Re: tools. Don't get cheap when buying tools, whatever small amount you initially save getting the Chinese made knock-offs won't be worth it when your tool breaks in the field and it costs you another trip, with all the unecessary risks that entails. American made, name brand is usually best, though I like Swiss-made Felco for their hand pruners, small foldable pull action saws and small loppers. Also a pocket chain saw will easily take out saplings almost silently and pretty fast and they are cheap and take up almost no room. Throw one in your pack if small trees/big brush might even be an issue.

I have a buddy whose favorite saying is (and it kills me all the time :biglaugh: ) "I'm too poor to buy cheap stuff" :smoke:

Absolutely....(another trip......costly overall).,...

anyone seen IN POT WE TRUST on showtime.. they showed the san diego marijuana eradication team... for the whole county they only have 1 spotter.. he says he can spot 50 different hues of green..
anyways.. he sees this one bunch of plants that looks like maybe 2000 from in the air... next day they go to get it, it turns out to be 15,000 plants... hoses ran all over, it was a mexican grow... found a camp and everything... they were feeding it miracle grow... they showed 1 plant had to be at least 10-12 ft. tall.... crazy....

Turned it off (Showtime) but, getting ready to turn it back on for "Weeds", so, will try to catch it (think I saw it in guide...) :biglaugh:

(Although.............I may just not...and, wait for season to run so I can just catch it all in a couple days on OnDemand......:smoke:)

Sounds interesting though.....spotters talking etc.......I'm definitely interested....I don't believe that though (50 shades.....what, did they test him? :smoke:)..ie: He spotted 15,000 because he can differentiate 50 shades? :smoke:...see what I'm sayin?....I've never been tested for how many shades, but, pretty sure I could spot 15,000 :smoke: As could almost anyone here (easy to spot...that's the neatly planted rows of bushes in the middle of Natl. Forest :smoke: See what um sayin? :smoke:

Damn Julian. Those plants right next to the street light will still trigger? If thats the case I have WAY more spots than I realized.

Is there a cheap device/rule of thumb/technique that can be used in the field to know if any ambient light is enough to prolong veg? I turned down many potential locations because I didnt want to waste time on something that wouldnt even flower, but not you!

Did you learn by trial and error (i.e. did you ever have a huge patch not flower cuz it was too close to a light) or did you just grab on to your nuts, plant and hope?

I am in a very dense area, which makes growing EASIER if you ask me (everyone always expects it to be in the woods, in fields. No one expects a crawling vine in the back woodchips of an office complexes parking area to actually be dank nuggets.

Don't mean to but in, as I'll admit I have no where near the knowledge and experience Julian has attained. :rasta:

But I do know from experience that street lights shouldn't pose a problem unless you've planted right underneath them or really close.

Had a place with a balcony that had a streetlight quite close, and it wasn't a problem. Outdoor plants aren't nearly as susceptible to herm as indoor plants IMO.

I bet OD plants don't even "notice" it when a street light in the distance turns on or when you inspect your ladies with a 100w bulb at night because the intensity of the sun is magnitudes greater than anything man can produce.

I will put some other notes I wanted to add that I brought up with someone today after this/at bottom....

InjectTruth said:

I've never had a problem, always brought every single one in.....(detail below)...
Is there a cheap device/rule of thumb/technique that can be used in the field to know if any ambient light is enough to prolong veg? I turned down many potential locations because I didn't want to waste time on something that wouldn't even flower, but not you!
Okay.......for simplicities sake......this is how I have explained it in the past.......

Now:
1.They are not right there.......by one and under one are 2 completely different matters

2.I can tell you this:
With a cloudy night? (no moon....little moon, etc)....even with the streetlights it's , for the mist part still pitch black in the city spots.....(I wish I had some light, when I do M/F I could sex without any additional light, and, not have to go when still some light out to see.....

B. Now....not too far back...completely clear sky, full moon........Was brighter than the streetlights.......(overall, over all spots, etc...)

Forest growers will also relate to this...Moon, no moon....big difference...

Nah, I have yet to have a problem....They light general areas...but, dim, distant light....

My thoughts.....? (not a scientist, never have been, never will be....) Is that not like indoor.....outdoors "light" is blazing, intense sun......

I've heard that people who get headlights hitting plants will mess it up, but, again, a streelight "over there" still a different matter fr4om headlights directly on plants....

Nah, I've never had a problem....(not yet.........hits desk couple times :smoke:)
Did you learn by trial and error (i.e. did you ever have a huge patch not flower cuz it was too close to a light) or did you just grab on to your nuts, plant and hope?
Nah...spots are pretty dark to start out with.....streetlights not right over......minor thing.....I assumed trigger issue is minor, as, sun aboive determines more the cycle.....and, streetlights are, for the most part, minor "ambient" light...(similat to full moon, etc....)
I am in a very dense area, which makes growing EASIER if you ask me (everyone always expects it to be in the woods, in fields. No one expects a crawling vine in the back woodchips of an office complexes parking area to actually be dank nuggets.

:smoke:

Sometimes the most obvious is the most unobvious :smoke:.....

I mean...pics above...:smoke:.....

Many of the things I do, and have always done, and had great success with are things that "the experts" claim are not possible.....(many proven in pics)...so...I always say...you know "Beware of the Experts" :smoke: (It's a running inside joke....)

Think it's determined by spot though....a typical wooded spot, etc, is one thing...headlights hitting them, etc, another......streetlights fairly minor in whole scheme of things...like I said.....nights with a full moon I love because I can indeed, basically "see"......streetlights alone, overcast night.......still cannot....

Now....

I was talking to someone else about city spots, and, the various things I do....When periods like are hitting many now come in (heat waves, 90's, etc, no rain).....I might feel the urge to go check, and, might as well bring as much water as I can carry, and, maybe still some stashed in bushes at spots, etc, but, another thing I do that to me is pretty safe is I dump bags of ice around plants....(not exactly touching stems, but, around base, etc).....Same deal...guy with couple bags of ice on hot day....maybe going to bring for a keg :smoke:...co9uld be any number of things..(bags are still bags, and, people wonder what's inside :smoke: I can usually get 4 10lb bags in two hands..(make holes in each for 2 fingers, so, 2 bags, 4 fingers, etc....)...I do that too sometimes, depends..(might not want to mix up batch, etc...) Some times also if a chance at the place I mix up some larger batches of ice (but with nutes), and, same deal....right before spot just smash em on sidewalks, etc..break em up and just dump the ice....I "walk the line" scattering it....(no, temp of water nopt an issue when in high 90's.....roots not going to get 40 degrees....might get high 50's, 60's, etc....if even that....)But, for me, very quick and easy just to walk scattering cubes......about 1/3rd or more quicker than manually watering.....(Sometimes I just slice3 a bag or two open (small hole) and walk them and shake em as walking......

So, bags of ice is pretty simple and quick...(I just stop at places closest to spots and buy em, still frozen, etc, fairly cheap, etc......)

Sometimes also, depending, I'll throw a dry mix of nutes in small hole in top of bag and try and mix (so ice and dry nutes for top feed and water.....)

All depends how I feel.....the ice I usually do when lazy, very hot, etc...

(Sometimes, if on hand, I do both...water and ice.......depends how much I can carry, trips, etc...)

Sometimes, will stock up when at wal mart and buy the gallons (like 50 cents a gallon) and the 2.5 gallons of the spring water....(Which are awesome containers for p-eople to keep and use over again btw :smoke:) ..Keep a bunch in trunk in case I am checking on something, etc.....So......do I water?.....As a general rule, NO, I stay away from spots as much as possible....

If I am there checking?....I always try and bring what I can carry if haven't been rains or if it's been extremely hot....(ie: I don't make special trips to water, but, if there anyway, I do...why not :smoke: Can only help....)

(Note: I also try to anticipate and keep a concentrate mix in car, so, in case I decide to stop, have a little water on hand, just dump little into each gallon, shake a little, nute mix ready to go (FN....Flowering is the FN, FL,and KB....because what I have excess of and trying to get rid of this season....getting a little old....)

PERFECT EXAMPLE OF PEOPLE OVERLOOKING THE OBVIOUS!!!!!!

I am sitting here worrying about street lights 75ft. away and Im not even THINKING about the FUCKIN MOON!! Lol. Its good to laugh at yourself.

That ice idea is wild! I actually know a ice skating rink that has several piles of SNOW (yes, snow) sitting in the parking lot through this heat. Now common sense dictates that this snow is obviously a waste product of the rink, BUT the pile looks suspiciously the SAME every time I pass by. Anyway, now I have a use for it. Who would have thought, snow mulch!

---- Side Note -----

Julian, I am a youngster from a sketch background, but am not a "thug lifer", merely paying the bills. Unlike many, I am fiending to actually get ON the grid, not off, but am very overwhelmed by the magnitude of unknowns on hand. I remember reading that you get 100 PM's a day or so. Let me know if it would be cool to ask you a few more in depth questions in PM, and if so, when would be convenient.

THANK YOU

You are a bodhisattva.

:biglaugh: They're all funny....Fuckin Andy rocks :biglaugh: Him and Doug make that show...without em, wouldn't even be close to what it is :smoke:..

Yeah, I saw it from S1,Ep 1.....I mean, kinda annoying sometimes...you know..(I mean, to anyone who hasn't seen it, best way to describe it, is it's a "cute" show......You know...unrealistic in many ways...:badday:....and, I mean, they could have take it in a different direction to be hardcore...(ie: Soprano's/Wire, but about bud....real rooms, shot on site, etc...), but...for what it is....it's funny :biglaugh:

It has it's moments...(I wanted to get in on that show as a consultant.....fuckin bad :biglaugh: I had a similar idea...(but, real, raw, etc.......)

(I assume wouldn't be "big", and, hit "mainstream" if it was too hard edged.....so....)

Edit: Meaning I assumed the NETWORK thought that......Wire a good example....extremely raw and while a big underground thing......."mainstream" still never really has picked it up yet :badday:..(Last season Wire starting in March btw I heard.......hopefully I'll still have at least some PS :biglaugh: :smoke: (eh, otherwise, will just do the rounds :biglaugh:)

:biglaugh:

"Hey, Lupida.....what do you call the thing between the dick and the asshole".........

"The coffee table" :biglaugh:

Fuckin one liners on that show kill me :biglaugh:.....

(I think I was "sold" like.....on the 5th episode of first season.....30 minutes of rapid one lines........He gets busted and is fuckin with the bike cop, and, then the attorney :biglaugh:)
anyways back to the spotter,,, he said normal people could spot 10 different shades of green whereas he could see 50..(I thinks its bull myself) That plot deffinitly stood out though thats for sure.. Good show to catch though....
Yeah, I think I saw it in guide but didn't have it (Showtime) at the time, but, yeah, will catch it/look for it as soon as that comes on......(I think it's Aug 12th/13th for start of 3rd season.....)

Yeah....if stuff like that....I'm interested....(I'm sure there's some propaganda...but...can deal with it if other stuff of interest.......and, come to think of it...highly possibly (since about green :smoke:, that they will run before or after Weeds :smoke:)

Note: I would think it's more about the positioning, structure, patterns, etc, than the shades/color......
P.S. Thanks for the nutes list... even though its freakin huge...lol
Well.......money no object so really just a matter of wandering through, or going through lists saying "That,That,That,That,That, etc......bulk organics cheap at right source...as above man...fuckin half ton for under a grand in many cases.....actually, when you go tons....fuck.....some shit you get can tons for like....400-500 bucks...(ie: same as anything...bigger you go, better the price.....single lb might be 5 bucks....50 might be 50 bucks.......500 might be 200 bucks....100 might be 400 bucks, etc.......same as any product...green too :smoke: Bulk always gets you the discount......

(I used to tell people all the time who got like, 20's and 50's.....ask for a 250-500 price and put the money they have down on the 250-500)

Same with any product....

Julian that movie with the George Clooney quote was "Three Kings."

As for the rest of what you said I appreciate the advice. I guess what I've been thinking is on par and that we just gotta start it up slow...start with an Indoor first (even though that is an obvious step in the process, where no IDG = no ODG) and then when we can't handle our customer base anymore move to outdoor as well.

I must say I was a little surprised to hear you say "don't grow if you don't have to" in my case. I'm quite sure that you don't have to...hehe, alas here you are loving every minute of it. Of course I'm sure you'll take your own advice and get out someday, and I'm sure I'll do the same. Hard to be running of to the woods to plant seeds when the wife starts popping out kids (she's just the g/f for now so no worries any time soon haha).

I mean the whole point is to do it so you can get ahead right. With most of my money tied up in my house and the rest being saved for the other necessities in life, I honestly don't have the extra loot to just dump into another business, or another property. I'm content working the 9-5 for now anyhow, I just want to make some extra loot to really save more, faster for property...businesses...etc. I would love to open an irish bar, like a true fackin irish baaah where people can just come and paaak their asses down and murder a nice cold beeeaah, and listen/dance to some good old fashion irish music.

You say property, education, good credit...sure I've got that...but doesn't that make me even less of a suspicious character in the first place? I always need extra things to keep me busy anyway, might as well do something that I like where I can meet new people and make a decent extra paycheck.

Also, glad you guys discussed the outdoor lights thing... we were wondering how close you could get to street lights and the like. I gotta say though to the guy who forgot that we had a moon...that made me giggle a little haha.

They always have :smoke:...(note: You have to make sure spots are good though........most ignore everything around them, but, if a place people stare...well, they would spot it :smoke:....Again, also deals with the spot dictating the method (ie: small ones)...

Example: I have some city spots I basically have to crawl through, even sometimes at night....if I stood straight up...I could be seen from the street......
I am sitting here worrying about street lights 75ft. away and Im not even THINKING about the FUCKIN MOON!! Lol.
Yeah, some of mine , as seen in pics....much closer than that.....(but, again, angle, vegetation, etc....I mean, it's something you would scope out at spot........if planting at night also...you would see and might plant things couple feet over, etc, etc, stuff like that...(I've done that......spot got direct light, so, I moved over a couple feet by bushes, and, none....)
Its good to laugh at yourself.
And god knows we all have something we should about..:smoke:

Who would have thought, snow mulch!
Might work, might not....(shavings would melt quicker, but, if airtight bags, water just the same.......any holes in bags would leak....those pre done bags of ice always seem to have holes from being stacked :biglaugh:) Yeah...90's....melts slow anyway...wouldn't matter if it was blocks of ice....(might actually help, longer to absorb/dissolve, cooler root temps in extreme heat, etc....I just do the bags of cubes because can buy almost everywhere for pretty cheap..(ie: close to spots....)

All depends how I feel.....

Humbled and flattered.....

Clean questions up a bit, do here, and maybe be of use to others....(questions and answers...)

You should be btw...(on grid.....)

Can be both......(can be straight, etc, in line, and have "extra" bundles sealed up in your basement drywall....spare tire in garage....etc :smoke:....

Lot of stuff in both threads though man....so.....might already be things there :smoke:.....

Well....alas.....I'm a stone cold addict.....:smoke: I probably wouldn't stop if I won $300M tomorrow......

Kinda of like a veteran smoker telling someone not to start.....

If you must, well, then you must, but, feel a little irresponsible encouraging someone to....It's a dangerous game.......Not a joke......(Similar is I have friends who make 300k+ a yr, and, they want to own buildings.....I tell them don't bother, not worth it, not worth their time (if you calculate benefits against profit against hrly salary....Would be more effective for them to save a little and get into bigger things managed by third party management companies...)

As far as "fun".....well.......I actually had been having some problems because it wasn't anymore (several know the bigger story)...Just not "fun"....

Grow for PS?....Absolutely, everyone should I think....Move into it for money?...Well...looks like your set up for all the legal money you can make/desire to...

Just trying to be responsible......Hope you understand......

Me?....Well....Every yr that goes by...I'm realizing more and more about time to wrap it up (would still run ps though.....anywhere , anytime....)
I mean the whole point is to do it so you can get ahead right.
For some, just ps....for others...an attempted career....for yet others....a "means to an end"......It is whatever you want and need it to be....
With most of my money tied up in my house and the rest being saved for the other necessities in life, I honestly don't have the extra loot to just dump into another business, or another property.
Careful......your moving back into "worker" mode...:smoke:

You can buy other things without cash......You can pull cash back from owner to do work......Don't overestimate cash, and it's use, and your needs....

Well...the above also gives you more to lose......

Lot of people think of green as "free money".....

I've said it before.......the actual price one pays for it is incalculable..

You know.....I just think everyone should be aware exactly what they are doing....exactly what their options are, and, exactly what worse case scenario is......

If one is?...and decides best path?...well, then, you do the best you can, learn as much as you can, etc....

(Personally, I think the Irish place is better idea :smoke: but, I know how you Irish are with your green :biglaugh: Bars easy to get into....not much...not hard....)

Yeah, Julian I getcha completely on the being responsible thing. What it comes down to is risk vs reward. I've thought about that a lot. We just gotta be discrete about what we do. btw, I hadn't seen layer cake yet and saw that you had some you tube links to it and IMDB gave it a decent rating so I picked it up at blockbuster...good movie, crazy ending haha.

But anyway we'll start things off slow work up the contacts and stuff through friend referrals. I'll have to check out the food service industry..after all everyone there is serving my food, and thus its not likely that they are a cop in the day and working at fucking chili's at night.

And of course the bar thing...yeah that can happen just gotta do a couple seasons of ODGs combined with IDGs and its on...I'm just afraid that I'll drink all the profits ;-) Why else would I open an irish bar...I'll give ya a hint...I ain't jewish.

On another note, it seems to be taken for granted that everyone here smokes weed...how else would you get wrapped up in talking about what we're talking about if you didn't right. I guess I just never got into it really...I do smoke very occasional, but I myself have never paid for it, mostly cuz I don't enjoy it that much. Strange though most people seem to love it, thats fine with me though cuz I see a popular, rare (because of legal issues of course) commodity and I'm all over it in a business-like manner.

Exhausted now....yard work to do tomorrow...being a homeowner has its pros an cons...yard work is a con...I could be planting some verrrry late ones haha.

If you smoke 4 packs a day.. or just one cigarette a month.. I dare you.. .mmm triple dog dare you :) to show up here.. and just "try" and roll brazilian jiu jitsu.. for just one real class with white and blue belts.

here's a school in your area!!
http://www.renzogracie.com/html/rzacademy.aspx

Just for fun.. you know.. you wouldn't have to bet or anything. :D
If I had money on it though.. I'd bet you either quit smoking right there and then.. or walk out with your head down never to return.

no punching ,, no kicking.. just good old fashion choking and armbars!

na but seriously BJJ is a lot of fun.. and its a true test of endurance, strength and stamina.. the best part is everyone either smokes pot or is a cop! The cops know what's up.. but because (just like a cop relative) your friends from class.. you get to talk shop back and forth. Then choke the shit out of em.
Figured that would be right up your alley julian

edit: the reason why i like it is bjj can be a very cerebral.. thinking sport. It's like kinetic chess and you just wouldn't understand till ya show up.

Definately a more active person than I am, I do a lot of walking but not much more strenuous outside of work (Moderate to heavy lifting involved pretty often, lots of walking/moderate activity). I'm too skinny to be a fat lazy slob, but probably 2 out of 3 ain't bad, eh? :jump:

GG.. I know I'm not in anywhere near the shape for that sort of play. Any of the grappling styles is a serious workout, from what I understand and what very limited experience I have.

Though if I were going to pick a martial art to study and practice, I think Capoera looks very interesting. Ever notice that any time you see a capoerista they look like they're having fun? Haven't seen a lot of it, since there are no local practitioners but any video footage (movies or tournament/demonstration vids) I've seen, they're always grinning like fools and having a high old time. That and the dance aspects interest me, as well as the little I know of it's history.

Okay, now to something more on topic again...

What precautions, if any, do folks take to deal with/avoid/deter animal attacks? Dogs, any wild critters that may be lurking out there (Snakes, what have you...). My woodsmanship skills are sadly atrophied by turning into an urbanite. It's not something I see talked about all that much really, which I assume is because such encounters are pretty scarce in the grand scheme of things, but it's something that it doesn't hurt to be at least halfway prepared for.
