European beer isnt really that great..... went to the great british beer festival few years back and didnt like anything there.

lol......used to serve in a real ale pub. We had a good laugh at the Americans drinking proper ale. Taste buds not advanced enough. To watch them after after a few pints of Pedigree was a pastime.

Newcasle Brown & Stella Artois are my beers of choice.

LOL @ the not advanced enough comment.

Find a Dogfish Head IBA, and drink a real brown ale. Newcastle lmao...

Got a Steam Ale going in my Primary right now, and a IPA in my Secondary. Drinking a LOT of FCB's Rocky Mountain IPA.

Double IPAs are my favorite.

STONE(ca), FOUNDERS(mi), SHORTS(mi), DOGFISH HEAD(nh), VICTORY(pa) are the best.

second mentions, SIERRA NEVADA(ca), BELLS(mi), DARK HORSE(mi), DRAGONMEAD(mi), JOLLY PUMPKIN(mi)

Guinness Foreign Extra, not the regular stuff, yellow lablel on this one, more hops and malts, best Irish Beer. Try it you'll love it.

McSorley's Irish Pale Ale(nyc orig.) by Pabst is great cheap beer. $2 pints all day.

check the final absolution by dragonmead, it's high alcohol belgium tripel style. shorts has some crazy flavors, their huma lupalicous is one of the best IPAs around, more hoppy and more clean than most. all the jolly pumpkin (dexter, mi) stuff has exotic yeasty sour flavors, very different stuff, very expensive too. victory has a black ipa that blew my mind called yakima glory.

Am I the only one who thinks Dogfish head 90 sucks? Maybe my palate just isn't there yet. I don't like the style at all.

I much prefer the 60.

The 60 is an IPA and the 90 is a "double IPA" or "Imperial Ale". Being a double, it's going to have more hops (generally leading to more bitter taste) and a higher alcohol content. The modern American IPA is much heavier than traditional IPAs, and an Imperial even moreso. But more isn't necessarily better, it has to be balanced. Everyone's palate and likes/dislikes are different, so just because you didn't prefer it doesn't mean you palate "isn't there". Also, could be an off batch or could be the wrong setting.

It's not one of the very best Imperial/Double IPA's out there though IMHO. I would go for (Stone Brewing) Ruination, or (Russian River) Pliney the Elder. Sierra Nevada makes an Imperial IPA called Torpedo which is pretty decent too and might be easier to find. For me, a dbl IPA is a sipping beer - meant to be well-paced and savored. That's what I mean by setting. I RARELY drink more than one. Too much flavor (and alcohol) going on there for fast drinking. Also, the flavor really starts coming thru as it sits out and warms up close to room temp.
