walmart has cut-to-fit generic filter elements that have a carbon layer. i just peeled the carbon off the filter element, and voila!! I just took some new pics... ill upload in a lil while... :)

more pics...

I cut out the "floor" of the flowerbox on the left side to make room for my 6-gal DWC... only trouble there is the clone i used turns out to be from a MALE plant! I think my K-train is a male too!! BUT!! that is a good thing because i want to MAKE SEEDS, and some lifesaver+k-train and lifesaver+lifesaver sounds like some interesting combinations. Also a SSH/Herijuana appears to be male... So I will make a nice variety of seeds this round!! :) (Two of the NICEST lifesavers are indeed FEMALE, and ive taken many many clones from these females (FOR SOG!)

Here is the floor cut out of the flowerbox, creating the "WELL."

here are the soil plants:

and my MALE clone i have to replace with a female....

nice man, you can keep the male if you want seeds but i would put him in a container too small so he doesnt take up space. if a female's in that dwc bucket you could expect a good amount from her. have you decided to veg teh clone's longer? i cant see them using much of that soil room another week or two would have done wonder's. good luck.

yeah, i should veg them longer,,, but i didnt. mostly because i dont have extra veg-room space. That male in the DWC will definitely be replaced. Tomorrow morning! Im going to flower it (the FEMME replacement) while its rooting, too. i have a bunch more clones for more SOGGNESS which i will veg a lot longer. I should gain some space when i collect pollen and kill my males..... (EDIT: screw it! I took that tub out of the cab and under a light ... ima veg it another week for YIELD!! (i hate to waste space! :))).....:bat:

good decision, you i can understand how much room that big ass container would take up in a veg box. but your doing your self a yielding favor. i'll be around.

Re-did my veg box...

Re-did my veg box...

last night i had to shut down the vegbox (moving plants out and under seperate light) due to light leaks into the "well" next door, which as we all know is now open to the flowerbox. So anyway i cut off the light leaks and re-did the lighting, and also got the wiring off the floor!

this shows the vent holes in the floor (i dont really like this solution, but...):

and here is more of an "up" angle...

those small clones are just recently rooted, and im about to LST all those tall plants in the back.. :bat: :joint:

By the way, the cabinet is now running at its FULL power of 1000w! ive got my big STANLEY BLOWER running on high, and the interior fan also on high, ambients are low enough, and temps seem OK! :)

Great idea, I had a simular box back in da day. Fell off the truck when I moved. I miss it dearly. You just inspired me to rebuild. Good growin to ya!

What does that blower sound like? I like to keep my girlies in my bed room and loud noises keep me up. I tried a blower at first but later had to switch to a Comair Rotron ( Big computer fan) to keep the sound down. It took a while but I finally go it down to a low hummmmm.

This is my "silencer":

believe it or not, this ELIMINATES the "whoosh" of air (sound) from the exhaust. With only the foam around the output like that, i can hear the ballast/s over the fan noise.... (it basically REALLY silences it!)

This is the crappy carbon filter i have over the output, which actually increases the noise by making it a low-bass thrumming sound (subtle but noticeable. I need to fix this carbon filter issue, mostly because i cannot afford to have ANY smell escape the cab!!

The whole thing shuts down at night so i dont hear a thing!! ;)

Damn good idea, how much herb you have to smoke to come up with that? Did you just wrap the foam around the blower, or is there a science to it? I tried something simular but it didnt work. I think most of my problem came from the vibration of the blower against the box. The box amplified the sound like a speaker. I tried rubber around the blower mounts but that failed too. I got 4 rotrons for 12 bucks so i used one, but the blower was better for my temps by a few degrees.

The blower itself hangs from thin bungie cords inside the box, and where it meets the output, it is held in place by thick closed-cell foam and then the whole thing is sealed in place with thick aluminum duct tape (REAL duct tape, designed for HVAC use, not the normal "duck tape" that gums up and falls off), which is also a flexible mounting more or less. I also have foam stuffed behind the blower inside the box:

In that last pic/drawing, you can see the blower outputs into a larger "box" which is open on one end. The blower output is only about 3.5x7", whereas the box is about 16x8... so i filled the extra space with foam. i was shocked to find out that this REALLY works for sound control! :yoinks: :woohoo: :dueling: :bat:

I plan to use my old desighn for my next grow box, but I hope you dont mind if I "bite" your output desighn. Sound proofing has always been my major problem. I think you may have just solved it for me. Thanx for this thread! K+

no problem!! i got the idea from automotive straight-thru "performance" mufflers, and when i tried it out it immediately made a huge difference! they sell HVAC silencers which are basically the same idea. :joint:

thanks!!!! i worked on killing more light leaks between the veg chamber and the "well" area, mostly where the two lower doors meet. nothing exciting but nevertheless incredibly important!! :joint:

pics!

Full-length pic of the cabinet with details noted:

The Canopy!! JUST starting to bud, and its a good thing i took out my two males because im rapidly running out of room!!

to free up some floorspace i hung my circulation fan from a bungie cord, and it rests there in the corner against one of the light cables on one side and a thick piece of foam rubber on the other side (not visible) to eliminate vibration:

These are roots now hitting the bottom of the SOGTUB, i think she is ready to FLOWER now. In the above pic^^ you can see i have it sitting above the well for right now, to kind of bring the clones up to the level of the other plants. i might have to put the bigger bushes in the well if they keep blowing up like they have!!
:bat: :woohoo: :sasmokin: :yummy:  :joint:
