Bobby knocked me out with the wine, rib-eye and weed..only thing you need to include Bobby is a few dozen oysters in the shell right onto the BBQ. When they crack pour in the melted butter n garlic, I'm on my way Bobby. Hey Reddy1 nice post, interesting. I was a beer salesman for 30 years, introduced a lot of Micros and Imports before they weren't even heard of where I lived..I always went back to Dos XX..but I quit drinkin years ago..miss that Dos though..DD

I kind of doubt that but I didn't begin to start drinking beer until the 90s, I remember Red Hook, Full Sail, Sierra Nevada and Henry Weinhard's when I was first cracking bottles as a troubled youth.

Do you remember what were some of the early popular micro and european varieties? craft beer is really taking off global now, just like it was hundreds of years ago. the recent history is so short. was 1978 the start of it?

I've been involved in the beer hobby/trade since the mid/late 70s. Samuel Smith's was indeed in the for front of the early high end beer markets. I remember thinking that this stuff costs 50 buks a case and thinking that was pretty crazy.. nowadays, it's actually a lower price for a case of high end high quality beers. Domestically, one of the early players was Fritz Maytag and Anchor brewing reviving the style of American Steam Beer and the other varieties they offer from that brewery. It's been a parade of brewerys coming and going over the years. I've actually seen a slump in the micro brewing business where more people failed that succeeded.. now it's more succeed because the desire for people to try everything on the market that appeals to them in one form or another has gone wild. There's a league of people out there that think nothing of 30 to 50 dollars on a single bottle of beer.. if it's something they want to try.. they're gonna spend the money and get it. Anyway.. beer is a fun thing in many ways.. It's stronger than ever..

So is THC123 still being a fucking idiot? Thought so.

Which cellar temp non carbonated Belgian beers do you like THC123? Spell 'em out and I'll hunt them down when I'm there later this year.

I had a nice chat with the head brewer of a small breworks in NZ about Belgian beers...this guy is Swiss but trained in Belgium. Nice guy...nice beer...but he was saying how they tend to really over sugar their beers to get the potency up. And that in a nutshell is my main gripe with the Belgian beers I've tried: too sweet, too carbonated, too strong. Nice to have a small glass...but I enjoy 3or4 pints at the pub and that's hard going and way too sickly.

But like I said THC123...point some out for me to check. Maybe give some short descriptions too so I can see if maybe your taste buds are a bit wonky.

I've said it before......Duvel is my absolute favorite beer ever!!Brewery Ommegang puts out some nice brew too!!:tiphat:

Fritz Maytag of Anchor Brewing is credited, from what I remember, as being the pioneer in the US microbrew market. Sierra Nevada really got it going though. I used to hang out there about 20 years ago and knew one of the assistant brew masters who went on to start his own brewery. I used to get samples of the stuff he was experimenting with for possible new Sierra Nevada brews. Only decent thing Sierra has put out in the past chunk of years is their Torpedo. Their Summerfest is a decent lager though. Pretty sure the guys at Sierra got help from Fritz when they started out.

I'm all about the hops...if a beer I'm drinking doesn't taste like I'm sucking on a hop cone then fohget about it! Hophead to the core!!!

Moylans in Novato CA makes some great beer. With their sister company Marin Brewing they have a wall full of medals. Stone Brewing rocks too. Dock Street back East made some of the best lagers I've had...except for Carlsberg fresh off the boat we used to get from my friend's parents store back in high school...sublime.
