~30 years ago here, noyd. I was never addicted, though. Seriously. I've had a solid metabolism where most addictions are concerned.
The things mainly gave my hand(s) something to do when I was driving through the night, or when I was too wired on coke or speed to sit still with nothing to keep focused on. Sometimes the same moments as the driving. ;^>)
A great but unhealthy time-filler for anxious moments.
Pure death, though, killing way more persons per year than alcohol, etc.
Now'days I tell my kids and others, "If I'm going to toxify my lungs, I'm going to make damned sure I get a decent buzz out of the deal, and with weed, one joint smoked over the course of a day, with a buzz as the end result, versus 20-40 cigs a day, with no real buzz at all, other than maybe nausea, it's a no-brainer." ;^>)

The brownies last night must've been pretty incredible.
While making phone calls this morning to take care of a variety of business, and writing notes on a note pad in ink, I was uncertain of the spelling of a word, then paused, and waited for the auto-correct to kick in.
Say WHAT??!!
A 'senior moment'? A 'brownie moment'? Too early in the A.M. to be paying bills moment? Maybe just 'a moment.'
The pad never did issue an alternative or correct spelling for the word. Must've been correct, I guess.

That's about what I smoke, plus some hash at the end of the night. This is a few years old, but a study from Emory University found that smoking one joint a day does not effect lung function, even after 20 years.

I've smoked between that amount and 3-5 times that amount, and with a fat joint of potent weed (any where from 17% to 25% thc), I can take 3 to 4 puffs about 5 times/day, and still have a decent roach.
When my Docs listen to my lungs via stethoscope, there's no evidence of any restriction to air flow.
And I finally had a chest x-ray this year, pre-op, as a matter of screening for my spine surgery, and there's nothing negative visible there, other than evidence that I put my shoulders and collar bone(s) through hell over the years.
Dr. John Morgan and Dr. Grinspoon used to state, when combatting the histrionic crowd that liked to holler, "It's not your grand-dad's marijuana any more!!" that smoking more potent cannabis was better, as a person tends to smoke less of it.
