1. Testing is critical. Testing leads to diagnoses, as well as tracking the spread as well as providing data for analysis. I just read an interview of an infection disease specialist who’s been involved in viral research in China. One of the things he mentioned was that we can expect more of these types of pandemics, and he suggested that they could occur with greater frequency. He also suggested that we learn from this pandemic, to be better prepared for the next one. That comes from having lots of data.
2. Treatment. Stating that there is no treatment simply shows ignorance. Treatment includes providing IV fluids, proper nutrition, anti viral drugs, and medications to maintain blood pressures and to maintain certain electrolytes. Treatment may also include dialysis or ultra filtration modalities to clean and filter blood and protect the kidneys. Look at Germany’s statistics. Over 800 confirmed infections and zero deaths to date. I suspect they are doing something correct. While there may not be a vaccine or a “cure”, we know how to treat viral infections with SOME success.
3. I will certainly continue to “whine” about any government official that is blatantly corrupt and grossly incompetent. I believe it is both a patriotic duty as well as well as morally correct behavior.
