actually USA is 632 deaths per million.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/1104709/coronavirus-deaths-worldwide-per-million-inhabitants/

Are you saying the USA had a 'strict' lockdown then ?

it seemed very different state to state and quite patchy the way it has been reported in the UK... with lots of folks following Trump's lead of being quite blase about it.

over here the streets were empty, the whole nation hunkered down, we even stocked up on essential goods. only food shops were open. it was like being in some apocalyptic future.

after 6 weeks they told us all to go back to work using home office where possible and distancing etc. now masks are mandatory in any publicly accessible building. but for the rest people are going about their business again. some times its a bit ironic, in mcdonalds everyone has to wear the mask, until you decide to sit down there and eat, lol. so you have all these maskless people chomping their food 5 meters away from the people at the counter getting take away.

Similar in UK.. but the messaging from the government has been patchy to say the least. Supermarkets were emptied at the start of lockdown.. quite shocking to see your local store's shelves stripped bare. Then they tried to get everyone to go back to the office because the cities were dead and the shops losing trade... then they changed their minds about that.. our testing/ test and trace have been abysmal.
And now so many people have had a taste of life out of the 'rat-race' of commuting to the office, they don't want to go back.. and all the people who were locked down in their city flats with no gardens (they closed many of the parks) now want to move out to the county...

interesting times ...

The US has not had a strict lockdown.
Our national leadership has been too weak to do anything like that.
Some states have mandated more closures than others. Same goes with some cities.
The response here has been extremely piecemeal, depending on local and state leadership.
State governors asked for national leadership and support in the beginning. They were basically laughed at and told to figure it out on their own.

Can anyone explain to me how lockdowns and mask mandates could in anyway be justified if the only country to not participate currently has a lower covid death Rate than the USA?
I’m honestly dumbfounded

America has a much higher ratio of Karen's.

America has a much higher ratio of Karen's.

I din’t understand how a high “karen ratio” effects infections/deaths.
What does effect infection/death numbers is
a) lack of national leadership
b) large groups of ignorant types that ignores basic science/math
c) outside agitators that take advantage of a and b and use politics to divide a country.

Yes, also in the UK, the lack of leadership and lack of a clear message allowed precautions like mask wearing to become a polarized political issue...
Personally it seems obvious that putting a physical barrier between the source of contagion (breath, coughs sneezes) and the outside world .. Or a barrier between the source of infection (the outside world ) and oneself has got to help to at least some extent... plus it stops you touching your face so much which is another risk factor.

the mask thing isnt just Trumps fault in fairness. governments all over the world including the WHO told everyone not to use masks, only medical profesionals should use them. its only in the last months that the messaging from the WHO about masks changed.

remember there was a shortage and they lied to us so medical staff would have enough. now you can get 50 masks for 16 bux here.

agreed, our UK government did the same.

edit: although even our shower of sh1te PM didn't go to the lengths of openly mocking people for wearing masks like Trump did....

Fuck masks. 99% don’t wear them properly so it’s pointless. Hey sheep stay home and hide in the basement. It’s amazing how leftists scream for the gubment to be in charge of everyone’s lives but only if the gubment is doing it from the leftists agenda. Then it’s time to riot.

... and that made perfect sense. Unfortunately, a good portion of folks can't see past their own noses!

In NS there is only the odd individual (mask rebels) around. We also have the numbers to show for it. The premiers have stated last week we have no intention in opening up the "Atlantic bubble" any time soon and, I support that. That being said, Maritimers are community oriented.

Have you seen the pictures of how far a sneeze travels both with and without a mask? Is it perfect? No. Is it better than no mask at all? Yes. Very much.

If someone is infected. It reduces the chance of spreading it to others both directly or off surfaces.

Unfortunately it probably does not do much for people in enclosed areas with poor ventilation. But it still catches some.

had i been in charge, i would have told people the truth, ie there is an emergency and masks need to be prioritized to health care professionals till we can fill the gap. i would not have told people they are no use. this decreased the trust when they changed course. better to ask citizens to be patriotic and make hoarding against the law.

i read that Australia has become a corona police state with actual police check points on the internal roads randomly asking for your Papers please. just like in any third world dictatorship, you get accosted by thugs in uniform while going about your day as best as possible while being unemployed, drinking too much and addicted to antidepressants and sleeping pills thanks to the lock down destroying your ability to pay your bills you are now about to be homeless too. low numbers dead from corona though, so thats good. i just worry about the millions destroyed lives. houses lost, families split, suicides, depression, addiction, preventive medical care and mental health care skipped and so on.

apparently there is even a night time curfew in effect meaning you have to be at home by 20:00. the corona has a watch down under apparently. despite all that, polls show Australians are loving it, if those polls are trustworthy anyway.

It is generally better to be upfront about such things.
People generally are pretty understanding and decent about such things
when given the truth.
Once trust is broken by the use of lies, it is very difficult to rebuild.

when this shit first hit, we were issued papers stating that we were "essential workers" so that if we were stopped, it was catch & release. i kept mine, i'll try to scan & post them...

I saw a test on all different kinds of masks. The 'gator' style and bandanas were just about useless. From there, the masks with exhaust valves had potential to be problematic for others but protecting the wearer.

After that with medical masks, allot has to do with how the mask is worn. My wife is an RN and had to drive 150 miles to attend a class on how to wear a mask. She thought it was stupid but it was paid time and milage....

Yeah, I've definitely been noticing that, more out of state license plates driving up my mountain road than ever before. Got a whole family from Jersey less than a mile away must be 10 of them.

Also heard the schools are having record enrollments because of it. Pretty soon I'm going to have to move to NYC to get away from people. Lol
