Big sky country

Back from Montana. I had a great trip, it was really good to see my grandparents again. My girlfriend got to come with, which was awesome because it was her first time on a plane. It was a short trip but I'm really grateful I had the opportunity to take it

Here's my grandpa's cabin on his 1 square mile of farmland. He built it himself from logs he cut on one of the mining claims he owns

He farms alfalfa and a few other things. He has raised cattle, horses and bee's. He was born and raised in Montana and I'm sure will die there too. He's the kind of man that built his life on hard work and is proud of it

So while I was gone my plants only got watered one time and they ended up getting pretty dry. I lost some leaves on the sfv but it still looks pretty healthy. My other plants, however, looked more yellow then before. My soil had never been that dry before so I definitely lost some microbe life.

I already brewed an ACT and and gave it to them but 5 gallons at a time only goes so far. I also asked a question about my tea recipe in the organic soil section but it never got a reply

Is 6 tablespoons of molasses and 2 cups of compost the correct amount for 5 gallons of water?

I went into my local grow store and they recommended top dressing langbeinite(sul po mag) and bat guano for an organic flower feed. I picked some up but am kinda scared to use it because I have no idea what my soil chemistry looks like. Does anyone recommend using these or should I just stick to ACT and water?

Here is the kosher kush. It's the furthest along in flower and the most yellow

Much greener looking sfv. Sorry for the shitty early morning cell phone pics

Take this with a grain of salt as it will most likely fly in the face of what most others will tell you...

But keep up the veg nutes on into flower, I'm talking full strength veg mix through stretch and then maybe transition over to a half and half blend of veg/flower halfway through flower. Then finally go full flower blend on your last couple of weeks of feeding before water only.

I've seen so many people say to cut off veg nutes as soon as you go into flower but I feel that most of those guys are using chemical nutrients and are in for a different schedule than if you are running organic. I have had way too many plants yellow up on my and start dropping fans starting week 4 or so of flower and I'm sick of it so I have switched up how I feed like I just mentioned.

I'm also your worst person to ask about what to feed and how much. On my outside girls I just dump some organic dry ferts mix and water it in. I'll probably do this every two weeks. It's not apathy but merely wanting to keep things as simple as possible. Getting super nerdy and into the anion and cation stoichiometry and talking parts per million goes way over my head and makes growing weed not fun.

Sorry for the tangent, I hoped that helped?

After reading my previous response again I realized I didn't really answer your question.

Yes, feed the plants to green them back up. I would top dress some blood meal but start with smaller amounts at first as it is readily available to the plants and could burn them with too much. With that I would start top dressing some of your P dominant dry amendments via topdress as well and water them in.

Ok so I have some fish hydrosylate, would you use that in place of the bloodmeal? Then I have the 0-8-0 bat guano I can topdress.

What are your thoughts on the sul po mag?

I feel you on not worrying about all the nerdy science stuff, I know you grow great herb without it. It just would be kinda nice to at least have some numbers to look at to make sure something isn't way off

Really appreciate your help bro!

Heya zack! 10mL of black strap should be enough for that amount of tea.

Montana looks epic!

Hey Hemphrey! Thanks for stopping by

I got my ACT recipe from microbeorganics.com

"So if you have 5 gallons you multiply that by 2.38% to get the amount of [vermi]compost to use. Then you can go to; http://www.onlineconversion.com/volume.htm and convert it into any unit of measure which is convenient. In my opinion measuring [vermi]compost by weight is inaccurate because of varying moisture content.

Anyway to proceed we have;

5 x 2.38% = 0.119 of a gallon = 0.476 of a quart = 0.450 of a liter
= 450.5 milliliters [450 rounded] = 1.904 cups [2 cups rounded] - Your choice

Likewise with the use of black strap molasses, a percentage of 0.50% is a good median amount to use."

So isn't .5% of 5 gallons about 6.4 tablespoons??? Or am I way off...

If you are curios about soil testing then check out these threads,

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=326705&page=84

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=329781&page=14

They've been talking a lot about soil testing lately.

The hydrolysate will be good but not as fast acting as bloodmeal. If that's what you have and you don't want to buy anything else then I would apply that to all the ladies, especially the ones that are showing the worst N deficiencies.

Ive definitely been enjoying following foothillfarming's and plantingplants threads. There are so many great threads this year, it's awesome and very informative for everyone. I have a veeery basic understanding of soil testing and have been learning a ton from icmag.

I regret not getting a soil test after mixing mine in the spring. I guess I just thought it was too complicated and expensive. I know both of those are untrue now. However, I think it's probably too late to test this year.
There's always next time though

Any thoughts on my ACT question?

1-2ml is standard per gallon dosage of molasses...brewed until it doesnt smell super sweet

Where are you getting your recipe from? And would you mind sharing the other ingredients?

Did you see my quote from microbeorganics.com? He recommends .5%

So after a trip to Google conversation calculator I got .5% of 5 gallons=18.9 ml or 1.28 tablespoons

This seems way more reasonable. Which means I fucked up my last batch of tea by adding way too much molasses...

Well obviously listen to MM...making act is different from fertigation like I did with it. Careful if you have high Mg though too much molasses can push it higher.

In a way, having a set amount of molasses added to the compost tea doesn't make sense to me. Depending on the type/quality of compost you're using you may want to use less than 10ml/5 gallons of tea...or you might want to use more. From what I understand, the compost you use is more important than anything else. Not saying MM is wrong, but just thinking out loud.

I'd just put in a small amount of molasses at first and see what you get.

If you're thinking about adding fish hydrosolate, I would add it at the end. I added it once and brewed for another 8 hours and my tea went anaerobic on me.

And thanks to hillmizer, shcrews, mendo420, hash zeppelin, biosynthesis, sacramental, eastbaygrower and all the other great ganja farmers out there for taking the time to share your gardens with us!
