yankee - Thanks for posting this. As an experienced, but out of the game for quite a while, grower, I have been looking for an improvement on the Hempy bucket.

You have shown me the way. Your design solves all of the problems I have been trying to overcome in my small garden.

I appreciate the kind words......I had someone ask me (in a different forum) how I was watering down the 2in PVC tubes....I mix in a 5gal bucket, drop in a pump with a 6ft pc of tube taped to a 3ft 'watering wand'...The end of the wand has a 90° elbow that I basically just hook into those pvc tubes...soon as there is some drainage, I move to the next bucket....
I use Dyna line of nutes..best single use nutrients on the market (IMO)...The only suppliment is a little monster bloom mixed in with my Dyna bloom during flower.....I see so many NEWER growers playing MAD scientist games, mixing a half dozen (or more) addatives, in addition to 2 or 3 part nutes...WAY NOT necessary....a single use Quality nute is all thats is needed....And then just learn how to use it...I use a pH pen but NO TDS meter...I have one but learned DECADES ago how to read my plants...When new growers can throw out their TDS meters, they have arrived!!!!

you read palms also? ..... TDS meters are perfectly fine for both novice and advanced growers, And you don't have to throw out your meter to "arrive".... wtf does that even mean.......

yes...you can use meters..

but you don't have to...i haven't used a ph or tds meter for years now...

once you have found your 'zone' everything just falls into place.

From the first post in this thread:

Doesn't say use coco, growstones, rockwool cubes, or whatever, it's very specific in what to use. Deviate from pearlite/vermiculite and you takes your chances.

I followed the original design and it seems fine. The hardest part is choosing nutes, I settled on Maxibloom Lucus formula K.I.S.S. It has some problems, if you don't do enough runoff each watering you get salts building up in the mix and it eventually needs a flush. Watering from the top gets algae, so I use a funnel poke it in about 1/2" below the top because I hate fungus gnats.

The pearlite/vermiculte is reusable, rinse it and zap it, whilst still moist, in the microwave for a few min to sterilize the mix.
LMAO, ARF....I'm with you....what works, WORKS...dont try to grow in some crushed drywall cause there is a vacant house next door and your trying to say some CHUMP change...3:1 or 4:1 perlite to verm is a standard PROVEN mix (I use 4:1)...same ratio of perlite to coco is ok too...I dont prefer the coco but nice meds can be grown with that mix....ANYTHING else in a hempy, your not growing, YOUR EXPERIMENTING...thats fine but no whining if things crap out on you...It doesnt get any EASIER...dont try to fix something that IS NOT BROKEN....I use the DYNA line of nutez Arf....Great single use formulas...I do suppliment with Monster grow during flower for maximum blooming....Been using Dyna ever since it came out...COMPLETE nute....quick pic for of last last crop..current one is mid flowering...pic was ~10 days before harvest...

Nice plants man!!

Apparently you missed the point...A ph meter is always essential...A tds meter is a LEARNING TOOL for those learning how to feed their plant...its also necessary if you change nutes frequently....once u choose a quality nute, learn how to use it and stick with it...if your paying ANY ATTENTION at all, within a cpl crops you will know your TDS levels per gallon, or 5 gal (whatever u mix in)...it takes some time for new growers to learn how to READ THEIR PLANTS....suggesting they rely on generic feeding charts and a LCD readout forever is misleading...In 38 yrs if hydro growing, ppl ask me what I feel is the MOST important thing...I ALWAYS say, learning to read your plants needs....Relying on a LCD# puts you NEAR the ballpark, but not in it...Your plants are the deciding factor to nutrient levels....Their needs CONSTANTLY change...too many ppl use the overfeed, overfeed, flush method...It works to some degree but is a crutch for not learning how to properly feed...INDEED it takes time, but being dependant on a TDS meter for life is nothing short of lack of enthusiasm...You will never become the grower you would love to be without some work...how many post do you see where ppl say, my leaves have spots or my plants are yellow...Happens to all new growers...YOUR PLANTS will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know...spend time learning what the problems mean and your on your way to losing the TDS binky....Sorry dude for challenging your PALM READING COMMENT....GUESS YOU will always need your binky

This is a Hempy bucket thread. Not a dick swinging contest.
No one gives two squirts if you use a TDS meter or not.
There is no need to be condescending to someone who does.

Howdy Yankee - I love the pics of your progress. I am new to hempy and had some minor questions I was wondering you can assist with.

1. In the Solo cups, how high was your overflow hole drilled into the cup from the bottom? I know the standard for buckets is 2" from bottom but what about your solo cups?

2. I have a seedling that is 3 weeks old and just seems stunted in growth. I don't have a camera now but it's literally about 1.5" tall and only about 3" wide. But it appears healthy and green. It did start with the first set of real leaves curled down and almost touching the 100% Perlite. I diagnosed it as overwatering and dialed back a bit to just i medium watering per day. Anyhow, I listed my details below and wonder if perhaps I can start with like 10% strength nutes. Suggestions?

Setup: 2x4x5 tent. Timber 200W COBS, 2 fast 2 furious auto, temps 70-72, RH 45, 24/0 lighting cycle. Seedlings in Rapid Rooters & 100% Perlite.

Thanks!

Where's the "dick swinging contest"? I replied once to him about tds meters and that's it, there's no "dick swinging contest" going on here, I think your the one who's trying to start drama by even bringing it up?

i know that i'm not the guy you asked but i dont want to leave you hanging so....
im no expert but i think you still might be over watering but you def should be feeding your plant nutes with every water. some people do full strength feeding from the start in these things.
feed that plant man!
she's got roots?
she's in a hydro system?
feed that plant!

Anyone here currently running a Hempy of any kind using Jacks Pro/Calnit? I have a few questions.

I haven't used Jack's Pro, but I have read a lot of good things about it. So I would ALSO like to hear anybody's thoughts about Jack's Pro with Hempy. OR Starke, try it and let us know!

I can't imagine any reason they wouldn't work together. I use GH stuff, works fine. I do dosage by a thread called ==The Recipe==. <- There's a link.

Thanks Jelly. I'm running it now in my current grow in week six of flower and running into some issues that I documented in my grow diary update today (in signature).
