foxfarm ocean forest

looking nice dude. I might have to try those grow bags next time. It seems that since this is my 5th grow cycle that I think I'm getting things, but I guess I still have a lot to learn. Main concern is that I've never gotten any real big monster cola's (like i see in a lot of pics) and i wasn't sure if it was a lack of light, nutes, or no CO2. I'm hoping to get there this time (and of course I'm not going to overfert.) Especially since I have 800W of Son Agro HPS (which i believe has some of the blue spectrum)

nono, how do you like the B&W bags, other than the holes?

well previously i'd used pots but since i started 15 seeds this go and i'm looking for mother plants instead of putting them into flower i decided instead of trying to find 13 pots (13 seedlings survived, 8 flo, 5 lisa marie) that fit (which can be hard when you're standing in the store lining pots up on the ground trying to measure the dimensions and all) i could just use bags. they seem fine so far and they were cheap. have the black lining to prevent light getting into them and the white outsides to bounce the light off. a bit trickier to hold open and such when transplanting but no big deal if you have steady hands.

in a few weeks they will move up to 1 gallon bags and then once they are sexed i plan to take clones and move the plants to 2 or 3 gallon bags (by then i'll have my second c22 built with my 400w hps to put in it and my new 600w hps in the first cab.. so they will fit. then i will get on the lst training and eventually transplant to 5 gallon squared kitty litter buckets (of which 4 fit perfectly in each cab.. so i'm hoping for 8 of 13 to be female.. who knows tho?) for flowering. once i find the keepers i can ditch all the other moms and will have one cab converted back to veg to start the blueberry mom-hunting and whatever other genetics i decide i want.

i have a small tv stand thing converted to be the mom chamber totally seperate of both the cabs.

800w of light and some nice treed up plants should definetely be sufficient to produce massive colas if the genetics allow it. remember some plants just don't get as big as others can.

humidity is also something to consider (along with light, nutes, fresh air with ample co2, veg time, root mass, proper feeding, etc.) if you can't get big dense buds.

personally i like FF OF and LW mixed 50-50 then add 50% perlite i must hear the perlite clink against itself in the mix lol mix the soil very very well {tends to be kinda hot}. also added in soil 2tsp/gal soil dolimite lime then after 2 weeks on the 3rd week i'll introduce FF Grow Big @ 1/4 tsp per gal only once a wk. also in this ferted water i'll add 1/4 tsp/gal diamond necture fulvic acids {nice root stuff}, i have noticed in the use of this soil water PH of 6.5 seems to be the best for my strain. when i flip 12/12 i'll transplant use 1/2 cup big bloom and continue grow big @ 1/4 tsp/gal water 1st 2 wks of stretch when i see flower forming i'll introduce tiger bloom also 1/4 tsp per gal water.
i dont go over 1/2 tsp/gal water tiger bloom but will use big bloom full strentgh

grow big drops your water PH
tiger bloom drops your water PH
big bloom dosent drop mine lol

i'll add my nutes then adjust if needed my waters PH

recently i've made the mistake of introducing a bloom burst to early but i'll just cut that chem out all together. go back to almost organic grow lol almost because FF ferts are organic based {trace minerals} not much but there for those concerned personally im more concerned about the air i breath then these FF ferts

so whats the best way to check for optimal humidity or to add it to the set up. obviously a humidifier possibly, but i've never dealt with this subject. still somewhat a noob i guess.

Ok so i guess i'll have to suppliment my ff soil with some fert nutes during flower. I'll go with the safe 1/4 dosage and see how it goes. How does one go about transplanting a rooted plant? This and the ferts will probably be the hardest part for me since ive never done either. But i have confidence that the good people here at ICMag will guide me well.

thx for the hydroton idea, guiniea. the smallest bag was way more than i need for my hydro down the road, so ill put it to use on my soill.

what were you saying about making sure all the nutes are used up? is ocean forest heavy on nitrogen? all i have is ocean forest soil and i dont want to go to the hydro store again so soon as it involves paying a family member to borrow their car. :p

I also have a full bag of vermiculite...what sounds good for a flowering mix, maybe 1/3 verm 1/3 ocean forest 1/3 perlite? and some 1/4 strength flora nova bloom to start?

Man I dont understand how you folks get away with using no nitrogen during veg,my plants would look like hell!Maybe if I started in a big container but thats not the right way to do it.I have to feed my girls or they will get a big attitude

I have had moms growing in the same container of OF for over 6 months, I just had to start feeding about a month ago. So I got 5 months of mom food out of the soil!! My moms grow under CFL's so it isn't very aggressive growth, but it is sufficient for my needs.

Skeletor...are you vegin under HID's? Is it an aggressive veg? I would assume the nutrients are going to be depleted much faster with aggressively growing plants under strong HID lighting. How soon after transplanting into OF do you have to feed?

St0n3r...I wouldn't mix at all. That is why you paid $20 a bag for this stuff, it is premixed for you. If you want to mix your own soil, I would recommend starting with a cheaper base, like pro-mix or a cheaper potting soil. If you have FFOF, use it straight, right out of the bag for best results.

Hashy..transplanting is easy as 1,2,3. It's not rocket science....Prepare the new pot with fresh soil, pull the plant out of the old container and put into new container, backfill with soil until your new pot is full. Don't make it any more difficult than it has to be. If you need any help, let us know.

I transplant my rooted cuttings into small 4 inch pots and use plain water. The second time I use 1/2 strength grow big.I'm under t-12 flo's for a couple days then its 400MH them 800 combo MH HPS then 1000MH before they go to the flower room. They grow like hell man,but I know they wouldnt if I didnt feed um.Ocean forest simply isnt a preferted medium

K

kokua

skeletor...IT IS A PREFERTED MEDIUM!!! Why do you keep saying it isn't?

Because it isnt man.You show me on the bag where there is an NPK rating,if there is no rating, there are no ferts!Even worm castings has a 1-0-0 NPK,but not ocean forest.Look at a bag of miracle grow soil,if its preferted there is an NPK rating. No NPK rating,no ferts!

I am not sure about the NPK rating on the outside of the bag...I've wondered about that too :) That usually means the NPK is there, but not high enough to register. Acording to FoxFarm there is a months worth of guano's and meals...

The ultimate potting soil—everything your plants need, in one bag. Ocean Forest® is a powerhouse blend of premium earthworm castings, bat guano, and Pacific Northwest sea-going fish and crab meal. Composted forest humus, sandy loam, and sphagnum peat moss give Ocean Forest® its light, aerated texture. Start with Ocean Forest® and watch your plants come alive!

Garden tip: Perfect for containers and ready to use right out of the bag. Ocean Forest® is pH adjusted at 6.3 to 6.8 to allow for optimum fertilizer uptake. There’s no need for nitrogen fertilizers at first; instead try an organic blend like FoxFarm Big Bloom™ Liquid Plant Food to encourage strong branching and a sturdy, healthy growth habit.

Thats an ad bro!Notice they say ph adjusted to allow for max fertilizer uptake, but you have to put in the fertilizers for them to be uptook lol. Many soils have ingredients that are great for growing plants, but that doesnt mean they are preferted. They say no need for nit at first, how long is "at first" and what plants are they referring to?They're all different in their needs, that includes different strains and pheno's of erbski.Do me a flavor bro respond to the co2 boost thread in the equipt. forum if you know where I can get some kind of PPM monitor thats not part of an expensive system,I'd sure appreciate it.I've never found one and just use the syringe/tube test

already responded :)

I don't know what to tell you about the Ocean Forrest...we will have to agree to disagree :) I will go by what my plants tell me, and you can do the same, and we can both be right..lol :)

dankbudz

it is pre ferted it says on the bag....with eartworm castings and guano

Lets remember folks...organic materials offer nutes over a long period of time, unlike chemical nutes which are gone within a week or 2. I stand by my comments that FFOF is to rich to feed anything extra except Cal/Mag. No matter how light I feed it still seems to overdose on the N.

Just out of curiosity are you growing clones or seedplants and what size container are you starting out in?
