Trump thread part 2 (Or anything else we want to talk about that's ridiculous in politics today)

Our Congress has turned into a battleground.

I can't believe that the citizens support half of the behavior of their legislators.

It seems like Trump really underlined that bullies are the coolest.

They are acting like Patton when Eisenhower would be preferred.
Ahh you see, the citizenry really doesn't. The MAGA faction firmly believes that social media likes = votes. They believe it to their core. So a very small but loud minority, bolstered by bots and foreign agents, can make a pants on head stupid idea seem like a lot of people think chaos is a good idea.

And we have what we have today.

And may I ask WHO was in control of the Senate from 2020 to 2022? You know, the place between the House and the Presidency where the Democrats were in control?

Allow me to answer for you - Mitch McConnell and the GOP.

And guess who sets the agenda for the Senate? The thing were bills are introduced and debated upon and finally voted on? Why that would be the Majority Leader of the Senate, who in 2020 through 2022 was :checksnotes: Mitch McConnell.

Now, final question. In your honest opinion, if the House had brought resolutions to the Senate for student debt relief, federal healthcare reform, and minimum wage increases, would they have passed the Senate that was controlled by the GOP? Or would they have been wasting everybody's time working on something that would have been dead the moment it left the House?
Most people on all sides want those changes. By letting the GOP deny those changes, it would put in stark relief exactly who is standing in the way. People could then vote appropriately when the time comes. That would be functional, not wasted time. Keeping people divided is intentional on both sides.

Who's standing in the way? It's what is standing in the way, but you are on the right track.

Thanks for being the congenial arbitrator.

Just do what? Let the GOP do what they want?

Is that your solution?

The dems of 2020-2022 delivered nothing. No student debt relief, no healthcare, no minimum wage.

I thought that was their entire platform.

The republicans don’t even have a coherent message to not deliver on.

Sad facts are both parties are owned by corporate interests that are way more interested in status quo than any changes to help people. I’m done voting for republicans and democrats.

so who's trying to stand in the way?

This video made me think of a particular passage in the infamous 1990 Marie Brenner Vanity Fair article about Trump

I get why you say that and agree that loooks to be the answer but that's too simple and therefore is only partially the answer. The truth is that in order for a party who controls the House, the Senate and the Executive branch, to be able to push thru their agenda like that requires a bullet proof majority in the House and the Senate. Which is something we've never really seen. Whether deliberately or by accident the voters have always left the party not in control, just enough power to stop such a thing from happening. In that situation, the only way to push things thru is to play with the numbers required to be able to do so such as reducing a required super majority to a simple majority. The Democrats came close to being able to do that in 2020-2022 but it required every Democrat in the senate to be united which we didn''t have thanks to Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema who consistently sided with Republicans when the Democrats tried to push thru the very legislation you say they didn't deliver on. Now it is possible they could play with the required numbers even more in order to make things happen (what is often refered to as the nuclear option) but the political will is lacking to do that because if they did, the minute the Republican's gained control they would exploit it to undo everything and replace it with their own agenda. Which there is some precedent for as demonstrated by when Harry Reid lowered the numbers required to get certain judicial appointments thru and then the next election when the Republicans gain control Mitch McConnel used it (as he warned the Republicans would) to change the balance of the Supreme Court.

Now it could be argued that what holds some of the politicians back from choosing the "nuclear option" is the influence of their corporate masters who seek the influence they have to be able to stop the things they know would happen if one party had too much power. Which is why even in the face of rampent gun violence we can't seem to manage to pass even sensible legislation that is supported even by an overwhelming number of gun owners such as univrsal background checks.

Until the voting public gets united enough to give one party unstoppable power (which will likely never happen because neither party has demonstrated they can be trusted with that much power) then things will continue to go the way they have for our entire lifetimes.

Y'all starting to feel like suckers yet??

“Well, you know, there was no legal mechanism,” the former president said. “I said they’re gonna help fund this wall – but there was no legal mechanism. How do you go to a country and say, ‘By the way, I’m building a wall, hand us a lot of money?'”

Of course not. That would require self reflection and acknowledgement of a mistake.

"Conning people is easy. You just need to overcome their intelligence. Getting people to see that they've been conned is almost impossible because you have to overcome their pride."

There's another option that nobody seems to be considering.

That Donald Trump is really Ashton Kutcher in disguise pulling off the world's most epic episode of Punk'd?

Because that is far more likely than what you're hinting at.
