Glad the conduit's working out for you. It's probably significantly harder to get 3/4" in. The 1/2" goes in like butter unless you get rocks. I'm about to start pounding mine. Did you get an orchard ladder?

Thanks jbarsk!

Its probably the hardest thing I've ever had to do with that post pounding tool.

I'm using a six footer... it's precarious but doable

Try changing the antenna on a cell tower.....

I always remind people, the number one cause of death in the trades is falling off a 6' ladder.

get yourself a digging bar and open up the hole standing on the ground first.
if your soil isn't too rocky you can probably do the whole job with no ladder.
how deep are you setting them?

plants are rocking!

I have mad respect for people that work towers. I knew a guy that would lead a team of dudes on tv towers...would freeclimb during ice storms and shit...never had anyone on his crew die...just thinking about his stories gives me vertigo...

Thats a great idea chunky thanks...I might try that...most went in 2' but some hit rocks at 1'. Seems pretty solid though.

Im also going to put some emt into my fence to make it sturdier. I just wrapped the whole thing in 5' welded wire as well.

I know a guy that fly the chopper for the guy that grounds electrical lines from the chopper with a grounding wand......No thank you.

So what's up with everybody using EMT? 1" I assume? Why not rigid? The 1'' appears to be about the same cost as a t-post. I would think the t-posts would be more sturdy, and last longer? What's the deal?

3/4" is roughly 1/3 the price of t posts. I gotta go pound the rest of those fuckers in.

P.s. I made a million....

I learned it from a cheap asshole who knew the cheapest way to do everything. Would even make his own cheaper irrigation fittings/manifold out of pvc structure fittings and pvc glue. I don't use Grow More anymore but I still kept a few of his tricks.

Even 1" conduit is a little more than half the cost of a 10' t-post. If you have the money it's better to invest in t posts but even 1/2" conduit will get you through the season if you don't have high winds. Two bucks a stick. It's the difference between $800-$1200 and >$3600 for a 99. I use it as my fence posts, too. For future reference, buy a few extra If you go with 1/2" and you have a lot of rocks. You'll bend a few.

Your plants are going to get huge. T posts are the way to go and an investment that will last you forever too. I gust get a shitload of the 5' ones and then use 10' bamboo and tie wire or zip tie it to the post. You can cut the bamboo to whatever length and then slide it up and down the t post to adjust the height. Once your first cage disappears then start another bigger one. Hopefully by fall your monster plants will swallow up like 4 cages and you won't have any worries if they are supported enough when the rains come . Here's a pic from last sept. Think there are two cages inside these outside ones

I'm confident in what you're building. EMT will hold. Mr. Chocolate has a great opinion and example, but you're already invested. I just want to help you stay confident that what you're building will work.

That bamboo looks great, and works great but I sure have gotten tired if buying it. It does not last long.

If you're doing a lashing project; the wire for tying rebar is sold at hardware joints. That stuff works really good for everything. Wrap the whole reel in ductape and pull from the center of reel to prevent slinky spaghetti magic.

You're killin' it, nice work.
