the worst part of Helene runs over us. It's going to be a long day sitting and waiting.

The fridge and freezer will be on the generator after the storm passes. I had planned our monthly family dinner for tomorrow. I have dough for 4 pizzas in the fridge now that will go into the freezer tomorrow when they are finished their cold rise. I had timed it to coincide with my birthday on Saturday. I hope Helene is not expecting to attend.

This morning there was no sun to be seen. The red sky morning was yesterday and it was about as red as the hurricane lilies. By the time I walked Bonnie back to the house the red colors had faded, but it did not go unnoticed. The doors are not covered. I'm charging camera, phone and computer today as part of the routine. If it gets wild tonight I will have the camera to record sounds. There will be AFTER pictures on Friday. Helene is supposed to be in S Georgia at 1A on the 27th. We'll be in under the gun then.

I have 35 gallons of gas stashed in one of the sheds which should last us for a week. I filled the last three cans this morning. I parked the car out in the open away from the trees. No wind here yet. Now we wait.

Pecan tree in the back yard is very large and within the reach of falling branches. Same as the tree in the front yard.

We'll be huddled at this end of the house.

I ordered clear lexan panels to allow light into the house. The plywood made it dark as a tomb and it was depressing and gloomy. That's a crepe myrtle on the left of frame. I have pruned a lot of branches on that tree because the branches had grown over the roof. In a high wind those branches would beat the roof like a drum.

The clear lexan h-word shutters are a very nice upgrade, were they expensive? I know the metal roof must not have been cheap. But like they say, buy once, cry once.

I hope those nearby trees are still (mostly) standing after it's all said and done. The highest winds ive experienced here were in the 40mph range, and that's enough to bring down big branches. I cant imagine what 80mph winds would do. And all the rain previously and the rain that's coming has made the ground soft so entire trees being uprooted is a possibility.
A bit of good news is that the eye is tracking to pass to the east of u, and the winds on the west side of the eye should be a good 20-25mph slower than the winds on the east side. Fingers crossed and prayers up!

i sit at a whopping few hundred feet above sea level, but i live up on a mesa, the valleys around me are super prone to flooding and you have to avoid certain areas after a heavy rain
the water off san diego is too cold for hurricanes to make it this far north but we still get the ripples from the ones down south on the beach
i would not trying to rush kupp or nakua back only to see them get hurt again and would rather they sit an extra game or two then come back strong in the second half of the season
if the jv crew can keep us around .500 a wild card spot is not out of the picture
some football tonight with the cowboys of tx battling it out with the giants of ny
