Great thread and they look wonderful, I think. I have had plants that the pistils have shriveled up one me and I could always trace it back to some type of stress: I had my lights to low and it got too hot. I went on vacation and they got too dry, they bounced back but I had those dead pistils.
Also it seems that it kinda depends on the strain, some seem heartier than others and can take more stress than others.

Who is that sexy guy in your avatar???....hot, hot, hot!!!!

Well i was stressing them a bit by manhandling them via LST. I figure if i bend the stems really hard its maybe "medium stress training" aka partial supercropping, can only strengthen the stems... also i think it was also the fact that they were just beginning to flower, and what i thought were dried out pistils were in fact the tiny "transition" leaves that sprout out *just* as they are converting over to flower... and that pic is of kurt cobain!! :)

anybody know how i can figure out how much CFM i can pass through my 1" thickness of carbon? im getting granulated carbon off ebay (that 5-gal pail guy) so it should be denser than the pellet carbon... maybe i should make the frames thinner/ use thinner scrubber panels>?????????????????????? lil help!!!!!!!!! ;)

(pic is of foam pad for sound absorption.)

yet more pics! :)

yet more pics! :)

Took a ton more pics today, here are some of the better closeups, etc.. ;)

this is the K-train showing some of the extreme LST-ing I did to it... its actually a good deal lower than both lifesavers now! (I expect it to stretch in flower quite a bit...)

random LS flower (day 17):

this is a FREAK LEAF I found... what on earth could cause this?!

Ktrain flower 1:

ktrain flower2:

ktrain flower3:

and here is another possible carbon scrubber enhancement... this results in roughly 630sq.in. of filter surface area, or about twelve 8" vents....

Haha, that's pretty badass. You make me look like a fool when trying to design my grow box. You're using nice computer modeling software and I'm like "Hmm... what else can I duct tape on that would help improve this thing?"

Badass setup and it's(and you are) an inspiration to us all.

Couldn't you have easily have gone with just a single 400 Watt HPS in that cab insted of two? Just curious why you went with two over a single in the small area.

Man, nice bud development on all your girls! The K-Trains look like they're growing 70's afros!

That racing stripe leaf is strange sure enough, haven't seen something like this - such a clear difference between leaf halves!

budless,   I already had two lights, from a previous "grow ROOOM" and i wanted to have superintense light for BIG YIELD! So I had both lights, and i was originally was only going to use one, but I tried one light in the middle, and didnt like what it did to my headroom. So, I decided to try side-lighting by putting the light in one of the upper corners, but the other side was sitting there empty. Hey, ive got two damn lights, cant use the other one in another room/cab (no space), so i designed the ventillation around the idea of both lights running. The stanley blower pushes over 2000CFM, and i figured that with a massive intake in a cool room (i leave window open) pulling air off cold window glass, would be enough to cool the lights! The gamble worked, i can keep inside temps in the mid-70s in there even with unshaded lights. i can actually keep it in the mid-50s with the outside room cool enough! But of course I dont want that... The problem I am anticipating is that as the plants grow up, i will end up burning the top buds without air-cooled shades. So I will add that feature after i get the carbon sorted out. I ordered the carbon over the weekend, and by the time it gets here, i should have the HUGE scrubber ready to go! With the lack of air restriction from such a huge one, i am HOPING to be able to run the blower on LOW, which is the most-stealth setting. the pump for the DWC is FAR louder than the blower running on low,,, so im going to mount it inside a foam-filled box also. At that point, i will be listening to the quiet hum of the interior circulation fan and the subtle buzz of the ballasts! I am also going to eliminate the veg box exhaust fan, which is the loudest thing after the DWC pump... the veg box will be cooled by a 4" darkroom vent between the veg chamber and flower box, with another (possibly pair) of 4" vents in the floor of vegbox for passive intakes! Plans for the next two weeks i reckon... after that it will be as stealth as it possibly can.... :bat: :chin:

Just for my own recordkeeping, ive got six more clones into flower, plus a malawi/WR/Chemo (both second day of flower actually) and today i watered the DARK LIFESAVER (somehow seems like a starwars reference to me!!) with THREE tsp of floranova BLOOM,,, hope its not too much. i have zero tips burn, perfect looking plants at 2tsp, and they seem to be asking for more nutes, even this dark one is getting lighter.... nobody else needed water today, but the light lifesaver will also get three as she appears to be a HUGE nuteeater!! :)

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! even with my blower set to HIGH, the scrubber combined with the silencer box section stuffed with foam (creating a 90deg turn) is almost totally silent. a very soft "hummmm" from across the room. even if you were standing right in front of the box, as long as the TV was on, you would never know it was running. I cant wait to try it on LOW, to see how quiet it "REALLY" is!! :) (Blower speed switch is inside, with the blower (duh) and the lights are out.... i will soon set it to run only at night since the low noise is now inaudible from outside the door (and thats on high!!)

I hope i can keep the temps down running it on low or even medium,,, i want this thing to be as quiet as possible, and i can always manage ambients to keep the temps in line inside!!! and there is of course absolutely no smell coming from the cab... ;)

the next thing i am going to do is eliminate the seperate vegbox fan... actually, i dont want to be running the main blower with the lights off too much... with the intake over by the window, im afraid it will lower the temps too much! so maybe i should just ... hmmmmm..... i could make a small seperate scrubber and keep the existing fan..... or maybe use a PC type fan which might be quieter. i have a bit of material left over for a small scrubber, but not any more screen. wait i do have a little screen left...... i think that is what i will have to do! i will mount it inside in the back corner of the box... or something....... there is a little room behind it but its getting a little crowded these days!

im sorry i didnt take pics of the process of finishing the scrubber. i took some pics of the inner sleeve/screen, but the camera batt is dead so that will have to wait.

its basically the usual DIY design... only difference is i scaled mine up... its about 40" long or so, and 9" in outside diameter. pretty basic stuff. it took close to 23-24lbs of carbon to fill it (a full 5-gal pail--ebay), i only have a little left (pail supposed to hold 25lbs) so thats how i figure 23-24lbs... ;)

Well I just wanted to say i've learned quite abit from this thread.
And I feel pretty confident now when it's comes to sound issues after I saw all the troubleshooting you did. You seemed pretty determined to make the best of that blower, and if a trip to home depot is sufficient then screw spending more.

I also want to see those new pix of ur scrubber and I'm curiously awaiting ur review on the effectiveness of it.

Until then keep growing the etheogen's my friend. nice work

thanks! the scrubber appears to be operating flawlessly. no odor is detectable outside the box (once i close it!). the problem I now have is the HUMM from the two 400w ballasts! (i didnt hear them last night under initial testing because the lights were off)

im probably going to put them into a steel box lined with steel wool (so there is no added fire risk--even tho i have seen steel wool "burn" before) and possibly a pair of small ventillation fans to keep them cool. the fans need to be basically silent, and small PC fans would work. need to scare up a couple of them. the vegbox fan is almost as loud as the ballasts. my goal was to run the box at night with the door closed and not have it audible from outside the room *at all*... ive already achieved that, but now ive gotten to the point where i want it SILENT or nearly so...

i will also have to do something about the vegbox fan, which is right now mounted hard to the back of the box. once i figure out a soft mount for it, im sure it will get quieter. the interior circulation fan is also a problem, uneccesarily BIG, LOUD, and BLACK. its shading one of the SOGCLONES, in fact, so i need to do something about that soonish...

i just watered the light lifesaver with 2.5tsp of floranova bloom,,, i used 3tsp on the dark one and it isnt looking all that hot... not bad, just not perfect looking like ive gotten used to! also the flowers arent getting big fast enough... :moon: :yummy: :pointlaug  :joint:
