Our Borough Assembly spent over a quarter-million dollars of local property owners' tax money, and applied for permission to use another quarter-million, purposed for wining and dining DoD folks to get a decision that would land us a group of aircraft, pilots, support teams and families into what would come to be tax-free/tax-reduced housing around North Pole, Alaska, due to the Borough's awareness of the gift such a placement would provide to the local economy. (Meanwhile I'm paying somewhere near 18.5 mils on my property taxes).

They craftily side-stepped direct questions about their interests having nothing to do with actual national security and everything to do with who presented the nicest, biggest, bestest perks and 'glory hounding' praise for the military.

These are the people we trust to make strategic decisions about our security and defenses.

Coincidentally (sarcasm), Eielson Air Base had been slated to be closed at least two times in recent history preceding those 'negotiations', which was narrowly averted each time, and was saved by the F-35 decision, after they had already planned for and begun phasing out the F-16s that were there previously.

The loss of one cash cow replaced by another... What our National Defense systems -really- dance to.

Tyndall is home to 55 F-22 stealth fighters, which cost a dizzying $339 million each. Before the storm, the Air Force sent at least 33 of the fighters to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.

The B2 still has a very good record considering it flew it's first combat mission in 1999. It's a very impressive piece of technology. The B21 Raider is even more advanced.

There's also the F-35 Lightning which is impressive as well.

It is unreal how conflict addicted some people have become. It appears all they want to do is cheer-lead for death and destruction.

This is a social ill and probably conditioned into the younger generations by those military sponsored 1st person shooter games such as COD and MW. Sure those games can be fun, but as you can see, in some individuals it creates blood lust and conditions a desensitization to the human condition and sanctity of life.

That's not a bad thing really, fighting sucks, but it does teach you a valuable lesson when you loose.

Despite any failures it's still the most advanced fighter aircraft deployed at scale in the world. There's close to 1000 in service.

I was specifically referring to failures of turbines and equipment in cold weather (not an arctic aircraft at the time they were placing them up here), and pilots' complaints about poor visuals from the cockpit in targeting.
They were an economic boom to the local money pit, and little more up here at that time.

Look into the hundreds of thousands spent by the Fairbanks North Star Borough in romancing the DoD to put them up in the Interior of Alaska (far more extreme cold than Los Anchorage), despite our being much further from the Coast than the joint air base/army base JBER near Anchorage.

DoD runs a money game. Performance and functionality come second to kick-backs and profiteering.

From Reagan's Star Wars Program to the Blackhawks, to the early M-16s, they have often produced high-dollar garbage and corrected it later after loss of life.

Everybody's a tough guy online. I remember before the internet if you were going to talk shit it had to be in person. There are no repercussions when talking anonymously to people you don't know and may live thousands of miles away from.

US sailors accidentally film the crash of an F-35 fighter jet.

The crash of a fifth-generation US F-35 fighter jet in the South China Sea was accidentally caught on camera by a carrier crew member's mobile phone. The video images revealed the cause of this disaster and are likely to have a very serious impact on the future operation of the fifth generation American combat aircraft.

The video shows the American fighter turning and landing. The pilot lost speed too quickly, while the bridge was still far enough away, and when he attempted a second approach, the fighter engine simply could not develop the necessary thrust.

It is remarkable that the version about the failure of the fighter systems appeared a few hours after the incident. Additionally, it has been claimed that the pilot may have been misinformed of the flight altitude. This does not exclude interference in the fighter's systems by electronic warfare systems, especially since the crash occurred near Chinese military bases in the Paracel Islands.

Currently, the United States is trying to carry out an operation to recover the sunken F-35 fighter, but the United States Navy does not have the necessary equipment.
