revive the effects of a Haze cutting

From what I've read, the way to preserve "the effect" is to clone the mother, and the father, or short term, clone the mother and freeze pollen from the father. Perhaps the aroma/terpene profile is a major factor in effect. If you had a lot of seeds, I'd plant a lot and cull plants that do not have the same aroma/terpene profile.

In an attempt to revive an effect, if I have 24 seedlings and I'm selecting 6 plants, I'll keep 6 plants with the strongest expression of the preferred aroma.

Haze is a sativa poly hybrid, and Hawaiian Haze is a poly hybrid, it would be much easier identifying and "backing out" traits from a Punto Rojo x Guerrero cross. Using Big Sur Holy Weed, you'd think the purple Mexican sativa traits from the Purple Zacatecas mother would be easy to identify and isolate from the traits of the Afghani father.

BTW, not getting a Punto Rojo male in the first round, I've created the same complex poly genetics, crossing Punto Rojo to three sativa poly hybrids.

Sam kindly dropped some terpene knowledge in another thread I thought would be of interest here, I hope he doesn't mind me reposting.

As I have posted many times I like Limonene, I don't really like what B-Myrcene, A&B-Pinene, Linalool, do to THC although they do make it stronger, in a way I do not like. B-Caryophyllene and Caryophyllene Oxide, Nerolidol, Phytol, Guiaol, Terpinol, do not make THC stronger. They may have minor modulation effects of THC.
Remember this was for recreational testing, not medical uses.
Alpha Bisabolol, Terpineol, Terpinolene, Gamma-Terpinene have been tested and found by others in NLD Haze and the like varieties and they suspect they improve THC the way I like. I do not know yet.

I know there are more terpenes that cause the effects I like, maybe in unique ratios or very small amounts, in unique combinations, but that was beyond my ability to try each ratio, as with just 120 terpenes at different ratios + THC that is millions of different possibilities. And some of the terpenes have not yet been identified.

The future is clear, we need to understand each and every one in every possible combination and ratios, with THC for recreational, and also with the other Cannabinoids for medical users.

I suspect we will find that even some of the terpenes we like have limits, meaning that in small amounts they help in large amounts they can cause problems for smokers. If you test a fresh bud for terpene content, then dry the bud for 2 weeks and test it again, then cure in a paper bag for a month or more and test it at each step you find that 90% of the mono terpenes are lost, yet we still love the taste and effects of the Cannabis, while some fresh live resin with higher terpene contents do bother my throat, I think it is some of the mono terpenes at higher levels that are bothering me?

I like O Haze, Thai, S Indian, and the like.

Time will tell,

Just wanted to post some notes on the terpenes mentioned:

Desirable

Limonene - Citric rind aroma. Oh Yes! Thai Stick had the citric rind aroma. Not sweet.

Piperene - Black pepper aroma. Anti-depression activity and cognitive-enhancing. I detected this in the Thai Sticks that I remember.

Pinene - Pine Scented. Shown to increase alertness and memory retention. My SAGE cures to a spicy/piney/turpentine aroma, after the sweet and woody aromas diminish. Feels like being in the presence of God. Higher mental orbit, and out of body feeling. Very Cerebral. I love it.

Safranal - Woody, medicinal, spicy and camphoreous with a fruity herbal nuance. Antidepressant properties.

Eucalyptol/1,8-Cineole Camphor-minty. Uplifting, noticeably increasing mental and physical energy. Stimulating and thought provoking.

Less Desirable

α-Terpineol has a lilac, citrus or apple blossom to lime odor. Often found in cannabis with high pinene levels. Deeply sedating, may partially account for the couch-lock effects.

Linalool - Floral with a touch of spiciness. (R)-form is more woody. Stress reducer, sedative.

Nerolidol - Floral, apple, rose, green and citrus-like with woody, waxy nuances. Known to produce a sedative effect.

Terpinolene - Smokey or woody odor. A sedative.

B Mycrene - Musky, earthy, fruity, herbal aroma. Sedative. I'm so sick of this. All too common. I'm old and can fall asleep on the couch at any time even without it. LOL.

Greetings,

Some pictures of my garden this year in early flower.

Top of the hill with the Nepalese Jamaican, on the left side foreground, distinctive with its bushy open structure, I believe inherited from the Jamaican side:
picture.php

Next row down with some of the bushiest and most solidly built plants:
picture.php

This one is from the foreground above is a cross between Elvis (Skunk#1 line I think) x some unknown Nor Cal WLD dominant strain:
picture.php

Here it is again in the foreground on the right. You can see in the distance, barely, the super skinny Bangi Haze with the NLD leaves and the open Christmas tree shape that I believe it gets from the Congolese side of its heritage:

More pictures to come soon,

Here is a LA Confidential I'm testing:
picture.php

picture.php

I read people using the phrase "all Indica" in their posts describing LA Con..., and this looks it. But the two most powerful highs I have experienced in the last 10 years were a Thai Skunk, and a LA Confidential. I could not pry that clone of LA Confidential from the person who turned me on to it, but I found a cut from another source. I'm not sure if it is the same or not. I believe this may be part of the Kush or Chem Dawg lineage or something. I can smell the diesel that I smell in Headband, but I also smell the pepper in it most strongly, just like that stuff I smoked. I also read posts about LA Confidential generally that say it has a "clear headed high". I'm willing to try anything that I might be able to add to my stable of early strains that are worthy of making a fine ganja strain ripen earlier without introducing couch-lock.

Along the same line of inquiry, here is Fruity Pebbles:
picture.php

Fruity Pebbles is super sweet smelling and has the overripe fruit smell. Perhaps it has a very slight skunkiness, just barely noticeable. I recently read a post that it is a cross between Tahoe OG and Skunk#1. There may be several lines with the same name, but completely different heritage. We'll see the results, which is all that matters anyway.

More pictures another day...

Thank you for sharing Thai Bliss

I can't decide what one I find more interesting.... Being a narrow leaf fiend but that La Confidential looks very healthy... Little disappointing on the size of fruity pebbles .. I have Orange fruity pebbles that I'm going to try next year and a good supply of Bodhi gear to make some crosses with Aces landraces....

My strains this year are performing well so far .. Proof is after the cure though.

Hi Lacocina,

Don't worry about the Fruity Pebbles based on what you see in my garden. Five of my plants were cuttings including the Fruity Pebbles. They flowered when I put them out in the spring. They had to re-veg and start flowering again to be where they are now. They are all different with regards to flowering start time and flowering length time which affects their re-veg length of time and re-veg start time. So... I will only judge the vigor when I make seeds from them, and grow them from seed.

I like it because of the powerful sweetness and light gold/yellow/green color. There have been some great gold colored strains that I have smoked in the past. I hope it is from Skunk #1 which I know had either Colombian Gold or Acapulco Gold in it, I can't remember which. I think Sam just posted about it, but it is easy to get confused. I think Haze had one of them also.

I'll post a smoke report by next spring.

Speaking of Skunk#1... here is a line that I have been breeding for a very long time. It is a stretch to call it breeding since there have been more outcrossing than line breeding. It has Skunk#1 in it, as well as Purple Asian, Pigweed (the original BEAST), Perky (Thai x Afghani), Seeing God, White Lights, Western Winds, Burmese, and most recently Train-wreck. There is huge variety in these seeds. I have only line bred a few times for a few generations each time. I also did some back crossing a few times. A couple of years ago, I had plants as small as Fruity Pebbles that produced a half pound of buds with a diameter of 4 to 6 inches. Real mold magnets. This plant looks like it might be one of those:

picture.php

^^^ Check out the Bangi Haze in the background on the left side.

Here is a picture of the buds at the top. There are really no "top" buds with this one. All branches look equally as vigorous:
picture.php

^^^ It is a BEAST. The truth is that I did not even take a cutting of this one. I don't like this because of the mold problems. I have changed my philosophy dramatically in the last 15 years.

If this one makes it to completion, it may produce more weight than all the other plants combined, based on some phenos I have seen in the past from these seeds. No exaggeration.

There are other phenotypes from this line with a more open structure and smaller buds. The ones I have seen before with smaller buds also were more resinous. Here is a sister that looks more reasonable with regards to mold resistance. I hope it also more dense in terms of resin coverage:
picture.php

^^^ This is more lemon menthol smelling compared to the lemon skunky smell of the BEAST. At certain angles of light, I can actually see the main stem, which is impossible with the BEAST.

This one that I posted earlier was a male of the same line. It had the crazy serrations:

Finally, the last of the pictures from this weekend. This post is dedicated to finding a Bangi Haze like the first one I grew and smoked. I did not keep a cutting. I never learn! The first one, grown indoors, was the most clear, cerebral, and energetic of them all. The Fat Leaf pheno from last year that I saved seeds from was second best. The other two tasted harsh and were not at the same level of quality. One other was the most potent, by far, but not clear. It was also harsh. I'm really hoping that this one has that clarity and slight trippiness of the first one:

I am being very cutthroat in my descriptions and comparisons within this Bangi Haze line. I'd like to moderate that with the following sentiment. That first Bangi Haze was so good, that I will surely grow the last couple of seeds next year. I did not want to do them all this season for fear of something going wrong. I will also buy another pack if the rest don't meet my expectations. There are individuals in this line that have excellent quality. The earliness is amazing for that type of weed.

All the Best,

Greetings,

My indoor Punto Rojo has been filling in. In the last shots I posted, it had long thin foxtails sprouting out of the tops of the roundish buds. I have them too close to the lights, that stretchy Punto..., and I hid most of the foxtails in my pictures because I thought they were ugly and the result of my not being able to control that plant. Now I wish I had documented those freaky foxtails at their thinnest and most stretchy looking point, because they filled in so well. This elegant lady now has roundish buds with a narrow cone on the top.

Here is a repost of some of the buds from about a week ago:

picture.php

^^^ Notice the stretchy growth at the top left and top slightly left of center. There are also some in the center bottom, but not as extreme as at the top.

Here is a picture of some different buds with the stretchy steeples filling in nicely:
picture.php

It could be partially due to the recent cooler nights around these parts. It should only get cooler and cooler until harvest in about 3 months.

All the Best Tripsters,

I have a new cutting in my collection, Khmer Gold. I did a 17 hour road trip to acquire it, but I did pick up a couple others along the way. Many thanks to my kind and generous friends who shared. It has been a very rough time for this cut. I had two other slips of the same mother, and they both did not survive. This one barely did, and all my cuts are in a fight for their lives due to a bad spider mite infestation. It was such blessing to see the mother plant looking healthy and in full glory. What a sight! I have no doubt that this is pure South East Asian genetics.

I've battled spider mites many times, using many different methods. I don't believe I've ever killed them all off except during wintertime when I can keep the growing room nice and cool. Sometimes I can go 4 or 5 years without any, but I have been bringing in a large number of cuts this year from friends, and from the outside garden. I'm going to have to figure this out because I need to bring in cuts from the garden every summer to be able to select and breed plants that can withstand this climate and finish before the mold or frost season.

Here is the newly acquired Cambodian Khmer Gold:
picture.php

I visited with my friend and patient who was the recipient of almost all of the latest batch of SAGE x Purple Haze Thai. He expounded about how strong and psychedelic it is. He said he ate a 1 inch square brownie from his standard recipe, and said he should have only eaten half of that. He really seems to be impressed by it. I have yet to try that batch. I spent the last few weeks retesting all my Bangi Hazes. When I get to SAGE x Purple Haze Thai, I'll do a detailed smoke report.

Here is a list of my most treasured cuttings, along with what I consider the most likely to be what I'm after in:

SAGE x Purple Haze Thai
SAGE
Cambodian Khmer Gold
Zamal x Thai x Haze
Big Sur Holy Weed
Jamaican Lambsbread
Punto Rojo
Bangi Haze
Maui
Panama Haze
Nepal Jam

Life is Good,

ThaiBliss

T.B.,

about the spider mites in winter, do you keep your grow room empty or what?
With me they keep coming back, no matter how hard I fight them

I do have plants in the winter. I believe the cooler temperatures slow down the metabolism of the mites, and I'm able to get more treatments on them per mite life cycle. The problem is that I cannot treat the plants too frequently or with too high a concentration of treatment product without damaging or killing the plants. The cooler temperature is what gives my treatments the upper hand.

I'm planning to make a croos between an IBL Zamaldelica & an IBL Kali Mist or Destroyer. I have to test the 2 latter. Perhaps I'll make a cross between those 2.
After that I'll cross the result with Purple Haze x Malawi.
Psychedelic energy is the purpose.

Siever,
On paper the Destroyer makes more sense to mate with Zamaldelica as they both share the powerful Meao Thai.
Now, if you can find that freak thai / wheat pheno of Destroyer to hit the Zamal/Thai pheno of Zamaldelica ..... you'd be a deity in my book

I'd rather say that in that case Kali Mist is the better option, because it's easier to have heterozygous effect on the chromosomes. This means that each chromosome on a certain pair of chromosomes has different alleles. This is the reasin why incest is such a bad thing because it creates homozygous chromosomes = same alel on each chromosome. The reason this is bad is because if an alel is bad (for example colorblindness with humans) there is no other alel to counter this bad alel.
On the other hand if an alel is recessif you need the same 2 alels in order to express a certain trait. So I'll definately make both sooner or later.
Anyway, when you say Zamal/Thai pheno, do you mean the pheno with the small buds à la Dr. grinspoon?
