You can grow lots of small clones in a vertical setup or you can grow 5-9ft trees. Withs vertical SOG you jsut put plants all around the bulb on all sides. When growing trees, you just hang a light on each side of the plant.. setting it up where each plant gets 3-4 sides of light instead of just 1 from a horizontal grow.

With proper strain, growing skills/method you will be able to get 2-3+ pounds per plant. THe key is to have a veg room as well.. vegging for 8 weeks while the others flower for 8 weeks. No trimmnig needed, nor topping, let it grow straight up and it will naturally branch a lot.

Vertical works and it's the shit but you have to know how to setup for it to work efficiently. You don't use any cooltubes or anything. Just put those circular fans under each bulb and that will blow the heat away from the bulb/plants.. then you can get 5-6 12 inch inline fans sucknig the heat out of the grow room or install an AC. Heat disperses a lot better because it's gonig upwards to the ceiling, since you dont use reflectors.

You would also use 400 watt eye blue MH bulbs in veg on each sides of the plants. You obviously wouldn't run a bunch of veg lights but you need to make it where the plants have light on at least 2 sides at all times. You'd need about 4,000 veg watts for this setup. Same thing applies.. circular fans under bulb blowing heat away.. and a couple of 12 inch fans sucking the heat out of the room. Don't skimp on the veg room. Keep fresh bulbs every 3-4 months.

heres an example of a flower room i plan to construct in the future.. you need a 20 length x 30 width room for this (size of plants, walknig space, and equipment are all considered in space) Add more space for a veg room/harvesting room. You could go with rDWC system and each row can have it's own reservoir or DTW coco in 10-15 gallon buckets. .again each row can have their own rez.

THis is the most efficient commercial setup i've thought of. 7 plants are getting 4 sides of light and the rest are getting 3 sides of lighting. Much better than 1 side lighting you get with horizontal. (hence why you have to pack a lot more plants to achieve 1 gram per watt.) Also, forget about the 1 gram watt rule if you have your vertical setup dialed in. You will get an easy 1.2 - 1.5 with propper strain. ak47, ak99, critical mass, even your powerplant would shine with vert. Also hazes would do great as well.

** this setup wont be as efficient if you flip flop the room. It's meant to run all at once, thats how you get 3-4 sides of lighting at once.

** no need to scrog or anything; just be prepared to tie up the heavy branches with 16 gauge craft wire or whatever you prefer. You can hang hooks/chains above each plant so this will hold your branches.

** make sure humidity and environment is always in check.

**Replace your bulbs in both veg and flower regularly. Get the best. I prefer the eye blue MH for veg and all hortilux's for flower. Have extra pumps etc.

** could hang rows of chains across the entire ceiling, spaced 12-14 inches apart so you can use them to tie branches and move the lights around if needed.

** dont need to rotate the plants

any reason running 600's and 1000's in flower instead of just all 1000's, are you running 400w's for veg so they all get 360 veg instead of 600's?

Could you link us / Name that system?
They look nice - looks like something like 40cm * 50cm counting the bricks.
ive found another cheap system which might be interessting for some people growing small scale who want to improve their system to perform a little better ... i think it would even be possible to build up a whol system with those small vertical walls:

VertiGardenStarterKit.jpg

since its a stackable system you can build up whole walls:

BigWall.JPG

... its 29 pound one part ... pretty cheap in my opinion

The 4 pictures above are Heath Robinson's new vertical system, I think he has done a very good job, he was saying that he got over 2.5 grams per watt on another forum, he was growing a big yielder tho, critical mass. Either way over 2.5 gpw is a monster yield. If I could get a gram per watt I'd be very very happy never mind 2.5!!! :jump::jump::jump::jump:

My next setup will be a Vertical system, gonna run a V-Scrog type. Here is a pic to explain what I mean:

V-Scrog.jpg

I'll be running this vertical system as opposed to other hydro sog type systems for a few reasons, I have nothing growing at this moment so I'll be starting from seed, have never grown hydro before but I plan to once I get this grow over and gather some mother plants. What I haven't explained in the diagram is that the scrog net will be 18" in diameter, it will have a powerful 18" floor fan inside at the base, this will keep great airflow around the plants and more importantly push all the heat from the bulb up to the extractor.

Vertical/Hydro/SOG is the most efficient way to grow IMO, the whole idea of using as much of the lumen's as possible makes perfect sense, if you had the perfect soil mixture, the perfect nutrients that the plant needs, the perfect environment, But held back on the light your yield would suffer dramatically. Light is the NUMBER 1 source of energy for your plant, if you had a bad nutrient mixture, bad environment, bad soil mix, BUT 10,000 Watts you would still get a MASSIVE yield, I know I'm preaching a little bit here to people that already understand the mechanics of vertical growing but I just like to get my views and opinions out of as I have no other way, I keep all my growing interests and knowledge to myself for security reasons and tend to keep it that way, but ICmag lets me get it all out :jump::jump:

Now on to light efficiency, the next diagram's should explain a lot to you growers that haven't went vertical before, Krusty made this diagram back in the Overgrow dayz:

LiDiagramB-1.jpg

lidiagrama.jpg

As you can see their are a few benefits to vertical lighting, Number 1 The majority of the heat produced by the HID is pushed upwards to your exhaust vs the horizontal hood that traps heat and directs it at your plant's. The main advantage to this is that you can put your plants closer to your bulb's without worrying about burning them, 1 grower I know can get his plants up to 6" from his 1000w bulb!!

Number 2 The next benefit vertical growing is that you will be using 360o of your light, you want to absolutely cover the outer diameter of the bulb with plants so barely any light can escape, this will give you the best efficiency you will be blasting your plants with as many lumen's as possible. Compare this method to a horizontal garden, if you look at the diagrams you can see that a massive 50% of the light is reflected thus killen thousands of lumen in the process and after all less lumen's = less yield and we don't want that now do we!

Benefit Number 3, This next benefit is for space, the amount of space you save by growing is phenomenal, a 600w lamp would be fit for a 4X4 area at very most, and even this is only a low 37.5 watts per square foot. compare this to a vertical set up, you could have a vert system 3 foot in diameter but 8 foot high and fill it with 300 plants have 10 of these in one room......ya get the idea?

Ok I'll stop typing and see what you guys think, hope I haven't bored you with information you already know. :jump:jump:

I for got to put in this chart:

1157989-Foot-Candle2520Chart2520HPS.jpg

Right well according to this chart the maximum distance you can get your plants to your 1000w hid is 10 inches, this will blast 62,000 lumen's at them compared to 35,000 at 12 inches, that's a BIG drop for only 2 inches. What I must now consider is what strains to grow out and how many I could fit around a 600w at 18 inches diameter, I was hoping for 10 but I think 8 would be the more sensible number, thing is i have some KILLER KILLER strains and I want em all haha, I'll be building 4 vertical 'pods' in my new grow room for a total of 2400w, each 'pod' will hold 1 STRAIN ONLY as I'll be growing some haze dom plants, sativa dom, hybrids, and indica. this is the only way I can do it.

great thread

some one should ask a mod or an admin to have it moved to the new vertical section so it will be easier to find again and work with

wow very nice to have a forum for itself :abduct:

got now a very commercial system which ive known of a long time but i think its worth posting it - probably many commercial growers cant handle like many colosseums at once (closed system) so they need something they can really work with and the so called growwall should be the perfect thing for this demand (also called pi-wall) - very simple system but looks pretty interessting:

nice one in my opinion but pretty expensive :nanana:

and another one - the kweek ketel:

im not sure how much it does cost and if its still available at the moment ...

Wow! Such great stuff in the thread! I want to do a new system with all PVC in a column style next but just got mine working smoothly so may be a while!

Gunnarguchi - I usually pull 5-7 pounds with my runs in the 3 k setup but I do alot of strains that dont yeild like the Piss does.

With that being your first post, I'm guessing you sell them. But it does look pretty awesome.

^ nope. I`m just reading since 2007/08. but I`m very interested in vertical grows.
I thought I posted allready but the system says NO?

you know: if you got nothing to contribute - it's better to keep the mouth shut! ;)

y not make only 1 hole?
there 4 of them! (doors) lots of canopy space is wasted
Y use 3.5 liters for sog?!

i wouldn't buy it

Note how the cages are suspended from trolleys on a track. The unit closes in to utilize all of the light. Nothing wrong with that set up at all.

nicet to see the thread alive!

Y use 3.5 liters for sog?!

i agree - thats a little too much since the plants are just able to grow about a foot or less tall!

im gonna add my system real quick because the thread will disappear sooner or later:

-250w
-64 plant sites
-topfeed hydro in pvc pipes
