Hey Desert Rat, Nice set-up. I also use GH nutrients. I just switched to RO water, and I can't seem to find the right balance with the CalMag. My lower leaves are kind of yellow, which makes me think I'm using too much, and blocking N, P or K.

How much CalMag per gallon do you use? Thanks!

cal-mag

cal-mag

depending on light conditions on the lower part of your plant, this may be normal. low light = low Photosynthesis, the plant will rob nutrients from the leaves. As far as cal-mag I typically run 150 to 200 ppm

I have also been using the GH3 system nutrients. When the garden location was changed from the flats to hill country the water source changed as well, from 900 ppm high mineral alkaline well water to neutral 200 ppm spring water.
FloraMicro comes in "Hardwater" with 1% calcium and regular with 5% calcium. The leaves in the new location yellowed up considerably more after the move until the switch was made away from the FloraMicro "hardwater" formula to regular. Hardwater comes in a white jug and regular is in a translucent jug.
This made a large difference all by itself.

I do not use nutrient supplements, the various ratios of the three parts have satisfied my garden's needs since 2002. I do add 3 ml fulvic acid to each 20 liters (4 gallons) of solution. At almost $300/gallon it is good not much is needed. This is not a nutrient, it just enables some aroma with GH3. Fairly odor free budroom without it.

When I first started growing the best advice I got was to get a water report. 576 ppm isn't bad; it is awful. My RO unit putting out 15 to 25 ppm is a clean slate to build a nutrient solution. In addition to coco being a cal-mag hog varieties such as White Widow will breakout in yellow freckles if dropped too low.

I spent the better part of a year trying to make the buds stink. A few supplements functioned very well, the mature buds could be smelled from down the driveway and across the road. It did not help potency and added to the labor so I stopped.
When I went to store bought seeds it became difficult at times to tell the strains apart with aroma levels so low.
The fulvic acid does not add very much, but at least now folks can identify BlackBerry Kush from Lemon Haze with their noses.

I grow as a nonprofit, mostly veterans and a couple autistic's. Bag appeal would be nice but is not the priority.

I used the GH3 for 3year because I was "dialing it in", and it's "cheap". Turns out it's mostly water and sucks. Bland taste and smell anyways for sure, but decent yield. So my local shop has a gh fanboy as an employee. I end up buying their entire lineup. Like everything they had to offer. "Dialed that in" for about 5 more years. Had amazing crops that smelled like heigh. Frustrated that the 3 part, Lucas formula, and the whole lineup do the exact same shit give or take 10% yield maybe. So I read the kiss method using just maxibloom. Same result, and it's dry so no money spent on water. It has CA mg already in it, and is pretty much spot on for Lucas formula alone. Then i meet a much older grower who taught me about feeding the micro biology in the soil and supplementing with sugars and fulvic acid. Huge change! Plants stink and taste amazing, same yields, much less money spent on nutrients.

Got any pics of organic hempy grows?
Less stink may be desirable if making edibles, hash, or just less attention in a subdivision where your neighbors house is only five feet off your property line. Because you changed nutrient lines doesn't mean you've found the HOLY GRAIL.

After trying 4 other different mediums for the reservoir, the clear winner is "sunleaves rocks". This is the only medium i found where the roots continue and grow all the way through without it causing too much capillary action up into the coco. The only downside is that not as much water fits in the reservoir due to the mass of the "rocks".

In hydroton and perlite the roots are sparse and thin out once they hit the reservoir, while plain coco and couch material (poly something or other) didn't allow much of an actual reservoir.

Don't know if this has been mentioned before, nor do i consider myself an expert.

I just use washed gravel from my driveway. I choose pieces around one inch or so. The main reason I started using it was to add weight and make the bucket more stable.

I just re-read my post and see how it looks like an ad for that product... I was thinking of using those $1 river rocks from the dollar store next time (no driveway) to see if the roots like that.

I definitely like the added weight, also.

Didnt take it as an 'ad", SamsonRiddle. Just stating I used free rocks out of my driveway. I've used several different mediums in the bottoms of my Hempy buckets. Hydroton, aquarium gravel, perlite, NAPA floor dry, super course Perlite and driveway rocks. All seem to work well. I just needed the weight on the bottom of the buckets to keep the plants upright.

Here are a couple photos of some of my latest Hempy buds for everyone.

After screwing around with a couple different pots I am back to tempt buckets.
Got a round in my flower room now that is strait coco/ perlite with hydroton on top. Got a round coming up with hydroton bottom pure coco hydroton top. I think this is my fav. Thus far.
Grew some 7ft plus trees this last round in em and daily watering seemed to keep an happy.
Tossing around the idea of setting up a pulse feed for the flower room
