thanks jblaze!! do u have a thread goin on it? i would love to check out ur system
as for me..today was a little hot and temps hit 83. ouch. to top that off, they had tip burn on some leaves. im assuming they drank lots of water, and i since i used store water i didnt top off. I added a fresh gallon today, hope that helps.
looking good vigilo! you will pull some really good dank out of your cab. simple easy setup, especially good for a first timer(im only a second timer, hehe!) you will have a bountiful harvest. and for your humidity question, i live in AK where it is extremely dry, humidity is very low, probably no more then 20% ive never bothered to do anything about it and haven't seen any problems. i heard they grow faster when in veg though with a bit higher humidity.
if u are worried about it u can place a few cups of water in there so ur light can evaporate some water. i am doing that in my 24/7 chamber and haven't noticed any problems (bugs, algae.)
thanks alaskaG! im so excited but scared also, so your kind words help =)
I heard about the water idea, but i was wondering, since i dont have glass covering my MH bulb...will the evaporating water condense on the bulb and KABOOM?
Your bulb will be fine. When it's running it's too hot for water to collect there. When it's not running it's not causing evaporation anymore. Airflow will stop it condensating at night. I wouldn't worry about humidity as your system has waterflow and plants that transpire, both adding to relative humidity themselves.
When it's dry it is easier to add moisture, when it's already moist, harder to add more.
If you didn't know... The leaves on the plants, where there is leaves directly opposite each other on the stem - this signifies the plant is not sexually mature (Achilles). But when they begin to become staggered on the stem (Michael Jordan) they are 'mature'.
This'll help plan in future you are pressed for space - knowing plants will flip to flowering easily, rather than need to grow out more before they do will assist in which strains you want to keep.
Clones make things easier, they normally arrive from a mature plant.
Some plants respond well to flowering and do what they're told when they're told. Other anarchic bastard plants do what they want, and must reach a certain age before flowering.
The girls are looking good, you'll see some faster growth pretty soon they're just settling in. Looks like they'll bush out nicely.
thanks bongsong, ur advice is always appreciated. So, when all four plant sexually 'mature', is that when i should switch then to 12/12? or is that just an option...can i get any more info on this?
luckily, it rained here, so humidity jumped to 50%. im good for now!
Choosing when to switch to 12/12 has a few matters to consider.
Stretch. When flowering commences, and for the next 2-3 weeks, plants take off, they stretch. Knowing this, and factoring in the room you have, and the light you have...
Will you be maximising the space you can use under the light? Of course, not knowing the strains and how they stretch you have to guess. Indica strains might make the switch relatively easily. Sativa crosses might decide to grow near 2 feet in 3 weeks, I've seen it happen...
You should definately wait a couple weeks (imo) and longer before going to 12/12. A photo of the space your plants take with the light and walls in it would help make a better educated 'guess' for you.
It's wierd how they perform. Naming them is good so you get to know them better. I have one I'd basically written off in veg that is well out-performing the others in flower. The best of three for buckets when I'd picked it as the worst. I think another is the really fast finish genetics I get (6 weeks flower). They're smaller, but would be great for sog and are handy for people with micro-grows. The 3rd is a 3 leafer, and looks to be a longer finisher. Time will tell the full story, it's good to have notes.
This thread is your notebook, fill it with detail and in a few grows you'll know exactly what's going on.
The foil... Give the girls an inch circle clear round the stem, they'll thank you for it.
You can always lower the the flood cycle to touch the bottom of the cubes. As long as the cubes stay moist it's all good. The roots will grow out and grab the nutes over time anyway. 30% humidity isn't bad at all. It's not great. Yet, if your plants are showing any signs of illness, you are okay.
thanks chosen, ive actually had problems with my table overflowing. i have a bery powerful pump which fills my table in less than a minute. It usually is perfect, but i suspect gravity is tryna **** me!
about the plants...
the new growth is a nice dark lush green, MJ has some resin on the new leaves. the lower, older growth however is still that light green/almost yellow.
i have a store bought fill drain, and one overflow drain. i got everything working though again =) thanks.
ill update soon, mike is on his way to a championship (or 3) =)
UPDATE:
I redesigned the closet. (removed flimsy pvc, replaced for shelf)
BongSong, the light is right behind the fan. Its about 1.5-2ft from the plants. I can raise it another 1.5ft. How tall should i let these beauties go before flowering? All 4 are showing the white hairs now r:
I can't help with ppm stuff sorry my nutrient source is weight of fish food ingested...
Now I know you want buds, and that's perfectly understandable, but lets grow some plants big enough so you can keep smoking till the next lot is ready at least.
We'll allow an ounce a month, and 4 months next grow for pissin round with seeds and veg, then flower...
You want a minimum of 4 ounces! 8 would be better, 16ish when you get good at this.
That means those girls of yours need to grow some more. you got more room to grow, so keep growin.
See that second rib in your closet, the one above the plants (the planks on wall for shelves), let's grow to that, and hopefully bushy too, then think about flower.
If you don't know about LST and topping, nows a good time to search and learn. Also, search your nutes on this site, and learn more about them. Don't go as strong as others immediately, you don't know the strains you're dealing with, and the plants are still small.
And patience - this'll save you a lot of heartache, impatient growers overdo things. It's hard, take deep breaths (preferably filled with aromatic smoke) and chill, you're doing great.
thanks bongsong!!! you and my hero! i swear ill mail u some buds in january =)
i looked up LST'ing, and i have tied all my plants down and just 3 hours later i can see the flowers turning toward the light! this is a cool technique!
btw bongsong, my goal is to get 2 ounces a plant now! originally it was an ounce a plant, but after reading about lst, i have bigger better plans =). maybe some topping?
U said u got the clones from sac do u know if they are true gdp,and if ur the valley so am I and maybe I can help if u need I got a script and live in sac,I am decent enough t o help u clone if u need help, just offering some in person help if needed. :friends:
U should clone those babies before u flower so u can get ready for next batch.
That's not a bad idea but does vigilo have facility for 2 month old clones...
I'd wait a considerable time before 'hooking up' with anyone if security and law is an issue where you are. No offence there vinny.
You have time to learn to clone, or make bonzai Mums, while vegging. I'll help.
I'm examining 3 phenotypes from one seed Mum at present. Picking the winner is not so easy. But, some obvious flaws are coming up now and the winner is 'almost' clear. The final smoking contributes greatly to the decision.
Like watching to see which plants mature faster, and grow better in veg, the plants act independantly in flower. The smallest overtook the others. Is it the winner, not yet. Another has good buds, very early finishing buds. Is it the winner, no. Under the main buds the secondary growth and lower buds are pathetic. On another plant the lower buds are chunky, and don't seem to care if there's light penetration or not. They grow fat regardless. This is the winner, it will crop the best, and also the plant is growing without stripping nitrogen yet (another is) or showing potassium deficiency (another is). I'm 90% sure I have the Mum I want but there's tests yet to go, and other things to look for. Will it mold up, will it rot. Is it as strong as I expect from this strain...
Does it shed leaves making a mess and potential insect havens, is it trainable, does it hermy out, stretch too far, does it like my grow methods and nutes?
You'll soon enough know your star performers.
2-3 clones from each plant, soft wood cuttings, labelled, and the best ones kept. Then you can observe all the stuff the Mums get up to, and pick the winner/s.
Rant meaning... Keep a good eye on them. Sometimes you'll notice stuff doesn't mean much but further down the line you'll read something and it will 'click'.
