Where is supposed to be the Zacatecas from the Zacatecas Tribute strain? Was it named like that just because of the Big Sour Holy Weed myth?

If this is by any chance an honestly sincere question I am pleased to answer.
As the name implies it is a tribute to Zacateca which was a purple Sativa strain from that region in Mexico. Does anyone have original pure Purple Zacateca Sativa? Maybe yes maybe no? But reportedly it has been documented to be an important part of Kagyu Big Sur Holy Weed strain.
Crossing that to what I know and what I have carried for over 45 years as Oaxacan Gold strain certainly makes it nothing less than worthy of being grown by any Sativa loving gardener or smoker.
Hope that answers your question?

Thanks for the info! I'm sure the plant has the quality any would expect, having seen some of your other works and passion. I was just curious since I was looking for something related to those oldschool purple Mexicans from the old articles, but so far all the BSHW versions I've seen look really dissapointing. One should expect an untamed oldschool purple sativa that may resemble the purple and red Colombians, Purple Haze and Panamanians from back then, if the BSHW was really what its said to be.

I believe the Zacatecas Purple and Big Sur Holy Weed is partly just a myth that came after the quote from the book from Jerry Kamstra and a bunch of vintage articles and references. No one could even verify the original Big Sur Holy Weed had any Zacatecas Mexican in the making, or if the BSHW version from Perry the Monk and Danbo was legit or just some made up story indeed, to make people think this guys have something really special or better from others. It's hard to find out the truth behind many strains actually, because there's often so much bs around them.

My point is that not many can afirm they had access to what could be the legit Zacatecas or even BSHW, not Bodhi, who even named his version Big Sur Holy Bud, to avoid confusions, since he couldn't be sure of what he really sourced or sell it as the real dael BSWH:

Strain description of the Bodhi Seeds Big Sur Holy Bud line:

“these were a special gift to a well connected friend from an old grower in big sur, she gave them to me because she knew that i loved seeds, and would do them right. can i 100% verify this is the original undiluted or unhybridized big sur holy weed line from perry the monk, no can do, but what i can say is this is unique, oldschool, mind ablaze green fire time capsule weed from the big sur mountains.

Not even Reeferman, Snowhigh or especially Kagyu, who was reported as someone questionable with the origins of his genetics. Both his Burmese, Panama, BSHW or mexicans look deceiving. Him, Snow, Danbo, Reeferman and most others who tried to cash on the BSHW/Zacatecas name just keep pushing the myth, while taking advantage on passionate growers like you and me, who were excited to experience the legend of the Zacatecas Purple after reading the old articles, but probably will never have the chance to grow the real deal or anything close and authentic. The more you research on the origins of this strains, the more it seems none of them can proof the authenticity or even confirm the history behind those. And the more people insist they have the real deal, the less I'd trust them either.

People want to believe in the Zacatecas and BSHW, but this is becoming a bit like UFOs, you gotta experience them in order to believe!

I hear you!
The backbone of all my breeding work is my Oaxacan Gold and I can assure you that it is Authentic, I present what I grow and document with photos and as much information as I can provide so people can make informed decisions for them selves. And I would not release anything that I did not feel was not of the best quality in every aspect. The Zacatecas tribute is just that, a tribute. All I offer are certainly top shelf mostly to pure Sativa that will perform wonderfully under the least of ideal conditions for the Northern outdoor and indoor gardeners.

I just stuck two of those beans in the dirt VM. Curious to see how they do. :)

Awesome!
Please keep us posted, I am really keen on this one. But also very realistic we shall see how this strain plays out.
But you are certainly ahead of me on this one and clearly I would love to hear your read on her.
Cheers Tex!

My mountain gold grow from last year. Im an amateur photographer obviously so sorry for the bad quality. I loved this strain. It would fill the grow room with the smell of cotton candy if you barely nudged her. And ive never seen a plant grow the way she does. Almost like some kind of cactus. My favorite GM strain to date and its sad to see her go but Im sure VTman has his reasons. Luckily i got the last pack from real gorilla and I get to enjoy her one more time

That is terrific Rob!
You know if you breed your new seeds to each other you could very quickly and easily develop a table IBL
strain that you could carry for decades with no genetic drift. Simply because the Oaxacan and the Hawaiian are so stable and it is basically a primary hybrid.
Thank you for sharing!

Thanks VTman! Id love to make new strains but I just dont have the time and space for it. Im lucky enough to have a wife that allows me to have a 5x5 grow tent now that the kids are out of the house. I have 12 seedlings going between the mountain gold PS and Zacatecas. Variety is the spice of life!

Hey VTman. I understand what you mean now by table ibl. I got that confused with crossbreeding. Sorry im a very novice grower even after 3 years. I do have 4 mountain gold seeds left though so maybe ill make some down the road. Im very interested in running your GMG for my next grow after seeing all those stellar photos of yours

Hey Rob
Its all good!
Even as a long time grower there is always something new to be learned.
Awesome! The Grape is definitely one of my favorites. Outdoors she preforms well and super fast finish, with a fairly substantial harvest.
indoors her buds put on so much flower to leaf it is one of the most easy trim strains I have worked with. GMG is also very powerful and upbeat with just a bit of a relaxed vibe. And fairly regular for flowering time coming in solid and chunky at 9 weeks from time flip 12/12. Indoors under LED grow lights the dense spear shaped nugs with orange hairs really purple up.
Please keep us posted.
Happy growing!

Well, my one M. Gold is finally starting to get interesting. The pics below were taken today, day 22 of 12/12. She's taking everything I throw at her and loves a lot of light as you can see. More later as she develops.

Hello Mr Pistil!
Great job!
I think your Mountain Gold is happily praying under the LED grow light with really wonderfully beautiful serrated leaves.
I will definitely be looking forward to more updates on her! specially as she gets sexier! HAHA
How long did you veg her?
Thank you for sharing!

9 week veg in a one gal. Question for you. As I alluded to and you noted, the MG loves the light. I've started to back her off from the light, as I've had numerous strains show light/heat burn from this light. In your experience, will the MG handle a LOT of light? I've seen no signs of light burn on the upper leaves yet. I'd like to push her as much as possible, but without doing any damage. Thx.

9 week Veg?? That plant must be a beast! I only vegged mine for 3 weeks last grow and they shot up to 8 ft in a 3 gallon. And that was using a 600watt in a 5x5 grow tent
