Running solution through unused portions of a container is technically a waste, but if im so worried about saving fertilizer that my plants dont eat good then whats the point?

To each his own as jelly already said.

how do you figure your wasting nutes unless you not feeding the cups ! you still have to feed them no matter what pot its in ! your not using anymore nutrients untill its time to fill the rez . & thats only 1 time , then you only feed to refill .

:dunno:

Jeez man, do I really have to explain to you that a larger container will hold more nutes than a smaller one? :big grin:

I mean wasting in the sense that if you have a seedling in a five gallon bucket, most of the liquid in the rez is going to evaporate before the tiny seedling can intake it and use it. So a smaller container works just as well and uses less nutes, see?

5 gallons is way to much for this type grow anyways , but i get your point . 3 1/2's were the biggest i ever used & you only give enough juice in the first week or so to keep the plant happy , your not filling the bucket right off the bat ! especially in coco , it would smother the young roots . once the roots have grown down into the rez is when you fill the bucket to runoff .

my main point was .... you don't have to do multiple transplants , you can go right into your final bucket if you want to .... it can & has done very well in the final pot !

It's true it can be done your way. My way isn't that different, except I start them out in yogurt cups, hempy style.

Then when they're about two feet tall, and the rootball is about to bust the yogurt cups, you put them in a bigger hempy and let the roots grow into that.

I personally trim the roots at this point, and end up getting a big burst of growth going into flowering stage, as long as you give them a couple weeks at least before putting them into flower.

It's all hempy and it's all good.

Here's what I'm talking about. I would put this same seedling in a solo cup or small hempy until it got at least a few pairs of leaves.

Def got an opinion on that one!

Jelly, how many times are you watering those yogurt cups a day? Gotta be all day with two ft plants!

Every other day, but I look at them every day.

Also, "yogurt cup" might mean different things to different people, this is what I'm talking about.

Oh i see now, thats reasonable. I never would have guessed thats all you really need for volume until trying coco out. At first, yea, i thought you meant single serving cups, like the challenge here (diff story)
