The growing large plants, outdoors, thread...

Maybe hard to see but where are the micro hairs? When I pull a plant out of the ground I want a fine dust stuck to all the fine hairs. Those thick roots look healthy and vast, but where are the feeder fine roots?

I see the same thing. When you cut the stalk out you see those thick roots that are clean. It is only when you dig further you get that dreadlock dirt adhesion look. I am starting to suspect lower ecs are needed...more nutrient cycling in the microbes.

On veggies with just a .3 ec I get dreadlocks...but I don't exactly get monster veggies either....so, who knows

Can't imagine you can get a solid root system like that without also producing hairs. Those things are pretty delicate, and tend to rip free with a little shake.

Shasta County was devistated by the russet this year. Ive never seen so many healthy plants go bad so fast. They seemed to take hold early september, and they rapidly destroyed huge plants. Ive seen whole gardens turn to shit 30 days from harvest.

The tell tail sign seems to be a rusty taco leaf and buds turning dark brown and failing to mature. It starts at the bottom of the branch and progresses upwards, often leaving just the tip of the cola undamaged.

wondering if any other people got hit? I personally lost 30% to the microscopic bastards.

Preventive sprays and insects go a long way. No russet mites here, or in my country that I have heard. I found one of the most effective applications to fight mites is early lady bugs releases. I like to buy the appropriate amount listed by the lady bug company once about a month in, then again with the onset of flower. I buy the packs with lacewings in them also. A round of praying mantis really helps with cats and larger bugs later in the season. Keep up on neem, BT and spinosad alternating weekly, seems to keep my garden bug free. Healthy plants to start with never hurt anybody either. I would be willing to bet the plants infected had slight deficiencies before the bugs got a hold of the plant.

Do you have any logged information on plant health during the time of infection? Tissue or sap analysis that could hint to where you plants might have let down their guard?

Russet mites seem to be a formidable foe however.

I didnt do any analysis, but the only plants that seemed to wether the russet storm were my chem 4's, and they got a neem/ pyganic (1.4%) spray weekly. I think it definitely helped with the russets. This was also the first year I did not dip clones in avid, and I'm guessing it was a mistake.

Swirskii mites eat russets I have heard. I use them as a preventative against bms. Swirskiis can eat the pollen of castor bean plants so grow some of those with your girls outside and you should have a fresh supply.

Shasta is just mite country. Every year is just as bad last year . Nothing new this year .

I dont think Grassman is going for size, rather, more #'s and a quicker turnover.
If I was greenhousin' it on that scale, thats what I would do.
Smaller, fast flowering plants, with 2 or 3 harvests a year on 1 side,
and longer flowering sativas on the other side, with 1 or 2 harvests a year.
Best of both worlds.
Easy to manage as well.

So funny that you say easy to manage when you have no experience with that scale. There's literally nothing easy about it, great grow grass man
