Thanks Gonzo!

Thanks Gonzo!

I thank you for all your good points. Setting goals and staying focused is a most important facet of the whole thing. You are right that the mind has powers greater than people often realize if they just use some method that lets them see progress.

We need to get the help of our friends and familys during these times and when we have that and a clear eye on that brass ring called freedom we can not lose.

You will be successful so don't be afraid to try. I think your post indicates the power of your mind Gonzo. The truth is we are all capable of far more difficult things when it's life and death. And this is. BOG :(

Never was a smoker thought that was one of the stupidest thangs today! I mean atleast cannabis gets you high! So people who are smoking cigs are just like lowering there chance of being on this earth and giving them bad habbits etc. I know many girls who woulden't touch a guy who smokes. So you guys want to get laid don't you? Also, BOG never lets me down on making a interesting thread :).

Ok, i admit, i smoked for 8 Years

Ok, i admit, i smoked for 8 Years

Its no easy task to stop smoking to say the least. I started when i was 15 and finally after many tries have "kicked" the habbit! Like BOG says, tried to slow down a little at a time. When going to work, only take a few cigs with you and leave the pack at home! Same thing at home, get a few out and put the pack up. You really have to limited yourself. Try to lower the number you take with you each day. Its not easy but it works!!! Its helpful when your not smoking to chew some gum or eat a piece of candy! After you stop, you will wonder why in the hell you ever started!!! Plus, you get some free beans from BOG!!!! Good luck to all!!

He swears to me he really hasn't had a puff in over 3 months and that he will never take a puff of tobacco again. I don't want to set a precedent but I made an exception for his late request because he just quit 4-5 months ago. Who knows how long he spent procrastinating while he cut down but whatever works.

I caution people that the "I will quit tomorrow" can go on for years and buying one pack at a time is just more expensive. Many people do that though. ;)

My main thing is that once you quit that you never have any because this has gotten me into trouble so many times. I will always want a cigarette but I try to remember the fear that forced me to quit. You need not have your chest cracked to quit like me I hope. BOG

I can agree with a lot of what Hot Cargo says after all it's a person’s choice in how they lead their life... Everyone has to make their own life choice that’s just life and it should be 100% up to us. IMHO when it's your time to go it's your time to go and nothing in-between is going to change that.

I think it's 100% wrong when you have groups of people and the government involved telling us what we can and cannot do and it's only going to get worse.. No smoking in your car, no smoking in your house, no smoking in public, etc, etc... Many of us also forget that smokers pay a lot of taxes. Where's all that SIN tax money going to come from if all smokers stop? BAHAHA I think it would be funny because other taxes would sky rocket because all that money has to be made up by someone and if the smokers aren't? Who? Maybe alcohol users? Maybe gasoline taxes? Maybe your property taxes? Maybe your sales tax? It's not a good thing really it's not... It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that governments will take that loss and make it up somewhere else and by everybody else...

It only takes one person to mess up a good thing, and why trust anything the government says? After all, they're the same bunch of morons that say weed is so bad and is the gateway drug and all that bs.... I smoke weed, but I don't drink... I decided a long time ago waking up after hitting the herb all day was a hell of a lot easier than hitting the bottle all night and trying to make work the next day...

Now with that being said... Yes, I smoke cigarettes and yes I REALLY HATE THEM... But, I am addicted to them, period. I started out in college with chewing tobacco, that lead to the discovery of growing black and white tissue on the inside of my lip after three years, which scared the piss out of me, so I switched to cigs to stop chewing and have been smoking ever since...

Now, my life has changed dramatically from being a single bachelor to getting married (to a non-smoker who hates smoke!) and now we’re expecting our first child.... Because I want to experience and be there for all of my kids life I can be, my mind tells me I can and I will try my hardest and damndest to stop smoking, not just for my family and friends, but more importantly for my children and myself....

And BOG! I told my wife about your offer and guess what she tells me! Exact words! UHHHHH….. If you quit smoking I’d buy you every kind of weed you ever wanted!!!

:D

Firstly, I just want to say that I'm not trying to blag any seeds ..although it's very decent of you to offer them as an incentive.

Your personal history with smoking certainly qualifies you to start such a thread and your story serves as a scary reminder to us all.

I've been trying to give up - on and off - for a number of years -been smoking between 10 and 20 joints a day/tobacco mixed, or about 20 straights a day - for the longest time.

My attempts so far have resulted in me getting to about 3 days free and then bang! Something will happen, and I'll be back smoking them again. Each failure somehow reinforcing the futility of abstinence.

A few years ago I got wrongly diagnosed as having a serious smoking related illness..vascular disease...!! I was led to believe that if I didn't give up I may only have 5 years or so, before limbs started to go and eventually death. Nice. :D

Anyway, as fucked as it was - to be wrongly diagnosed and to have to walk out of that Doctor's surgery thinking.. that was it, I'm dead unless I quit, it gave me the first kick up the ass that most of us could do with anyhow.

I gave up...quit completely, for about 2 months....no patches, no nothing...just pure fear.

It was amazing, I could breathe again, smell again, taste again.
My atmosphere was less polluted in every way.
I could taste my ganja in pipes and bongs again, taste my food...my beloved food....where had you been food!?!

I fell back into it again :(

It started with a few tobacco joints being passed to me at a party. The rest is history.

Even writing this has made me roll a spliff and begin to smoke....

I suppose the thought of saying right this is it - no more - is enough to make the demons stir.

Being stoned now and trying to write about some kind of honest drive to give up seems a bit lame, but your story has, once again, given me renewed enthusiasm to contemplate it seriously.

Tobacco free was heaven.

No more inexplicable urges to kill myself and to line the pockets of evil empires in doing so.

No more waking up ciggies, after food ciggies, after sex ciggies, after stress ciggies, after joy ciggies, after exercise ciggies, after anything you could think of, ciggies.

No more fucking ciggies!!!

Horrible, evil, habit..what am I thinking to be so hooked on this mindless rubbish?

Tobacco is a demon...just like the worst demons a man could ever have....slowly and unrelentingly killing every one of us..whether you are diagnosed(wrongly) or not, we are just all waiting to be diagnosed.

Waiting for a future of hospital wards and the dreaded "tubes".

I have to be first to concede that "I have been branded a beast at many a feast" and indeed that I am weak in so many ways; but recently, the announcement of a baby being born gives me renewed incentive and urgency to amend my ways.

I am constantly setting psychological traps for myself, not smoking so many at work, trying to exercise, going running, not drinking any booze ever, anything to not smoke, getting my wife to hide ciggies even..?(that's a kind of stupid one when the shop's down the road!).:D

Man, I got it bad... but now is the time..!

Great thread.

I hope you dont misunderstand me

I hope you dont misunderstand me

You may continue to smoke tobacco if you like. I stated anyone may like to grow their own tobacco but why should a gov't protect a company selling poison to be immune from law suits?

It sounds to me like the govt is controlled by corporations and while they are saved from bankrupcy pot is banned and people go to jail for smoking or growing it.

Can you see the problem. People are convinced by high pot prices to smoke tobacco and drink alcohol as a result.

Ted, no one has had a harder time than me with tobacco addiction. It is more addictive than heroin you know. Combining tobacco with pot is a horrible practice that makes it even harder to quit using tobacco. People often rationalize their tobacco usage with pot or hash thinking they aren't addicted to the tobacco but that they just want to get high.

They are actually addicted to the nicotine and other chemicals in cigarette smoke. Cigarettes are the worst form of tobacco IMHO.

I have fallen back once since my bypass so dont feel bad. Quitting can be a lifetime struggle but don't give up because you can be free. BOG :)

hey i just wanted to offer up my battles with nicotine. After smoking for 5 years (i'm 20) i havent had a cigarette for three months. I was rolling my american spirits, having maybe 3-5 a day for long time. finally i said fuck this shit, i cant breath and i become a nervous wreck when i am denied my nicotine. After i quit smoking i picked up the copenhagen, but for only a month. at 10 bucks a can i can easily say fuck that shit. so now i am completely nicotine free and loving it. that shit is the leading cause of pre mature death. and its promoted and sold by mainstream america? what? why? how? it makes no sense!!

Good thread BOG.
I smoked for 10 years until my wife got pregnant. That kinda forced the issue as I did not want to harm the unborn child.
This was about the fifth or sixth time I tried to quit and it was *hard*.

One trick that worked for me was to switch to hand rolled cigs first. Hand rolling lets you make a smaller cig than packet cigs. Also, they go out when you leave them - unlike ready-mades that burn even when you don't suck.

I lapsed once, when my son was about 6 or 7 but quit again after only a few weeks.

My son is now 19 and he does not smoke (not even weed!) and I no longer get the cravings.

I gave up alcohol too in 1995. So now my only "vice" is homegrown weed. This means I have been smoking weed for nearly 30 years. I never have any breathing problems but I'm sure I would have if still smoking tobacco.

BOG is right when he says not to blame yourself - you are a victim not a sinner.

Peace..

We are all saints and sinners...

We are all saints and sinners...

We have our higher and lower selves with the lower self being the beast always wanting, craving, lusting.

And yet we also have a side with higher ideals. A side that reasons instead of being ruled by emotions or the body.

Humans are both mind and animal because we evolved from the jungle. We learned to try things and keep using that which felt good. But. eventually we learned the difference between toxic plants and non toxic plants.

If we could just channel our baser instincts into safer indulgences we would be healthier and happier. Don't settle for less by being a victim of your desires. When something hangs you up you gotta stop it. I have always followed this rule but I fall back too on occasion and I am not ashamed anymore.

Shame is a product of pride. Pride goeth before a fall so don't let your pride make you fail to change your ways. You were wrong to get yourself addicted to tobacco and so now it is your responcibility to deal with your problem. Don't put this off any longer. My offer and my seeds will have a limited supply. ;) BOG

I need to stop smoking as well. Will require a pack of joints a day though to help with the withdrawl. Need to get my BOG genetics ordered and grown before I quit. Damn.
