i got my whole mom room in my flower room now as I have no idea what IM gonna run yet.. Seems the bulk is gonna be DOG, Bubba, ECSD X DC, blue dream, ....got quite a few other things too just not sure how many Im gonna put out.. (blue dragon, Killer queen, Indiana bubblegum, Krush, Legend OG, Straw D, Urkle, GDP, Purple Indica, Kromes White, Trainwreck,) I plan on taking a flat 40-50 clones of each variety and keeping the healthiest ones..

Then transplanting into 100% ocean forest in 5 or 10 gallon air pots or smart pots in a cold frame greenhouse with supplemental lighting for the first 2 weeks to a month. Then going into final containers after culling out more weak plants, Continuing with the supplemental lighting and cold frames till june 1..

She's right. It's been explained to me very convincingly and scientifically (it would be convenient if I could still remember the talking points), but the basic idea is that the "drainage" layer in the bottom effectively raises the water table in the container. You'll be better off (in terms of drainage, aeration, and root capacity) mixing the scoria into your soil and filling your containers with a homogenous mix.

If you haven't made the rock order yet, may I suggest pumice as well as or instead of scoria.

Edit: I remembered why the water table is raised by the addition of a coarse layer on the bottom of a container. It's because of the capillary action of the soil/medium and water's cohesion. The water will be reluctant to flow down into the "drainage" layer because the capillary pull of the soil (with its greater surface area) is stronger than the gravitational flow.

Hey Kanga, I'm hoping that our location further inland will prove to be less prone to moist years and the ensuing mold / fungus issues. We have the Sacramento Valley between us and the coast, and the summers are dry as a bone. We're at 3500 feet, and 40n, so our problems have more to do with cold temps and weakening sun rays. I'm still trying to figure out what's the best kind of herb to grow here. (Thinking indicas in a light dep, as the sun at summer's height is just crystalline madness...) But I like sativa-dominant crosses, since straight sats are outta the question, at least without HID in a greenhouse.

Hi .....Yeah I know that area as well, much like the Humbolt, Nice and dry.
I came across a early maturing Mango Haze that would have gone well for you. very nice smoke as well.
Maybe you could look at a Indica and a reasonable early finishing Sat and do your own cross that works good for U.
Anyway mate I hope you have a great season and dont forget the pics......its so good to be in the off season and still come here and see everyones grow.

only thing i would advise is to add some perlite and some dry amendments. if you don't want to buy a bunch of different things, 5lbs per 100 gallons of something like Age Old Dry Grow will do the trick. Dr Earth and Down to Earth make nice dry mixes as well.

The perlite will allow for better drainage and aeration. As mentioned above, lava rock and pumice can both be used to the same effect.

eatatjoes-june 1st just to be safe(when i'll be planting w/ out supp light). a week before june i'd be comfortable with too if your plants are indoors under 16hr of light and under t5s(being less intense than the sun). always got to be careful though, i had some strains pre flower last season, and they're not worthy of a full season after that, so slowwww to veg. also, indica dom strains seem to be more sensitive to pre flower than sat dom and sat varieties.

edit: shit, if your veg room is already getting cramped you might of jumped the gun on pre-season veg. plants from seed or clone?

I'm pretty sure Nomad used the age old dry fert for his dep last year,not sure if he used it on his full season plants.

Hope all the big plant growers are back at it in full force. I got clones going under hoops with sup light in a few days,been vegging under 600's and some just rooted. Sexed seed plants in 5 gals got a bit of frost bite after a light snowfall and 2 hard frosts but new growth is already a shiny waxy green. New seedlings being put into 1 gals and going out under the hoop in a few days.
Building an interesting custom amended soil mix,should be ordered over next few days. Got all my smart pots,and am starting to turn beds. Lot's to do. Hope everyone's busy and doing great.

Also,anyone heard from ROOTWISE? Hope he's ok.

Thanks Butte, I'm growing from seed luckily. I had to top them last week, I might just have to put them out early and wrap christmas lights around them.

eatatjoes-they've shown sex already i'm assuming. yeah, it's a perfect time to take cuttings of those seed plants/mothers. i'd be into that, rather than prematurely throwing em outdoors because of lack of space. unless you can set up a reliable supp light.

2 weeks to root, 4-5 weeks to veg until june 1st, you'd have some nice sized pre vegged starts in 5gals by then... just an alternative. but either way...

They haven't sexed yet,but two of them are Headband S1 so probably female and the others are sativa leaning and are being slow to sex. I might go with your idea and make some cuts before they outgrow the tent. Thanks again

That Mango Haze sounds nice, Kanga, might have to look into that.

I did get a pack of Tom Hill's DC/Haze f2 seeds, we'll see what comes out of that. Five of 'em got macked by a mouse, one succumbed to grower error. The remaining four are showing some really nice mixing of broad and narrow leaf traits.

butte, tg, anyone? im trying to mix and get my soil cooking but my local garden shop only has extremley fine grind bone meal and fish bone meal does anyone know if it would be ok to use the fish bone meal with the same application rate as regular steamed bone meal from what i understand fish bone meal has a very similar realease rate as regular steamed bone meal, but i would like to confirm this with one of the many organic gurus here if possible any feed back is appreciated thanks
