Thanks.

I'm going to have to give you a big fat NO on that.

It is a heavy narcotic couch lock. I typically cannot sleep while high on herb but those buds lay me out. I've smoked too many indica strains to even consider counting and I put it near or at the top for it's crippling high.

I agree that organic has many positives. I would not crap on anyone's style believe me.

At times I have 2 or 3 set ups to deal with with 400+ plants in each. I found that the feeding program I use is simple and grows great herb. I can't see myself doing that mix of your on a commercial scale.

This was the first time in a decade I changed anything in my feeding program. I had to go with a hard water formula so I scrapped the powder food I had been using. Everything was fine til I applied Liquid Karma a couple of times in flower. Poof! Hermies and seeds.

Before anyone points to the water or food I'll let you know that a friend with good water and a different feeding program tried the LK on my suggestion and Poof! Hermies and seeds. We are both in shit here. :cuss:

NF- I just stumbled along your post... nice set up by the way. I just wanted to let you know that, I too had the same problems with the LK. Lost my whole crop to hermies and seeds. Im just glad i finally figured out the cause.. I have not used it yet on my current, thankfully. It will be going in the dumster....

super impressed.. thank you for all the new ideas. keep it up. :headbange

damn NF, i've always loved this setup and now I have the equipment and space for it... just no means to keep it cool, or enough babies to start with..

7'wide, 6'deep, and 8'high.. would you run 2K, or 3K?

I'm keeping an eye on this until I can afford to cool it down properly then i'll be adding shelves.

what indicas do you recommend? looking for a strain or two to grow out, same purpose as yours.. ;)

I'd start with 2k and see later if you could squeeze a 3rd 1000w.

Our best strain for it has been Hash Plant and not Sensi Seeds HP.

We did very well with Northern Lights also. There have been other unknown clone only strains we have done well with also.

I'm running the first full rooms of Purple Kush so I'll let you know how that works out. It may take some learning to get that PK dialed for this sytem. Like mentioned earlier, for the price we get I'm willing to accept the smaller crops.

I'll mention again that these rooms pack their weight on from the over lapping light.

I've seen it done where people grew too far from and spread the lights too far apart and didn't do nearly as well.

On lighting/heat principles alone...I'll second this motion and hope that the masses reading this thread will read your statement again NF :bashhead:
I will add a general comment or two of my own to elaborate if that's cool :smoke:

First of all...it's a bare bulb, so heat rises straight up from it very quickly. Sure, a plant top might have to be up to 22-24" away from a 1K bulb in a reflector...but with no heat being reflected directly at the plants...they can now be closer at the closest point to a verticle bulb. What this now does as well is give increased light to the plants that are at their furthest points away from the light source. Then you toss into the mix the fact that there are multiple light sources (4) in such a short distance (10ft)...and you have some pretty intense lighting
Each shelf is in fact a different distance away from the light source because a stadium pattern is in a 'V' pattern typically. The bottom rows can be quite close to the bulb as they are getting indirect light from an unreflected vertically hung bulb and the heat rises away immediately. The middle rows are a little further away from the bulb, saving heat stress, but are receiving more direct light straight off the bulb. The top row, furthest from the bulb, but getting some direct light, and no heat stress...
It just makes sense that you get a nice stadium SOG :joint:

Now...that 'V' pattern I mentioned. If one does the math for the 'steps' of the stadium so that they create, dimensionally, the bottom half of an 'O'...and you hung the light horizontal, like Bonzo showed...you would now have half of a perfect circle, each plant getting the same light intensity from the bulb. Like half of a coliseum layed down instead of standing up.
One thing tho that comes to mind that would certainly affect the end result overall...vertical bulbs, like Northern Farmer and most others, have over lapping light...a true multi light verticle system like a Coli, either standing up or layed down...doesn't have as much overlapping light.
So after thinking about that for a minute...with a multi light setup...the 'standard' multi light stadium might actually out perform a multi light stadium that has horizontally hung bulbs???
But a single light stadium...I think Bonzos example, or the horizontal bulb...would come out on top.

Anyways....that's my 1 finger typing brain fart of the night.
Carry on. :smoker:

Northern Farmer, how's it going? Thought I'd give you an update on my half-assed stadium. At day 42 of flowering and the girls are developing nicely. I can see the potential with this growing style, if I had another pair of shelves it would really be full of nugs in there. That's the goal next round.

I'm using 1 gal bags of Pro Mix. There is no draining onto the floor. I water enough to go on a 2 day watering cycle and no run through happens unless I'm doing it for some other reason.
btw....just to ask, as it was already...what about runoff? (which you may or may not have usually...but when you do....then what??? )

I'll try to grab a pic of an item that may interest you...I have no idea what it's called, so I'll just get a pic and post if I can soon.

Ok guess I'll jump on the bandwagon....I got off my butt and messed around a bit...this is what I came up with...

it's 5 rows trying to follow NF's design..right side is on castors to roll away..it's 8 feet long and i'll be running 1 x1000 and 2x600's on a light mover...co2 and AC to keep temps down when needed..I have cool tubes to run if needed but I know I wont need the ac or cool tubes come winter...then I'll add another 1000..I think i'll run a smaller number and veg them a lil longer..not sure yet..I coated the shelves with Fiberglass resin..waiting for it to dry so I can give it a coat of latex white...also the shelves are pitched to drain down to the end if I run a drainage system..once again I think for this run at testing the room i'll keep it simple and hand water with no runoff..got a hydro Idea I'm thinking of also but I'm not going to get ahead of myself..Thanks for the wonderful idea and thread NF...

12345,

Great observations. About run off, there is the occasional run off but it's very little. Like spilling a glass of water. It can be left to evapourate or be cleaned up.

Rolando,

Looking good!

Cannabullies,

That's a very interesting design? I see your shelves are tilted forward? Be carefull of leaners tipping over.

Shatter,

Someone was looking into designing a cab on a tier set up somewhere in this thread if memory serves me correct. You can pm him.

thanks so much northern farmer..... noticed you posted that you had never used less than a 1000w, whats the smallest area youve ever used one in? preciate your help.

Very nice setup. Like what you did with the castor's and resin. I'm going to do the same with all my wood. I've always got about 5 gals of resin sitting around from projects. Since i'm going your route also, "Hydro". I'm going to seal all my wood with resin. Don't want any issues if it gets wet. Can't wait to see more on your setup. If you do a thread. Could you please link us to it? Thanks and take care.
Later,

dude another one
damn these grows are cool.. must feel like ur being watched by the plants.
wheres russel crowe!

Thanks NF...Not to worry..My pots fit right under the shelf above it..The top will be small indicas...Every pot will have a stake for support...I had to make my own stringers to get the pitch and space I needed..I'm proud of it...Once again thanks for the Ideas..

BG...thanks for the kind words...Yeah I liked the resin idea..been giving it lots of coats top and bottom..If I decide to run hydro I can cut out holes for net pots and run gutter underneath...I think having the castors gives ya more freedom..we will see..I'll keep you guys posted...a glimpse into the future

CannaBullies, what are the dimensions of that room? did you go with 20" from the roof for your top tier?

I like man, nice work!
