Whatever Israel is, it is no empire. Imagining Israel through an Imperial or Colonial lens is precisely the problem; plenty of historical examples cautioning against such Imperial thinking.

War is a result of the failure to resolve problems by any other means. It seems that this is what you you are taking exception with and I agree. There is another side however and that is the pure aggression and greed of some people or groups. This is a recurring theme with some political people or groups who refuse reason and insist on just taking what they want regardless.

I agree, barbarism also seems to be part of the human condition, well evidenced by the events of the last few days. I just wish we could get past that as a global society, we can learn so much more and be so much more productive if we all could learn to work together. Probably something I could work on myself too.

I find the speakers corner can be a bit like a cocaine bar, people rock in here hard and fast, egos out and proud, all being kind of assholes to each other, people stay way too long... But that comedown isn't so nice, we all came here originally for the same reason and it's cool there is a place like IC where the misfit cannabis growers of the world can come together in peace (mostly). Sometimes I hate the speakers corner and sometimes I like that there is a place we can all come to vent a bit. Gotta take the good with the bad sometimes.

There are those who labored for years secure in the knowledge that they shall be able to use this to further things which I shudder to even think of. More money than any could ever dream of have financed and supported such as this for well over a hundred years. The names need not be spoken.

I too see hermans view as a bit saddening, however in context I can understand it a bit. I think like many white Americans have with African Americans, many Germans hold a cultural feeling of guilt when it comes to Jewish people. But I think the actions of the state of Israel shouldn't necessarily be affiliated with it's people. Perhaps this will lead to a positive outcome for these two peoples in the end, however I am not feeling all that positive about humanity this morning.
