New extraction technique? Rosin tech?

Oh good, it wasen't just me with the PTFE.

Cool in the fridge or freezer to ease handling.

With some rosin, I do the BHO fold and tear re: fold the material onto itself and snap apart. Hand warming one side usually controls direction. Probably not wise with PTFE.

Sometimes just a finger wrapped in parchment or a gnob of rosin to rub it up easy peasy.

I highly recommend a dial but it is easy to press by time/pressure rather than how the oil floweth. It will help greatly with consistency, accurate record keeping and prevent overpressing.

I wouldn't aim for yield or colour goals without an established benchmark, and even then variations in flower quality make that a range more than static number. Some material just makes black tar.

those weird plasticy sheets sucked balls, couldn't collect off them at all

One bloody arm was already thicker than the other before this press came along, now I'm worried I'll break my dick off one overly enthusiastic sin ridden night.

Mark that under "Thoughts from the Press" in the ol' diary.

I been using walmart brand parchment paper, It's thicker and better then the reynolds brand and the pick n blade is the tool of choice for collection of oily rosin. Makes collecting easier for sure.

I do pre presses using a 2"x2" press to pre press patties, I squish at 220f for 20 seconds and I get nice color and flavor to my rosins. I use a pneumatic press, which cost me $850.00 total investment. The pneumatic press was $700.00 and the compressor was an additional $150.00, Considering people are paying roughly $500 for a manual press with plates, I am pretty happy and feel like I got my money worth from it.

I would be doing a second press most likely you are leaving alot behind. I press for 30 to 45 seconds depending on how it flows. I pressed an ounce of shake that I had for a couple months and got 15 %. My dispensary guy only gets 10 % from good norcal outdoor. I get nice terps and a good yeild, a little dark though.850 for pneumatic is a pretty decent deal .

Where are you guys getting the pre presses? I see them for a couple hundred dollars. That's crazy to me. I hate the way anything weed related in 10 x more expensive than it should be.

I think he means the mold, itself rather that the press.

I'm also looking for the right tool for this job. I have used everything from screw type hash presses (worked well but a PITA) to garlic presses to potato ricers to hamburger patty makers to stacks of quarters in drain pipes. LOL

My current platens are 3" diameter round so I start with about a 1" round puck about 1/4" think (about 2 grams of buds/flowers).

I use a little c clamp with a cap from a Starbucks bottle and a couple washers. Ghetto fabulous. I do have a Lil hash press but I don't think it would work

I made 5x5 and then 4inch circle plates, I like the circle plates better and use a 3inch pvc pipe for the mold, press about half oz at a time.

Flowers I get 18-25%on average. Haven't pressed much hash but just picked up some boldt bags for full spectrum hash to turn to rosin. Hash seems to turn out the most stable, glue is always a pain in the ass to collect extra soupy loaded with terps

I paid 100CAD for a 2"x4" prepress from Timewizard Greyfox on IG. Works very well and I imagine he could make one to spec.

I got my 2x2" pre press from 710 snob for 75.99, I use a IRWIN quick grip clamp to press the pucks. My returns are 20-25% so even if I can get more with a longer press, It's not worth it because it would darken the product from longer exposure to heat and reduce the quality.

I use my own material which makes a huge difference. I have tried vac sealed packs and they don't press out nearly as productively.

hi gents, long time ic'er, first time rosin'r lol..

I'm looking to get back into the concentrate game but with my state laws not being too friendly the closed loop is just gathering dust... want to probobly sell it soon...

But i want a rosin press ASAP, but got a few questions first..

Manual vs. Pneumatic: how feasible is pressing a decent amount of rosin on a manual press without it being a total pain in the ass?

And if i go with one of the cheaper <1000 pneumatic presses,

how loud is the compressor needing to run it?

could it be done indoors without pissing off the neighbors, say anytime of the night? cause that could be a possible deal breaker and need to go manual..

it seems like i would be looking at a chinese made pneumatic press for that price, is there a minimum tonage i need for the press? or anything to look/out for...

any suggestions on pneumatic units in the ~$1000-2000 price range? or if a manual unit in the $500 range is a better bet, that will make just as much with minimal effort and noise, preferably units with good tract records and reliability

and whats the benefit of the super high end USA made presses on instagram like medisunn and MASH, ect.. those are going like $3500+, is the higher quality worth the drastic price difference?

any help on this is really appreciated, sometimes its a minefield wading through all the crazy high mark ups on cut rate crap in this industry... :thank you: :tiphat:

Manuals suck. I had to modify mine to make it usable. I would buy your plates pid and heaters and buy a hydraulic press if you are worried about the noise of a air compressor, because yes an air compressor is loud. To loud to run in an apartment or if you have people trying to sleep.

I made a quick video just now and uploaded it to youtube, to show the 25% return on a 20 second press, The quality is superb with this method. If you use good starting material the yields will be 20% or better without fail.

The video is a little dark so I am also attaching pictures of the rosin pressed in the video. One before and one after the scrape! 1/2 gram from 2 gram press an ideal 25% in 20 seconds and look at that color. Terps intact and flavor as full as can be.

thanks for pointing me in the right direction, so it looks like hydraulic press is the way to go as far as my situation, are the hydraulic presses comparable to the pneumatic in terms of pressure applied without being too difficult?

also im looking at the best value vacs, 5 ton hydraulic press for $1300 or 12 ton for $1600, they come with dual heated 5x5 plates, which one would you guys recommend or a different brand perhaps?

Your better off buying the heat plates and your own manual press you will save quite a few bucks in the process, and hydraulic presses can put as much or more force then pneumatic, hell heavy equipment runs off hydraulics and they lift steel beams that weight many tons lol, so yeah hydraulics can easily put down more force then pneumatic.
