The Search for Trip Weed

Well my excitement of my lil Thai Male has worn off. It turns out he likes to cross dress. :dancer: I noticed a pistil a few days ago, and now all new growth up top is showing more pistils. How unfortunate, but those are the breaks. Ive still got around 14 more seeds to go through. I hope to find a more suitable male next time.

The female continues to stay female and is growing nicely but stretching more than Id like under the Ushio MH. It might be time to go shopping for a new bulb. I did snag a few pics of her just now for us all to enjoy. She's finally beginning to sport 11 fingered leaves. She's so purtttyyyy. I love the look of the 9 bladed leaf in the last picture.

Hey GT... Crazyfool.

Yes, it's been a long haul. It will be the first day of week 27 on Thursday. Judging by the number of fresh pistils, making 30 is going to be no problem. I have one particular branch that is all dead pistils except the tips of about 2 or 3 fox-tails, and it smells so killer good. I can't stand it, because I want to get to a stage where the whole plant smells like that, and be in a big jar or two. The fox-tail that I took pictures of is from that branch. I never got around to smoking it last weekend due to a having to work long hours, getting sick, and a whole bunch of bad stuff happening in my family life. I don't want to have my head thinking about negative things and getting that exaggerated by something that might be trippy. I want to be in a good space when testing something that has taken more than 25 weeks to grow. Besides, it is not really dry yet anyway.

I think I have posted all the pictures in this thread that I have posted in other threads. But, here are a few I like:

In the last picture above, you might be able to see that there are some calyxes near the top that are turning dark in color. I believe it is red color because some of the older and dying blanched calyxes are definitely turning a dark red color. If I find any close to the cabinet door where I can get the camera up to it, I'll take some pictures.

I never did get to try Cambodian Red, as far as I know. From those who seem to know, according to what I read from others on these threads, Cambodian Red was the best strain of all time. I did smoke some small fluffy red buds in the early 80s that were exquisite in character, if not as potent as Thai or Sumatran. Between that and my favorite Colombian, the gold that had red, brown, and green in it, I have come to the conclusion that seeing red color or gold in my buds is likely a very good sign. Funny thing about this plant, those blanched calyxes look whitish in the morning, and start looking a bit orange at the end of the light cycle. If I squint at the end of the day, I can say these buds have both red and gold in them.

When I need a mental boost, I go and smell that one branch because it smell so much like great Thai weed. It is one of the few things that is giving me something to look forward to in this old world.

While trying to wordsmith this post, I see Dave has posted some gorgeous leaf shots from his Gypsy Thai. I particularly like the middle picture. Nice work Dave.

I rather enjoy your pictures as well TB. I bet those buds will be a real treat to smoke in the near future. They look so sticky and yummy. I can't wait to see what this lady smells like in a few months, if she's even at that point lol..who knows what Im really in store for. Ill keep you updated with her. I hope to see some more pics of your thai later on. Especially harvest time..

TB, first time running the senegal, I actually saw snow's senegal but it looks nothing like mine... his own had reddish stalks and didn't seem to branch like mines...my stalks are somewhat red, parts here and there, but his seem to grow without branching if I remember right... anyways, I was off season an received these and like I said was dying to drop a seed.... you might be familiar with the feeling... I always run bubbles but it's christmas season and it will be a security issue to run anything hydro.... stinks too much... don't want the inlaws over and then I look at them and they face is all turned up by the smell.. I'm actually scared to flip the switch out of concern it starts to stick in flower too... we'll see though... All is female except the angola....so we'll see how it goes....

don't remember if this thread has touched on this subject yet, but I'm curious if anyone in "the search" has experimented with the old traditional "cob" technique for curing? If so, did it help/hurt the final effects in comparison with jar curing?

I had another early sample of Bangi Haze, this time the main buds, which aren't perfectly dry yet. I smoked it as a joint, Dutch style with tobacco.

Most obvious thing to note is the potency. Despite the fact that I used a conservative amount I got higher than I've been in quite a while, and a joint usually can't compete with bong hits. The high is very clear and clean, but also very cold - almost clinical. It doesn't have that warm fuzzy blanket type feeling. I am not ashamed to admit I was quite uncomfortable for a while by the combination of potency and effect.

I hope this weed develops some warmth during the cure, if not I think co-smoking it with Zamaldelica might be a good idea. I didn't notice any hints of trippyness in the Bangi by itself, so apart from providing the warm blanket, the Z can provide that as well.

I have another Bangi, a longer flowering phenotype. This was cut down a couple of days ago, along with Destroyer. Samples in a week or two :)

MostlyMe,

Thanks for the very good smoke report. I love it when posters go into enough detail to paint a picture of what the effects are like. This one sounds very different than the one I have tried, which was notable for its clarity, as well as positive vibes, thoughts; feelings, and auditory sensory enhancement. There may be a wide range of effects from individuals in this strain, or timing of harvest could drastically affect the outcome. My indoor one went 9 weeks, I believe.

The way you have described your experiences, makes me hope I find one like that, as well another with the positive happy vibe. I have a half dozen samples from various strains that I'm anxious to try, including my outdoor Bangi Hazes, but I'm currently working long hours and am recovering from a bad cold and bronchitis. I won't be able to trust my sample size if I cough too much or my state of mind due to stress.

Have you ever tried Grapefruit seed extract for your bronchitis ?
$12 a bottle at vitamin/healthfood stores

for me, it wipes it out in 3~4 days where penicillin took 10 days

Thanks for the tip. I have not. Perhaps I will since I seem to have a constant low level allergic reaction to many different things that give me inflammation. I'm currently taking a turmeric concentrate.

Thanks,

Interesting differences. Perhaps there is hope for a richer experience after a good cure. Mine did just about 10 weeks on 11/13. Two identical plants, another one went longer as mentioned.

You need to take tumeric with a compound called piperine or bioperine and on an empty stomach or else it won't be absorbed. Some brands have this additional ingredient, some don't. You can also buy piperine separately.

I have allergies too and stumbled on tumeric/curcumin just recently. It has some promising results in several medical studies.

Day 45 Thai A(f) Update

Day 45 Thai A(f) Update

Well I can't believe its already been 45 days since this lovely lady broke the surface. She has quickly come to tower over the rest of the ladies, so Ive decided its time to tie her down to the scrog net. I hope that'll keep her under control for awhile.. I look forward to running a clone of her in the near future. I should probably get on that soon.

The fan leaves on this lady are huge compared to the Skunk/Haze hybrid Im running(75%sk/25%hz). They'd get even bigger if I introduced HPS to her, but then she'd stretch out o'control.

Ive also changed my cycle to 11.5/12.5 to help accommodate the two thai's. Im still gonna be waiting a long time regardless.

Now a few pics.

Characteristics of trip weed (besides being trip weed)?...

Characteristics of trip weed (besides being trip weed)?...

I was thinking, can we gather some distinctive nuances of trip weed that we have come across?
The most obvious would be that we are looking at sativas for the most part, narrow leafs...

But how about smell, taste, terpenes?
Have we found trip effects more in fruity/mango smelling buds, or more so in tthe leather/woody/spice side end of the spectrum, what about the acrid/poison plant aroma's?

Some of you have noted "cold, clynical" background vibe to some of these strains, but their are also warming and happy ones too.

Some of the characteristics of the high Ive found:

- Trip weed is usually long lasting in effect, I often dont feel like another smoke for many hours after partaking, sometimes for the rest of the day.
With most indica's and hybrids I need constant "top ups".

- It often has a "come down", I guess the higher you go, the harder you fall and I find after a long tripping high I can become very tired. Though there are ones that wear off either with barely a trace, or with a refreshed/glowing feel, these types are rare but one of the ultimate types of weed imo.

- They usually have nice exotic aromas, but also something in the background that makes you think what is that? A strange herb? A mustyness? A tomb like or ancient rot?

Dave - Your Gypsy Thai plants are elegant looking and beautifully grown. Nice job so far.

Rinse - The first thing that comes to my mind about good trip weed is delayed onset of effect, a significant increase in intensity over a period of time, and long duration. There are exceptions of course. I have had and Indica, once, that had a great trippy effect, but had a fast onset and short duration.

Very nice flower structure! some kind of molkai frost x haze i asume, what's the lineage?

As for trippy weed: the trippiest we have atm is the Green Haze x Thai from ACE seeds, quite racy and introspective, causing a shift in the visual perception too, but the inner change is more drastic than the outer change... if that makes any sense, it's late and i'm quite high (vaped some honululu haze, not hazy but i like it a lot)

I don't find myself reaching for the green haze x thai often, i much prefer the more social and euphoric high i get from the red snakes (oaxaca x punto rojo). But the green haze x thai is quite the ride, if you like trippy weed this one is for you!

happy trails fellow travelling souls :)

Thanks for the tip Sideshow. This one is popping up on the radar repeatedly. LowFalutin seems to have found one he likes and compares it to Johnny Blaze which I believe said is the best he has grown. I have some Green Haze x Panama seeds on the way which may be good also, if it is the right Panama. Sounds to me like I would like some of the Panama phenotypes, but not all of them. Some are described as energetic, euphoric, floaty, and long lasting. I like that floaty feeling, which I would characterize as trippy.

Dave - Thanks for all the Gypsy Thai pictures posted here. Much appreciated. Looking good.

DirtBoy - Thanks for posting those gorgeous ripe resinous buds. I'm glad you are crossing Molokai Frost back to Haze, or at least someone is. If you're living in Hawaii, you gota be growing Sativa, or at least mostly Sativa. It's the climate!

My Gypsy Thai x Neville's Haze x Mullumbimby Madness is on the first day of 6 months week 2. It is looking like it is winding down. Starting to have significant areas without white pistils. I'm considering harvesting half, and letting the other half go all the way till there are no white pistils. I'll harvest another foxtail and take some pictures of the resin this weekend before deciding.

Surely you mean to say this plant looks far too healthy to be good!

(MM ducks :D)

I was thinking today, how about a Kali Mist-Zamal cross? That could be very trippy IMO.
