Can a nitrogen toxicity lockout calcium? I think veg+bloom at 1tsp a gallon was causing a massive nitrogen toxicity for some of my plants as now I'm in the last week of flower and showing signs of a calcium deficiency with signs of a strong nitrogen toxicity

i don't know enough about the nutrient elements to say yes or no to that question , but i'm sure someone will .

but Brain , i think you should invest in a couple meters . PH & EC meters will tell you exactly whats going into your pots as feed .
1tsp in a 5 gallon bucket of RO water is 200tds = .4EC so at a 1tsp per gallon your looking at 1000tds = 1.0EC if your using RO water , if your using tap , add that EC to it too & you could very well be feeding to much .

I have both. Unfortunately I think the signs of toxicity took about two weeks to show up and by that time it was too late.
1 tsp puts me at 1.4 ec
3/4 tsp puts me at 1.0 ec

I ran about 1 tsp for a good two to three weeks and now it's biting me in the ass. I'm day 66 in flower and leaves are green as hell despite me flushing for the past week with straight ro water for the past four days. I'll try and take a pic when I get home. I should have never ran 1tsp/gallon looking back on it - I just have never ran veg+bloom before so didn't know if it was as strong as the 6/9 I've ran before. I'm running 1 galllon pots under t5 lights.

thats low enough of a feed you really shouldn't be having any real problems . is there a chance that the salts have built up in the pots by sitting in the runoff to long or something ??? sounds like that might be your problem if your feeding that low . its really to late to fix it now .... but yeah it sounds like you had a toxic build up of nutes in the catch trays for to long .

it takes at least 2 weeks flush for anything of mine to yellow. when I used veg and bloom I ran 1.2 to 1.4 ec with no problems

That's probably exactly what happened. I just left runoff in the tray and the smart pots would eventually suck it up. I never drained the catch trays - do you think that's my issues? Cuz plants looked great up until two weeks ago. I have very limited space and haven't come up with a system for getting rid of run off. When I had hempy buckets it was much easier because of the sturdiness of the pot, but after switching to smart pots I don't want to move them. Any recommendations on how I can adopt a small drain container under my 4 pots without adding much height (I have a 5 foot tent)?

yup ...... especially with fabric pots !

put each pot in its own tote & cut the sides down or something if you don't want to invest in trays . then just use a buckethead shop vac to suck out the runoff every day . only takes a minute or 2 . i've been doing it that way for years now .

I will be investing in one of these tomorrow great idea and I can't believe i screwed this grow up so bad. Here's a pic of each plant, the gscXloctite looks and smells the best so far

Clear nitrogen toxicity in the third pic and does that look like a calcium deficiency in the first one? I'm getting rust like splotches on the leaves. By the the way this is day 67 of flower. :( I'm sad

just keep feeding them plain water till you get a fade like i get on mine . it may take a week or longer , but you want all the nutrients flushed from the coco so the plant has to feed on itself , that way your not smoking that nutrient build up .
& now ya know what Not to do on the next run ! we learn from our mistakes brutha !!! :tiphat:

yeah it looks like it could have used some Calcium early on in flower . but never run calcium in flower past the halfway point , because that can build up to a toxic level even with the runoff getting taken out . its because of the cation balance in coco .

nobodys perfect brutha !!! even i have a fucked up couple plants this round . the chem91 is a calcium hog & i didn't know it because they looked great in veg , but once they hit flower .... they started looking like shit .

those still look like beauties brother! How do you supplement calcium in your grow room? and are you using RO water like me? thanks!

yeah on the RO water & i'll add calmag if calcium is needed , but i add epsom salts for the second half of flower or if Magnesium is just needed like with GG4 .

what calmag do you use?

Technaflora magical but like Dan has stated you dont nec. need it its an RO formula for a reason but a couple ml per gallon isnt going to hurt and the new directions actually rec. it. Think any decent cal mag will get the job done.

Hey Dans

you start to tailor down the VEG+BLOOM EC starting day 35 for 9 week strain ? or is that too early ?

:thank you:

i leach for 2 weeks & the week before that i fill my 55 gallon rez with half dose nutes . so on a 9 week strain i'd start the half dose rez at or around day 40 . i started doing that because of the foxtails i was getting giving full dose up till the leaching period . & it has helped alot . theres alot of nitrogen in the V&B fer sure .

& yeah Techniflora Calmag & i only give it to strains that need the little extra . I start with 2ml per gallon & thats usually enough . i found other calmag formulas make my PH raise alot faster than the techniflora does . it keeps it pretty steady all week in a 55 gallon rez . I fill it at 5.7 & by the time i need to refill its sitting around 6.1 .

Foooock I got the same thing going on with foxtails. Got way worse when I added that CMH light. Bad thing is I have a perpetual garden and feed out of 1 res so I can't drop the ec like you do at day 40. I might have to go back to 6/9 or try something new, this is fucked cause I really like V+B.

yeah its all the nitrogen in the mix , gotta cut it a little early or the foxtails come out like gang busters .
can you split them up & put the plants on different rez's ? i run perpet too & have 12 plants under 2 lights on the same rez . then 12 more under 2 more lights on the other side of the room on a different rez & 5 weeks later than the others .

Maybe I could, difference is I chop 2 plants and throw a couple more in every week. Still, I could add another 30 gal rez and reduce ec on half the plants. Have to do some figuring out numbers. Thing is I was running V+B for a year before this started happening a lot. Before it was minimal, when I added a CMH it got crazy. I think I got 12 strains or more going and it only foxtails on 1/3 of them. Crazy shit but the buds still look killer. I hate to quit V+B because it's some great stuff when you dial it in. I never go above 1.2-1.3ec and leach the last 2 weeks. Even with 2 week leach some strains never fade:biggrin: I've been taking everything to 70 days just to stay on some sort of schedule. Some strain don't like my schedule I toss it, I got a million more strains to try anyway:biggrin:

I know what ya mean about new strains all the time too ! seems like everytime i get caught up & can run some seeds , somebody sends me a new cut i gotta try lol
just got 2 new ones in the last month

whats up everyone....
quick question...last time i had to order the bloom additive it was still called +Size,
now its called "Shine" ...is everyone still using it the same way/ratios?
i was using 1 gram per gallon.
when it was called +size i was told 1-2 grams a gallon by the dudes at HR but i never went over 1. how are you guys using it?
thanks in advance.
