New extraction technique? Rosin tech?

I am making a spreadsheet of variables in order to fine tune my extraction process.

I have:

Date
Time
Air Temp
Air RH
1 2 or 3rd press
Kief, bud, or hash
Strain
Bud RH
Bag Mesh
Plate Temp
Pressure
Packet Dimension
Time Interval
Input wt
Output wt
Color
Taste/smell
Consistency
and NOTES

Can anyone add other variables?

Thanks to all who have contributed.

What kind of Parchment are you guys using?.. I got some Generic styff that works great. I got some other more expensive stuff that's used at bakery's that is crap. Not sure what the difference is but I cant get any Rosin to come off the bakery paper.

sams club has huge rolls for like 4 bux

Kirkland from Costco, also use the Reynolds sheets, and regular Reynolds can't see much difference the sheets are nice because they don't roll up on you.

I'm curious how folks on IG are getting their rosin to look almost white and dry, like high end bho crumble or wax. Are they putting the rosin in food dehydrator? Just curious

Budder, you mean?

It seems like there are more pressing flower here, as opposed to hash on IG.

Much of what is posted there is fresh frozen freeze dried or sift. Ghost rosin is made from early pickings before trichomes cloud up, as I recall, but few are making it.

ive been watching it too, people just like to post the yields of hash being pressed, it does flow like crazy. :woohoo:

there are many different consistencies of rosin people are playing with, fresh pressed butter, butter because of high moisture and low temp pressing. you will find this to be almost crumble as the moisture evaps out, and it sticks to the parchment, having to really scrape. take that a step further blend it really well, toss it in a vac oven and you get cookie/coin rosin. lots of low temp early harvest headies being pressed for the same things
people are also pulling and blending terps in as well, lots of new ideas coming out

Super easy. All you do is have good starting material that's sitting between 60-70% RH and press it under 190F. That keeps all the terpenes. The more terpenes, the faster it budders. I can literally press so low I have budder straight from the press, like a ring of it formed up around the bud.

I am pressing kief at 190* that is really dry, it is shatter in the fridge, as soon as it is in the air at room temps it starts to budder...

if you dont fridge or freeze it, that super fast buddering doesnt happen. I have had that from frozen rosin too, instant buddering when removed.

If I put in my Rosin the the Refer it will budder?. Right now its the consistency of creamy Peanut Butter. How can I get it harder without heat.

I find well cured budders less often.

No cure and barely dried extracts wax and lipids hehe. I had to try.

Some first experiment notes:

I have some seeded god's gift. I tore it all up to get the seeds out (mistake one)

I had a pre press and made some "Candy bars". 2.5x4 inch maybe 1/4 inch thick. Dropped those into 120u mesh bags.

Put it in between PTFE sheets. Heated my plates to 220. (mistake 2?) and pressed in my 20 ton stand up HF press. This was over designed in order to put less overall stress on the Press and Jack. I figure using it at 30% pressure would be easier on the whole frame and jack.

While i Don't have a pressure gauge on it (mistake 3?). I pressed until my old arms found it difficult to press any harder.

I got a goop that was greenish black. About 1.6 g off of a 14 g bar. Sticks to the PTFE paper like all hell. I got some on a silicone pad, which in a few days, came off it pretty easily.

Therefore:

Goal: amber color and a 20% yield.

Result: Black with 10% yield.

Next action:

Press out seeds, do not turn buds into rolling joint consistency. Try to keep buds intact. Will try gentle pressing from bottom of buds to take out seeds and leave something pressable.

Try lowering temps until yellow is achieved? 1st test:200 2nd test:180 until color is desired.

Figure out how to drop a pressure gauge into the side of jack for more accurate readings.
OR keep doing it by feel.

Figure out how the hell to get this sticky shit off of a PTFE sheet. No Stick Teflon my ass!

Will try to use silicone pads next. But do not know about pressure changes in dealing with a squishy sheet.

Any and all tips or helpful info is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your reading time.

Try parchment paper works like a charm.

Oh good, it wasen't just me with the PTFE.

Cool in the fridge or freezer to ease handling.

With some rosin, I do the BHO fold and tear re: fold the material onto itself and snap apart. Hand warming one side usually controls direction. Probably not wise with PTFE.

Sometimes just a finger wrapped in parchment or a gnob of rosin to rub it up easy peasy.

I highly recommend a dial but it is easy to press by time/pressure rather than how the oil floweth. It will help greatly with consistency, accurate record keeping and prevent overpressing.

I wouldn't aim for yield or colour goals without an established benchmark, and even then variations in flower quality make that a range more than static number. Some material just makes black tar.
