The Search for Trip Weed

led05

Chasing The Present
Led05,

We've been around this merry-go-round before, but I think it is important to get peoples feedback on a regular basis. I'm going to make two top 3 lists because things have changed so much in my lifetime. My first 15 years of smoking was all tropical and subtropical sativa. In the late 70s, buds from hash plants started to become available. By the 80's, it was all the rage to cross hash plants with the classic tropical and subtropical sativas. Now, it is extremely rare to find pure sativas or pure indicas.

Top 3 lifetime trippy Cannabis strains:

1.) Neville's Haze - I believe the seeds I grew were mostly pure tropical/subtropical sativa with a minor amount, possibly, of hash plant.
2.) Thai Stick (skinny) - I smoked this for nearly a decade and the quality, character, and potency were very consistent. I believe that S.E. Asian peoples brought Cannabis to it's pinnacle of trippy and potent.
3.) Sumatran - Another S.E. Asian product of similar character to Thai Stick.

Top 3 trippy strains of my experience in "modern" time, the last 2 decades:

1.) Neville's Haze - The very unique plant that I found from these seeds had the trippy and electric feel of S.E. Asian and a more mushroomy effect from some supreme Mexican strains.
2.) SAGE - The cutting of SAGE that I was gifted is holding up against many strains I have tested as the most trippy. It seems a nice blend of clear electric and profound trippy. It may be somewhat mild, but the quality is very solid.
3.) Bangi Haze - Some individuals of this line are so clear and euphoric that it is stunning. Definitely trippy in the heightened senses that occurs.

Honorable Mentions: Zamaldelica, Burmese, Johnny Blaze, Nanan Bouclou, Thai-Skunk. I have not yet popped my Highland Mexican x Blueberry, but from the consistent reports it appears to have trippiness to it.

TB - can you share more about the NH that appears on both lists?

Flowering time, was it indoor or outdoor grown, appearance, leaf color, structure, smells etc - anything that made it seem different from other Nevs you've grown but didn't have that same, amazing effects?

Thanks as always

Neville's Haze Freak Pheno:

18 weeks to ripen.

Grown indoors.

Much narrower leaves and lighter in color than the rest of the pack. No buds. It was a Dr. Grinspoon phenotype under indoor conditions. I had another strain that was an excellent yielder outside, but barely made buds indoors. The serrations on the leaves were sharp and very slightly curved. The leaflets curved inwards slightly. The smallest leaflets together looked like a handlebar mustache.

The aroma was sharp citric with distinct metallic/metal shop smell when the stem was rubbed. The buds had a fresh aroma, like barely noticeable mint/menthol against the floral smell.

Very slow growing and tiny internode space at first. I flowered it's sisters before it got big enough to cut it back or flower it. Once it got a head of steam, it was lanky.

Very finicky. The first time I grew it under 12/12 hours, it turned out like Thai Stick and psilocybin. The next time I grew it, I got cute. I turned the lights back to 10 hours on for the last two months. It shaved off two weeks of ripening time, but it sucked. I strongly suspect we are all missing out on amazing strains because we do not know how to grow them.

The high was very powerful with a euphoric adrenaline rush. Remember to breath in through the nose, and out the mouth type of intensity. Felt like you were going to lose it, but supremely blissful at the same time. At the peak, I got waves of euphoric warmth washing over me. Super narrow eyes since it is way too bright on earth. Later, my cheeks hurt from grinning too much. These are all symptoms of a Thai Stick high. But this was different. It was also psilocybin mushroom like high. At first I thought it was a dud due to the delay in onset of the high. But then it hit me instantly. It was like I suddenly woke up. Felt like I lost time and possibly passed out sitting upright. Then a feeling of impending doom hit my stomach as the high slowly built up to that extreme adrenaline rush. This would scare the shit out of a first time user. In fact, I had known several people in my lifetime that quit smoking weed forever just for the Thai Stick type of high. To me, the high is so beautiful at the peak and the very slow taper, that the rush to the peak is worth the slight discomfort. I actually have come to like it. I had to go on some errands after about an hour after smoking. I drove a mile and then asked my wife to drive. I never do that. If I'm in a car, I want to hold the wheel. This was also the only time that my young daughter noticed that I was high. She looked at me curiously with a puzzled look. She was also smiling at me at the same time because I had a Cheshire cat grin.

This was the best weed I ever smoked, and I've smoked a lot of great strains over the 50 years I have been smoking. The best weed I ever smoked was something I grew, indoors no less. I am so lucky.

I found a picture of Oaxacan on ICMAG that had leaves that looked the closest to the leaves on that plant:

I wish I had pictures of the Neville's Haze Freak.

I thought that Neville's Freak pheno expressed traits of a cross between a Mexican Gold and Thai. Oaxaca is known for it's magic mushrooms. It makes sense to me that they bred their weed to resemble psilocybin. Highland Guerrero x Blueberry is known for its phase shiftiness, like shrooms.

^^ Well that is interesting on the light schedule. I run mine 9/15 to save time now. If I can narrow down a strain, will try it at 12/12 just to be sure it has all it has to offer.

The HM x BB in some phenos, does contain the shroom high but without the Thai roller coaster/ space launch effect you like. Better for me but not you.

Glad the nanan bouclou worked so well for you. I had a good hunch it would. Not your grail though. Maybe if gone thru for extreme phenos with long light schedule it could contain what you want?

super interesting and thank you..! I generally start at 15 hours Veg and then flower is 12/12 with 10 minutes shaved off weekly until it hits 1030/1330, maybe I should stop at 11 on? I hear you on the 12 /12 but unless ur spot on the equator everyone has a little shift.... either way, thanks and appreciate your always detailed answers, obviously others do too !!!!!!

I've noticed most hazes the stems smell more than the flowers, its cool, you get a hint early :)

Greetings,

I've played around with light schedule and observed that different schedules affect each strain a little differently. For some, I see no difference in outcome. In the case of that Neville's Haze Freak, the difference was dramatic. I've settled in on only dialing it back to 11/13 at the most. 11.5/12.5 might be safer for equatorial varieties.

I have pictures of dry Nanan Bouclou buds:

I love this weed.

I have a patient that thinks that all weed is the same, generally. Even this patient made a comment that this weed is "wake and bake", and also mentioned how good it tastes. However, this same patient once waxed poetic about sitting in a window and gazing into the garden after smoking Bangi Haze. Never heard that about other strains from the patient. As usual, it is always as important or more important to observe what people do than to listen to what they say.

In related news, I received some Bangi Haze crosses. Checking out the ACE Seeds catalogue, I noticed that Bangi Haze was listed the CBD content as "NULL". LOL. Same as my Wicked Weed.

I think I need some nanan bouclou seeds. One of two sources I've heard for PNG gold the other being MNS walkabout which has plenty other lines in it. I guess I'll get a pack or two

Speculation has it that Nanan Bouclou has Papua New Guinea Red in its ancestry, collected from a population growing in Cape Tribulation Australia. Notice that the second picture above shows enough traces of red to give the buds a red aura. I saw red streaks in the stems, touches in some of the oldest calyxes, as well as the dying pistils.

The other 50% of the genetics are reported to be Haitian "indica". WTF?! Haiti is in the Caribbean, the sub tropics. There is some wide leaf and early flowering traits, obviously. Judging by the effects, I highly doubt there is 50% indica in this. I strongly suspect less than 25% indica, and it must be a special indica. In my experience, even a tiny percentage of indica ruins the sativa effect. The euphoria and energetic effects dominate this plant. It does have this sweeeeeeeeeeet honey oil taste, which is a bit hashy. I should emphasize the sweetness of it. LOL. The one I grew indoors was quite different. Very low potency, but I think it was very trippy. Could it have been so clean and clear that I did not notice that I was high except a momentary head rush? Possibly. I will explore the seeds further, but this one is easily good enough that I want the genes from this individual in my production plants.

The more that time passes, the more I gush about this stuff. At this point, I still prefer the SAGE genetics I have as superior with regard to trippiness. I'm hoping a long cure changes this.

Greetings,

When I started smoking weed, approximately 45 years ago,ThaiBliss

hey there TB:wave: i'm gonna be 57 soon and i started smoking as a youngster in 1973, so i am familiar with a lot of the imports you speak of... i enjoy the way you talk about the very specific effects of ganja and also the specific effects that U R seeking out... what R ur thoughts about Sativa Marijuana to be used as an aide in fighting manic depression ?? the reason i ask is that i struggle with that and i'm not sure if THC is helping , or compounding the issue ... do U have any thoughts about this ?? peace :ying:

In all honesty, I don't know what the f*** I'm talking about with this situation. I prefer energetic and euphoric strains because I am often depressed and don't need some couch lock stuff that seems to make it worse for me. But, I'm not often manic.

Have you ever tried not smoking for a few months?

If I were you, I would not be eager to take some layman's advice on this. I'm not even sure if I'm manic depressive. Although, it takes one to know one, and I'm wondering why you are asking me. LOL.

I'm joking about it, with regard to me, but it's probably un-cool. I know someone who is manic depressive, and we often go a long time before hearing from him on a regular basis. I worry about him.

Best,

T.B.

Well star...,

You are following and contributing to the right thread. B.T.W., thanks for chiming in here. My preference is for the uplifting trippy strains. You should try Nanan Bouclou and my other favorites, SAGE and Bangi Haze.

We would love to see pictures and descriptions of your recent C99 tests. This is not my thread, it is meant for all of us to post on. The contributions of others like you makes it better.

Nana Bouclou is advertised as a pure sativa on the Southern Star seeds website.
Yes, but it ripened by mid October here at 42 North. Did you see the fat leaves my indoor test had? Haiti does have some tall mountains and a hurricane season which could influence the creation of an early ripening strain.

It is pure sativa in effect, I'll give them that.
