Consider it a challenge

Consider it a challenge

Remember the Dune movie that was a bit long? Paul had this witch place his hand in a box and told him that it was gonna be very painful. If he pulled his hand out her "Gom Jabbar" (a poison needle) would jab him and he would die.

She said she would find out if Paul was human or animal because his reason would have to triumph over instinct. His mind would have to rule his body.

Can you say that your mind rules your body and that you make the choices rationally or are you saying that you are an animal and cannot quit? If the latter I am sorry but if you have a mind you can win this battle. Think of it as a test of your ability to conquer your desires.

It will be good for more than your health. It will be good for your psyche or spirit too. You probably don't really think your smoking is a good thing. Tobacco is so stupid as it is costly, it stinks and it kills you without any high to speak of in return. What a fuked up addiction.

Why not get a big stash of pot and just go ganga freak for the rest of your life. It's not nearly so bad because you just don't smoke nearly as much when you smoke all pot. I can keep a joint in my hand taking an occasional toke whenever the urge hits and I can live with this. Can you? STOP PROCRASTINATING NOW...GO GET SOME PATCHES AND SOME POT! BOG

Enjoy the really good things life has to offer...don't settle for crap.

420 party in the dam last year...hash and Baclava with hash...:) Life is good enough to forget tobacco...

Thats just wat i do now BOG, smoke joints, "one" can last me hours through the day, if i dont wanna get too stoned ill just have a couple of puffs on it n let it go out tilll i want another hit. Still not as healthy as other methods like vapeing buts its a helluvalot better for u than smoking face tubes all day.
Doing it this way by smoking joints instead has in my honest opinion stopped me from relapsing back to the fags, i doubt i could have done it so easy without the pot as a kind of substitute, but now i can do without both, fags and pot. For example if i go away for a few days without being able to take pot with me or smoke pot where ever im going, i manage quite happily now without that nagging craving u get from tobacco, granted i get that "Damn i could smoke a fatty right now :D " urge for the ganja when i aint had a smoke for a day or 2, but dont all stoners? ;) and besides that to me isnt a problem.
So initially it does sound like i swapped one habit for another but at the end of the day its worked out fine for me. The end justifies the means so to speak...
Hope it does for u lot too :)
I applaud wat u doing here BOG with your motivational posts and offer of some fine genetics as an added incentive along with your posts.
Nice one BOG :D
BTW, may i ask wats in that Balaclava ??? Looks kinda nice, cant decide whether its savoury or sweet though, i got munchies atm though so just about anything looks good.
My missus is a good cook, perhaps ill look for the recipe and get her to make me some, is it really nice BOG? can u explain a little about it maybe please ? :D ?
Later all, Hippo

BOGLava?

BOGLava?

Baclava is yummy shit that i have no idea how to make. That was at the last 420 party at SeedsDirect in Amsterdam last april. We are going to have yummy treat contests this year and it will be much bigger. I want to have some BOGLava made when I arrive there but I need it to be laced with hashish for sure and yummy as hell. BOG ;)

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

i'm still hangin' in there. i had to break down and get some gum though, or else i would be smoking right now. the gum is definetly making it easier, but i know i've got a long way to go still!

funny how you never realize how strongly your addicted 'till you try to quit. then it's total chaos!!

good luck to all trying to quit!

:)

Hey Bog, I can not stop myself from smoking. Ive been taking Zyban for about 5 weeks. I cut back from 2 packs a day to less then 1 pack but I cant seem to stop completely. Ive smoked about 2 packs a day for 12 or so years. My dad had a freaking heart attack last night, he is only 54. I dont want to be in the shape he is in at that age or to have a heart attack to make me stop. Seriously, I would chop off a finger if it would magicly make me stop. Do you have any tricks in your magical bog pouch that could help me stop?

Door #1,2, or 3...or 4

Door #1,2, or 3...or 4

Bake man, Right ON! Dude, you are going to quit that shit? You really mean it? Cross your heart? Hope not to die? ;)

The first door is definatly the hardest one to jimmy open. Just approaching the idea of giving up your addiction is scary. Wanna know why? Because we don't like to fail at that we commit to over and over again. It makes us feel like shitty little worthless crappers when we fail to meet our own goals. People will even avoid setting a goal for fear of failing again. We are our own worst judges.

The Catholics taught me to feel guilty but it is rampant and it causes so many negative behaviors. Never be ashamed of yourself. Don't do that which you don't approve of. Set postive goals and don't ever fail to accomplish your goal. Persevere!!!

Making that firm decision can only be put off so long. Too long and mother nature rips your lungs out. Set a goal this way.

Never say, "I will try". Go tell all your friends that you are quitting, then that you have quit. Commit fully to your goal and don't allow yourself a way out if you fail. Don't consider this an option. I have been married 32 years and this is partially because I committed fully. I also do not consider divorce any more of an option than suicide.

Setting a date ahead of time is a good idea as is cutting down. However, you can just stop today. I recommend the patches but gum is workable too and cheaper. The patches do work best though.

Do I have a magic wand? Green Lantern, do you have a magic green lantern? I doubt it or you wouldn't be asking me for a magic cure. Think of it this way. You have the key to your chains in your pocket. Do you need me to dance a magic dance to pull that key from your pocket and unlock your chain? Or do you require help somehow. OK...here you go then...close your eyes for a few seconds. *BOG spins him around in a stool, blows some cosmic dust in his ear and dances wildly to the devil*

Ok, I did my part. Your demon is now placed in my soul instead of yours and I will kill him there. You must do your part now. God bless your father. Go visit him and tell him that you will quit for him and yourself. Help him know that you love him and that you will do it with him. You and your father are the magic my friend. Love is the answer when human weakness is evident. That's all the time you know. :) Much love to you both...

Stoned Amish is right...most people addicted to tobacco try to quit but fail and then assume they cannot do it. Yes, tobacco is more addictive than heroin. At least opiates have legitimate uses for people in real pain. Tobacco is the most stupid of all addictions. I don't mean tobacco users are stupid though. Just in a rut. BOG

Quit now or die choking...:(

Hey bog, great to see this thread started, I am also an advocate of people quiting cigarettes . They are nothing but poison. Not to mention the fact they are the majority of the people who put massive amounts of cash into keeping our green herb illegal. Why put money in their pockets, and kill yourself at the same time.? makes no sense realy.
I have annoyed more than one of my friends with my anti tobacco sentiment. I remember a day when gypsy couldnt stand my tobacco lecture. that was of course until that forty something year old guy passed away in his apartment. RUde awakening for certain, but a blessing in the end.
Now i can hang out with gypsy anywhere and he's as much of an anti smoker( of cigarettes), as i am.

Puff bubble, or bud, and stay off the poison's people, you don't need it trust me.
Radium 226 is the chemical they spray on tobacco to raise nicotine levels. This chemical when burned turns into polonium 210 and lead 210, Very dangerous radio active nucleaotides. A half life of umpteen thousand years, and a microscopic bur like molecule. Which will stick to your clothes, and be passed on to unsuspecting non smokers. Nice way to kill of your loved ones.
Stay sane, DON"T SMOKE CIGARETTES>

One love

And they call us villians?

And they call us villians?

Thanks for stopping in Bubbleman. The health conscious could smoke clean bubble which is really being vaped even when a flame is used and a water pipe makes it even less harmful.

Gypsy and I managed to quit so anyone can because you know what stubborn guys we all can be. ;) BOG

my mum has smoked for 30 years+, like 40-50 a day and she stopped exactly 10 days ago, im so happy for her and also for myself knowing that she'll be around a bit longer.
She's using the patch and i truly believe that if my mum can give up, virtually anyone can as she liked them face tubes soo much.
Lately she's not been so well and been in the docs quite alot, she had that test where u blow into a tube to test out lung capacity ect.., her doctor said she has the lungs of a non smoker, which is great, seems like she hasn't done too much damage and stopping now can only make life better.
The amount of cash she will save will run into thousands per year so stopping has so many benifits, yet to carry on smoking... well theres no beneift in that watsoever.
My mum doesn't smoke pot regular, just very ocassionally, usually when she's had a drink and someone produces a joint, she recently joked about be giveing her some for certain ailments as a very close friend of hers is a med user who i supply and she's told my mum how much she gets from it as opposed to the doctors meds.
Think ill ask her if she wants me to roll her a bunch of joints, might even get her a vape, wat u reckon guys?
should i wait till she has proven she doesn't want to smoke before offering such a thing?
does she qualify for free seeds BOG?, lol, j/k
im just happy she's stopped :D

Hepatitis A helped me quit...

Hepatitis A helped me quit...

I think I had it easy. I smoked for about 8 years 1-2 packs a day. Tried to quit many times. I actually quit for 4 months once and then started again.

Here's the kicker...

What actually got me to quit was Hepatitis A. It was nasty. I was sick for about 6 months with it. When I finally saw my doctor, about 3 months in, after getting sick everyday, I told him that I couldn't even smoke without getting sick. He knew right away from what I had said that I had Hepatitis A. I got tested and sure enough that was it. He told me it was real common for people who get Hepatitis A to have an aversion to smoking cigs. Not how I would have chosen to quit smoking, but it worked. 4 years cigarette free and counting.

well i must say it is starting to get easier now for me. i haven't smoked since 4-01-04. now i'm having craving less frequently, and when i do i just pop some gum and it hits the spot. ;)

i'm really starting to feel like the weight of tobacco is lifting off me. and i'm hacking up some nasty shit too, but i'm getting better. thanks to you all and some massive joints. i'm sure i can keep it up and stay away from them now.

but like brotha BOG said, you'll be battling it for the rest of your life probably. don't give up!:)

i've decided that after three months of non-smoking i'm going to reward myself with a new 1000w hps. that's what i'm focusing on now instead of cigarettes, and that helps too.

also, if your having problems with keeping your hands busy get yourself a nut and bolt to play with. i'm probably going to wear the threads off mine by the time i'm done!:p

happy non-smoking to all!!!

Hippo's Mom should read this...

Hippo's Mom should read this...

Time to enlighten your Mom. Tell her I am saving some seeds for her and you take care of her until then Hippo. Another convert.

Momma Hippo, I am glad you didn't wait any longer because that might have been too late. You are a very lucky woman because your son loves you so much.

Not many young men post about their mothers online you know. You must understand all the older responcible people working in the medical marijuana movement. I am 50 years old and it took my Bypass operation on my heart to make me quit. :(

People don't have to be that dumb though. The patches and the gum allow you to disconnect from the action. Perhaps a vape would be the best way to make it seem different and to stay healthy without smoking at all. BOG :)

I thank all for their experiences presented here as help...

bubbleman says: " Radium 226 is the chemical they spray on tobacco to raise nicotine levels. This chemical when burned turns into polonium 210 and lead 210".

Right in spirit but wrong in fact. You can't turn one element into another just by heating - that's called alchemy.

The story I heard was that the radionuclides were in the phosphate fertiliser that is used on the baccy crop. The tobacco soaks it up through the roots.

The end result is the same, either way. Smokers are inhaling radioactive isotopes into their lungs and that can't be good for you.

btw, my wife recently gave up using patches - she says they made it a lot easier.

Peace..

dont kid yourself hippo, the patch isnt quitting.. its just transferral to transdermal delivery of nicotine versus traditional methods... hopefully she quits the patch soon too... :)

Bubbleman wasn't talking alchemy

Bubbleman wasn't talking alchemy

Altering molecular structure is done all the time with chemical reactions and this is what he meant. You can change the characteristics of anything radically this way and there certainly is something more dangerous about the cancer sticks pedeled around the world. No biggie anyways because the point is the same.

Quitting smoking is a process and the patches come first. They relieve the addictive urges but they are much better because unlike cigs and the gum the effect is slow with no rush to enjoy. When you have been on the patches a while it is much easier to quit nicotine than cigs cause you have connected the smoking behavior in your head as rewarding.

We must realize that we are animals and that we can trick our bodys and retrain without undue stress if done properly any addiction can be given up eventually. But, it's a process that never ends and there is always another door and another trap to find. :) Good luck to your Mom and love to you son. BOG

re: bubbleman's alchemy,
sorry to be a pedant but radium, polonium and lead are *elements* not *molecules*.

Turning radium into polonium or lead (or any other element, come to that) is not possible using heat alone. This would be like turning base metals into gold - what the ancients called alchemy.

To turn one element into another you need to use nuclear fission or fusion. If this is happening in the cigs that people smoke then they are in even deeper shit than they realised.

If I was not such a fussy bastard I would have let this point go :)

Your point about our being animals is well made - I wish more people realised this.

Thanks for your kind wishes to my son and mom. I don't remember mentioning my mom but I am sure she would be flattered :)

In fact my mom has just recovered from an operation to remove a tumour from her bowel. She has made a full recovery. She still cannot give up the baccy, however. I hesitate to try and turn my mom on to marijuana as she is 71 and rather old fashioned - although the thought has often crossed my mind.

Best wishes to you and yours.

Peace..
