Small office trash cans come in 2 1/2 and three gallon sizes.
The 3 1/2 gallon cans Im using I found at Kmart for somewhere in the $3.00 each range and they have lasted for years.
You can find small bathroom trash containers in the one-two gallon range at most bed and bath stores.

Ive got a few smaller plants going in a tent that are in plain round 1 gallon food containers. Got them free from a local seafood market that gets sea scallops packed in them.

Home Depot or similar in their indoor garbage can section. Lots of irregular sized cans that would suffice. Also take a look at their bucket selection in the paint section of the store.

I'm currently using the 2gallon white paint can bucket and I feel it is too large for my 315CMH's output. I'm going to experiment with 1 and 1.5gal containers and see if the consumption of water and nutrients increases.

Some shots of my latest Hempy plants. Harvested around 75 days after a 7 day flush.

Hither Creek Kush.
Smells of hash, citrus/grapefruit/pineapple with that earthy Kush background. Smokes like incense and tastes a bit like sour citrus on the exhale.

This plant is the result of a seed I found on grow room floor. Around 75 days after a one week flush. Possibly Grindhouse Prophet x SFV OG. She is a bushy girl but trimmed up nicely with some rock hard buds. Smells nondescript floral with a strong hashy taste.

Does anyone know where to find 1 or 2 gallon containers without drainage holes online?

I've been growing Hempy SOG out of 2 liters for years but now that I am legal I am wanting to opt for actual nursery pots but it has been a hell of a lot harder to find pots online without drainage holes...

If you have a Trader Joe's nearby, they give away the 8-12l rose pots their flowers come in. No holes, and black. They usually have a bunch after big flower holidays, and Mother's Day is a bonanza!

Put all my winter mother plants into the flower room a couple days ago. I got a lot of cuttings off of them that are all going outside in a couple weeks.

Sandstorm
P.C.K.
Rosebud
SFV X DMT X Prophet
SFV x DMT x Diablo x DMT
The more mature little one gallon Hempies are testers of a few crosses I'm playing with.

Sounds good Capt!

I want to try and pull a Guerilla grow this year and I was wondering if you use Hempy's outside?, what do you use for the medium?

I was thinking Hempy's would be the best because I may not be able to get to the plant all the time and the reserve nutes would be key. Then I was thinking because I use coco it may not be the best medium to use because I prob won't be able to feed everyday.

Thanks!

Planting them right in the ground and in some big containers with soil, Bobbo. Putting up some fencing and digging holes today.
This is the first year that my outdoor grow is actually legal so I cant call it a guerilla grow.
No more crawling around in the swamps. I can do it right in my back yard and check em' whenever I want. :)

Bobbo, this plant was kinda grown hempy style. Bottom of that bucket was loaded with holes. See the hole on the left of the plant filled with water? I took some sticks and stuck them down in the hole facing up. Set the bucket down in about half inch above the water line. I would go every other day and water. If the hole wasn't filled with water, when I watered the run-off would go into the hole and stay there(clay soil).

Days I couldn't make it, that set-up proved useful. The roots grew down out of the bucket and into the water. I tried to set the bucket directly into the hole when it was full of water, but that was a no-go. Leaves started yellowing and dying, the plant was suffocating. I wanted to try with a wick form the bucket down into the hole, but never ended up doing it.

Thanks!

Return to hempy..

Return to hempy..

Geeze, this thread long thread...have not checked in for a while....the reason for this, is because I have just converted to a 6 bucket hempy set up..
Started hydro growing in 1981, so got some years under my belt...drip sys, rockwool, ebbnflow, wick, dwc and it all evolved into what I call a SWC (shallow water culture) same principle as dwc but with 1 inch of water on a flooded floor res....
Anyways, I am going back to what I consider an improved hempy..improved with an airstone in each...when those roots bottom out they REALLY TAKE OFF....after 36+ years, just getting tired of chillers, circulation pumps, cleaning systems, extra addatives....this system IS NOT JUST FOR BEGINNERS...Its for anyone who wants a quality crop for little expense and far less work...putting together a gow journal for this 1st hempy...running 3 strains in it...White Widow Extrm, cheese Candy and Incredible Bulk (2 of each)...cpl pics since plugging in rooted cuttings today...space is right at 20sqft.(5ftx4ft)

Holy shit what a thread! After five nights of reading I have finally finished it all. Thanks Jellyfish for recommending I look at Hempys for my grow situation. You are right and I will be doing traditional perlite/vermiculite Hempys using Maxibloom KISS for nutes for my grow beginning in July. Thanks to everyone who posted here over the years with great info and experience. Sorry that a lot of the pics are no longer available for the older posts. Bet they were killer. Thanks again everyone and Jellyfish for pointing me here.

If it wasn’t for hempy I am 100% sure I would have given up on coco.

2.5 gallon bucket 9 X 9
2 inches of large perlite for the reservoir
Five inches of 60/40 coco/perlite
1 inch sand & 1 flat rock to water on

GH 3 part
Cali-magic
Silica blast
RO water
Flooded the top of the pot and gauged the runoff to 25 to 30% checked the runoff for ph and ppm

Variable wattage ballast that mostly saw 450W
4X4 Apollo tent

This was a fem seed start in Rock Wool of UK Cheese (freebie)

LST and topped twice
