The Official Hempy Bucket Thread

I run coco/perlite in 3 gal pots, rarely had an issue... just add between 3-5ml per gal. of a calmag supplement every time you water. I stop adding it when I go into flower. What ferts are you running?

Guys,

after a lot of "research" into Hydro after one year of "meh" growing organic in soil experience I decided I want to go Hempy. It looks way easier and most importantly A LOT more flexible than "ready systems", like the Wilma system which limits me to certain pot sizes.

However, I am totally new to Hydro!

So after reading a lot about Hempys I had 100L Perlite, 125L (!) Vermiculite and also Coco Coir ordered. Talk about a HUGE ASS package which I had sent to my landlord's office, lol.

To my horror I found the Vermiculite too fine. I first had a 7L bag of Plant!t Vermiculite which looked ideal to me, some chunks as large as 1/2".

THIS vermiculite is hardly more coarse than sand.

My question is, aside from using this bigass 125L bag for seedlings, can I use this fine vermiculite in hempies? I am asking since someone said the fine grade sinks to the bottom and causes root rot. (On the other hand I already ordered coarser vermiculite, grade 3, which will hopefully be the right coarseness). I want it as coarse as the perlite.

I have bought that fine vermiculite by accident before myself. You can go ahead and use it no problem. Go back to the coarser vermiculite when you use up all the fine stuff.

The standard GHE Flora Trio although I just learned that FloraGro and FlorsaMicro is actually all I need.

Another question...now looking forward to Hydro...I started four seedlings in soil two weeks ago. Two of them autos. Is there a safe way to put them into Hydro or should I just start new grows? (I got me rockwool cubes as well).

heh.
Yeah.. fine shit is fine.. course would be better. Perlite floated to the top for me.. but everything was fine.

Transplant into your final hempy buckets and feed appropriately. They'll be good. pH down around 5.8 or 6 (orange-yellow w/ drops for me).

Fine.

heres a quick easy set up thats adaptable to any size grow .
18 gallon rubbermaid tote set inside an auto parts shipping container so the sides don't bulge out when its full . a 296gph pump in it with a seconds on timer from mist king . 1/2 hose from the pump to the tray & its looped in the tray . no dead end line for more even feeding , then 1/4" lines off the 1/2" to hydro halo drip rings on the top of the pot . i suck the runoff out with a small shop vac .

Hey Dan! I was wondering how big those white tubs are that you have your plants growing in? I have a set of hydro halo's that I need to get back in action. My hand is messed up so I have been having a buddy help me, but I should tell him to hook them up lol.

Looks great by the way!

My coco Hempy's that are to be chopped in about another week.

Tall one is a SSSDH by Connoissuer Genetics.

The big one is a Sour Diesel x Casey Jones x OG Chem by CSG as well.

A 1 gallon, and a 5 gallon.

Nope. For some reason it doesn't allow me. I also don't see the button. (Sorry for going off-topic here).

I could slap myself. The last two weeks I bought TONS of really nice, square pots. Also, right size and everything. Of course they all have large drainage holes on the bottom. Now totally worthless for hydro. What I am doing, I am making some trays from aluminum foil to fit inside the pots.

you mean the pots or the trays ? the pots are 3 gallon , the trays are 3 x 3 flood tables . i bought the flood tables to use as catch trays for when i was running coco , but am planning on going to hydro eventually & am starting that now that i'm finally in a basement .

Is it ok to pre-mix GH Nutes (Floragro, Florabloom, Micro etc. ) and use for a few days? I understand that it would be optimal to always mix right before using, but seeing that people use those nutes in hydro tanks for a week or two....common sense says it should be possible to premix them and use for a few days. (I would store them under the sink where it's dark).

Thanks!

Yes, i agree, also would like to know that. My three plants seem to use/take about 7-10 gal/week, depending. I was just thinking about mixing 5 gal at a time from now on.

Can flood and drain be done by hand?
Recirculating reclaim?

i don't use the same nutes as you guys , but i see alot of people using it rez's so i would imagine its fine as long as you check the ph before feeding with it . i mix my V&B for veg in 5 gallon buckets & it takes a couple days to use it all. but the PH fluctuates faster in 5 gallons than it does in bigger containers ..... so check the PH before you feed from it !!!

flood & drain by hand ? Why ? your looking at 36 gallons of water to flood my 3 x 3 tray ..... you really want to do that by hand ? lol

its like 40$ for a pump ,timer , ebb & Flo fittings & a couple short pieces of hose ......

Ok. Right. Im headed that way it looks like. Drain to waste is a lot of work too, but not 36 gallond work.

Where is a good place to get all that stuff? A small flood table to start would be good too.

I have 400w HID, 2 x 4 tent.

any hydro shops near You ??? if not you can buy from the internet , but i'd be wary about getting bigger things like trays & hoods shipped . but smaller stuff i buy from the net all the time .

a washing machine tray or shower pan you can buy at homedepot or lowes & they work good for catch trays . cut down a big tote or whatever , gotta be inventive brutha :tiphat:

Yeah Dan, I meant he 3 x 3 flood trays. Do they make a 4 x 4 flood tray? I'd like to get a 4 x 4 flood tray to go in my 4 x 4 tent to catch all my sloppiness.

I am defs interested to see how that net of yours fills! With the hydro halo's on a timer, how much do you get off those 4 plants?

Thanks
