First ever grow - Hydro ebb'n'flo

thanks bongsong!!! I definitely am enjoying this process. Its hard not to get so into it! My goal is to have some good strains in my mothers room, like the gdp, pkush, and a few others. I believe im allowed to have 6 mothers, and 6 flowering? Ultimately, every 3-4, I will pick which strains I want to keep, and which I want to grow (from my mother collection). The bonsai method looks good but i am thinking that when my mom gets too big, ill clone it, and then flower the big mama! There are so many options but i believe this is my best bet. I have looked into bubble cloners and i think i will go that route. In my future mom box, I will have t5 64K 48 watts total, pc fans to vent, a bubble cloner[not always active]. i will take a Michael Jordan clone cuz he is just a beast right now. I will put that in the bubble cloner. Then the pkush will go in potted soil [or should i put the rooted clone in a bubble cloner waiting]. what do you think bong song!?

OK, if the kush is rooted then get it in a pot and clone it soon as you can without taking half the mom.

You're medical? Damn! If I was medical... well.....

Have you seen the Tomato Tree at Apcot? One plant supported on a trellis network, thousands of tomatoes at any one time. Well, I dream of a marijuana tree. An indeterminate flowering species vegged to fill out a 40 ft scrog screen....

I'm actually thinking of trellising my tomato and using it for summer shade in my greenhouse, trim right back in winter, it'd look insane. I have vines on it nearly 18 feet already just to the roof, to the ground, back up to roof...

There's 200 odd tomatoes on it now, 2000, there's a goal!

My weed tree will be in a 44 gallon planter, still designing it. One day the right genetics will fall in my lap. One day I'll find the perfect space for it... One day!!!!

holy crap!! my dad would dream about farming tomatoes...if he only knew =)
I would love to see this and the 44gal design!! my mom always said dream big tho, so good luck!

unfortunately for me...My p-kush clone wilted on me! =((( (i think cuz i had it about 5 ft from a 400w MH, or could it be the 1-2ml of micro nutrients?)

either way its fighting for its life! i put it above a humidifier, and under a weak flouro. It doesnt look worse, but barely a little better...If it does survive, what soil should i start with? (i saw miracle grow potting soil only at walmart) AND, i have some EJ remember!!!!??? can i use 3part in soil? (you said come to u with EJ questions!!! =D)

I removed the pkush from its cup as it didnt seem to make any progress. I got some Fox farm potting soil, and put the clone in an 8in pot, i also removed the lower half roots, as they had been clumped together in the cup and looked rotten. I clipped some leaves, and hopefully all this shock will not kill it. if it does, well ****!!!!!! We will see how it goes

Kill that thing with kindness huh :)

Leave it be to recover, flush it with water, then afterwards don't continue to over water it. If it lives to spite you all good.

Try to do the following when you get a rooted clone.

ASAP...
a) put it in a dirt pot or
b) put it in a hydro pot.

Clones don't need food, they just need to sit in some medium and get rooted, then, few days later, a wee bit of food...

Mums barely get fed, or they'd get too big.

Anyway, that clone could sit and look like crap for weeks now, don't kill it any more with kindness, let it recover and then it will grow.

Trick to a hydro 'tree' is circulation and airation. And not getting the circulating and airating parts clogged with roots for the duration of the grow.

I'm working on it, had a crazy looking thing running today with 4 airlift pumps. Find they run different at different heights inside a volume of water so gonna have to get a 4 way regulator, so I can push air out at same pace but 4 levels in the barrel this forcing circulation... and back to the basement Bwa Ha Ha (evil cackle)

Started training tomato onto roof today, fun. I reckon it'll look amazing finished. Give me a couple months of trying to get design out of the chaos and I'll show you a pic.

i wish i had done so earlier! o well. its still alive, and i think i see new growth??? but i will definetly update with some pics this wknd. My setup has changed a bit, and of course will keep changing. I'll be getting my inline fan tmrw!!! sweet temps under 80!!!

man, i would just like to say that growing has made me appreciate the world we live in so much more. I thought smoking did that, but now i feel one with earth, as a mother and her child. this experience is teaching me a lot aswell. I am happier, having better relations with parents/friends. I just need to focus on school and all will be good!

also, bongsong your amazing

"Amazing"

Allright, you just made my day.

I try, see, the best part of life is people, and the more we help our fellow travellers the easier our own journey becomes.

There were people before me, coaching me, in so many areas, I owe it to the universe to be grateful, and helpful.

Glad you're enjoying the journey mate, the destination is just media hype, the journey is where it's at. If you kept your eye on the prize constantly, you'll forget to stop and smell the flowers. Life is full of unhappy goal setters, we've covered goals, goals are easy, the real trick is what you're doing now. Experiencing and enjoying the ride.

Of course, having a big stash of buds makes the journey oh so much easier...

Move the top clone away from the dead one's pot. Just in case it's catching..

Plants seem to be doing ok but I see a potential problem. the roots in one photo dying back. Is there light getting in under there, like quite a bit of it? If so, this needs to be addressed. You could use duct tape and drape the 4 edges of your container with dark material, plastic, whatever you can rummage up. You shouldn't really need to get inside there till you harvest, unless there's a drain issue.

Still, lookin good!

yes, there are a few dead root tips, and since i just cover using those panels, im sure a little light is coming thru. Is this really causing damage to the roots? those panels cover up atleast 95%... the container is light proof, only way light is coming in is thru the top. I would hate to have to cover the top permy cause i take my ppm/ph readings from it =)

also, one more week veg? if they triple in size during 2 weeks of flower...but it is a indica

"triple in size during 2 weeks of flower" - ??? Definately veg some more, see how they look in a week.

I've seen it happen. You really won't know till you flower. If a plant is already big it aint gonna triple in size. Grow a seedling in 12/12 you'd get a 'spectacular' result.

Yes they stretch a lot, and it's fast.

Dead roots are bad news Vigilo. Roots are the life support system of the plant. Light leaks have plagued hydro growers along with the resultant algae that competes for oxygen, space, and nutrients.

But you need to get in there. Make a lightproof 'curtain' that you can drape around the container, and lift a corner of if you want to do ppm etc.

Veg another week, and then look at the size they're taking in respect to the room you have. As you are utilising LST, once they take up 2/3rds of the canopy area you want (flat area, not height), go 12/12.

They're not rootbound in that setup, but the roots were getting hit by light you have photographic evidence.

Is it wet or dry in the table just before the next flood hits?

Put a piece of tissue on the flood table base just before a flood cycle, is it wet/damp? If it's dry, definately up the cycles. Could be temps. pH maybe.

I'm interested in flood cycles too, trying to find research supporting some of the stuff I'm reading concerning how often...

In organics you can flood a lot. I flood some systems over 4 times per hour... I'll have to put me thinking cap on, and do some reading, and see what's said on the subject some more. Bit of a build on, and family functions, and work....

Damn, and all a man wants to do is smoke weed and study. Will get back with what I find when eventually I find it.
