Red' Greenery's 150 HPS Cab

G

Guest

Hey guys, here's a quick day 57 update on my girls.

I watered the Dutch Treat pheno with plain water today. It's taking up water slowly compared to the other plant and all the calyxes are going brown. The trichs are mostly cloudy and really starting get furry. I promise some closeups soon.

The Shiskaberry pheno is showing now signs of slowing down. The trichs are all clear. It needs water every 2-3 days and seems to be hungy so I'm feeding it with 800 ppm Sensi Bloom. The buds just crowned in the last couple of days and are getting bulky.

I'm having a bit of trouble containing all 6 23w CFLs in my box. The Y splitters and bulb size don't mix well with the box size. I think the best I can do is maybe 1x42 Watt bulb w/ 4x23w bulbs for the entire cab. I'm thinking about investing in an HPS from now on. Can anybody here recommend E-conolight?

There is a current shot

I was mistasken when I stated that. I can fit 4x42 watt CFL' and perhaps 2x26 watt CFLs in the light attic at once. It will get mighty toasty up there though. I don't think the HPS will be much cooler.

For the math : 220 watts CFL max for a space that is 8640(16x15x36) cubic inches(or around 4.9 cubic ft). I don't intend to use all the space for that low of wattage. If need be I could lessen the area of the cab by raising a shelf to make my chamber 7200(16x15x30) cubic inches(or around 4.0 cubic ft). Last time I checked decent wattage needed for flowering is around 50 watts/1 cubic ft of sp ace. The larger are would have 46 watts/sq ft. the smaller space would have 55 watts/sq ft.

Now a few questions -

Is my lighting capable of supporting two plants through flowering?
Should I stick with the 220 watt CFLs or go the 150 watt to HPS for my grow space?

Sorry if my math is wrong, I did this a bit hastily.

Looking very nice there Red! I'm very, very impressed! I hope I can get half as much as you're getting out of your cab!

Hey Budless - we'll get fixed up and in the game too!!!

I'm running 75 w/sqft HPS with 2 sqft and have run 100 w/sqft CFL in the rubbermaids no problem. I'd say you can go with a 150 or 4 x 46 CFL no problems.

I think your growbox is an awkward size. I find an 8" pot takes up a sqft with a screen. You won't get two 8" pots in your box. It's more suited for a single plant with a screen. A 2 plant DWC would work well too!

I'd hang onto as much height as you can. I have 40" of my cab and my girls are using most of it. There's no room to make a second chamber and all I could make is a little mother chamber anyway.

got some good news and bad news..well not really bad for me.

good news is i learned a ton on this grow. ill be building my new cab in the next 2 weeks or so..gonna go hydro and soil if i can fit all them in. im ordering this.. http://www.kggardensupply.com/killer-green-hydroponics-plant-system-p-763.html cuz im just too lazy to do a DIY bubbler heh..plus itll come with everything i need.

because i need the space i had to harvest early...which is ok as ive been givin them nothing but water for the last 1 1/2 weeks..so its like a mini flush. smoke might be a little harsher but just means i wont have "moochers" over. smaller plant was real frosty but only 1 or 2 desent buds..prolly be used more for friends and canna butter. the bigger one was dieing fast, couldnt fix the ph probs, and was showing tons of Def. but she had some NICE big buds..the biggest was the size of my fist. will be quite a bit of good nugs.

the bad news is my "dealer" is no more...so i have to make the cab bigger to supply myself..like i said bad news but not for me, except i wont have any for a bit while my new plants grow in. no biggie. ill post pics and weights when its dry.

i know itll be small and it was cut early but i wanted to get something out of it before it died. that and some peeps found out about what i was doing as the r2d2 unit wasnt vry stealth.

ill keep you all posted on my future ventures for sure..and thanks red for all your help on my bad first grow hehe...atleast my first harvest

Hi Red sweetie, you serve coffee and a nice warm fire in this thread too, or do I have to pop into the "lodge"? I'll take mine with cream. :yummy:

Your plants look great, love that shiskaberry, I have heard good things about it.

Hey pieceofmyheart - wanna try a shot of Bailey's in your coffee? Mmmm.... Bailey's...

I've noticed that the Lodge moves around now, just depends on who's yapping with who at the time. LOL

The Shiskaberry x Dutch Treat cross has been a wonderful strain to learn to grow with. I've been getting both pheno's so it's like running two strains at once. The Shiskaberry dominant pheno is my preferred med's. It's very potent and definately kills pain and works wonders for migraines.

I'm going to get some new beans for the fall grow. Sugabear is recommending a Blue Burmese that looks like a real beauty to grow.

Hey Darren - you're gonna learn ton's on the first couple of grows. Actually I'm learning all the time. That's why I like answering questions and doing some research for anyone that asks.

Sorry Darren, I mis-read that you harvested. A 1-1/2 week flush should pull most of the chem buildup. It takes a couple of grows to get dialed in

BTW, dry some fan leaves and a bit of popcorn fluff for the moochers. Let them cough thier guts out and they'll think you can't grow shit. LOL

how "dry" should it be berore cure? like totally dry or 90% dry? i figured a week in the tub with no light would dry it out then cure it for a month or 2. when should i weigh it to determine how much i pulled? before or after the cure??

I hang my buds in my drying box until they feel dry and light. This usually takes 5 -7 days. They are only dry on the outside at this point. I put them in a paper bag for a week inside the drying box. The buds can dry at a slower rate and the paper bag keeps the humidity down.

I weigh the buds and put them in a jar. Every day I open up the jar up and air it out for 1/2 hour or so. I check the buds and if they get wet and moist, they go back into the drying box for a few days. If you jar them too early, they get all wet and sweaty.

ok so i tried out my stuff...most of it was still damp except the small stuff on the bottom of the tub....so i decided to give it a taste. all i know is i may not have got dialed in yet and need to improve on yeild per plant but this stuff is AWSOME. very potent. kinda gives me an uppy feeling. after i smoked i cleaned out my car and started work on my grow box (and if anyone knows how to make the link in my sig an actual link id really appriciate it)

Woohoo!!! Good work Darren!! There isn't anything better than smoking your own bud. It will improve alot as it cures too!

I chopped my first girl this morning. This is the plant that is Dutch Treat dominant. Man this thing smells wonderful with a distinct berry smell. I'm sure the molasses and a bit of maple syrup has brought out the bouquet.

Here's a nice closeup. See the fall colours in the fan leaves when all the nutes are sucked out of them.

Here's the cola's all cut off with the big fan leaves trimmed. I left all the sugar leaves on the buds. I like to trim these off when the buds are dried and ready for the jar. It's way easier and not a sticky mess to handle.

Mmmmm.....

Here's my harvest ready for the drying box.

I managed to save a few fan leaves and I plan to reveg this girl.

And the show goes on...

Here's my other girl that is Shiskaberry dominant at day 65. Just checked the trichs and they are all cloudy. I flushed 8 litres of water through the pot and watered with 1 tbsp molasses in a 4 l container and ran that through. I think this final flush with a sugar solution is the same thing as these final flush products. From what I've read, the sugar water is a harmless additive since the bacteria in the soil will eat it up. The damn stuff ferments and grows snot balls of bacteria if premixed and left for a week so it's not going to hang around in the soil.

I know the peat and vermiculite in the soil-less mix hold nutes, especially the vermiculite. The sugars will move in and push the nutes out of the soil where the plants can take them up easily. The the bacteria in the soil will munch away on the nutes too. Also having some ppm in the water is less stressfull on the plant.

I prepared my harvested Dutchy for reveg by trimming back the rootball and repotting into about a 4" pot with a little bit of new soil. I've revegged before keeping the plant in the large pot and it makes watering really touchy since the pot is humungous and there are only a few whispy leaves. It didn't take much to hack the rootball down to fit the small pot with a butcher knife.

I'm trying out something new. This revegging plant is going back into the flowering box until the other plant finishes. I haven't set up a veg box and I don't think it will hurt the plant much to stay under 12/12 a bit longer.

I gave it a drink of 5-1-1 fish emulsions mixed 1/2 strength.

Nice buddage there Red, and Darren too, Congrats on a job well done.

Those buds on the shiskaberry look great, I'd love to grow something that turns out like that. Hopefully these Hindu Kush Skunk ans Grapefruit seedlings I have going will give me a nice yield in a few months.

i liked how you pointed out the c=ololrs in the leaves as thats the exact same thing my plant was doing...turnign kinda purpley. guess i know i did somehting right :) smoke on my friend smoke on.. :joint:

Hey Darren - If you got some purple colours maybe it has some blueberry or something purple in it's genes. Does it have a berry or fruity flavour? It sounds like flushed it enough to get the chems out.

Speaking of chems. I tried a few popcorn buds when the plant was growing with the Shultz salt based nutes and they were horribly chemmy. I tried a few more closer to harvest and they were really good. It seems that the AN Sensi Bloom doesn't have as much chemmy stuff in it so there's no buildup. I can't wait to try my fully cured product.

Hey Jerry, I didn't pick up on the wordplay either. Thanks for popping in. I hope your Hindu Kush and Grapefruit turn out great. Those are awesome strains to grow!

it might have some blueberry. i know the bagseed it came form had purple on the bud. ive got to cure it as it has a "homegrown" smell to it. doesnt smell the same to me but then again ive never really harvested before hehe
