thanks for the advice guys gonna look into pumice, lava and perlite options.. Any of you guys had a visit from cal fire yet?

I have a large multi parcel site and apparetly its illegal to clear any trees on something thats considered timber land unless you file a conversion permit. Any of you guys had to deal with this?

If your place is a TPZ and you did not get a permit Cal Fire and the USFS will be up your ass.

You can attempt to get your place rezoned. TPZ can not be built on or used for any type of agriculture use at least here in Trinity County. All you can do with them is commercial logging. It also isn't the property owners responsibility to tell you things, it is on you to do a title search , look at county records etc., when you buy a piece of land. On the other hand, if you have a stand of lodge pole pines I will buy 'em :)

you can get an exception for a 3 acres conversion per parcel with only one owners name used as an exception per parcel.

It costs 600-2000 depending on the forester you use...If anyone cares once i finish jumping through all the hoops ill let you know how to do it. As of now with what the Cal Fire guy said when he was at the property all i have to do is get the conversion and designate a home site for a cabin. Get him to look around the property and sign off and IM good.. bad thing is.. its take around 2 weeks or 10 business days.

Yes soga Let us know how it works out. Very interested. I remember hearing a public service announcement in humboldt about your options on TPZ zone. I think it will be fine

it will all be fine. I am sure that the substitution of one brand of chicken shit over another with slightly different numbers will make almost no difference to your success. Vastly simpler soil mixes with 2-3 ingredients do just fine in the right hands.

In the end, its the grower's skill and connection to his plants that will win the day.

I know a guy who makes his soil mix from horse shit and oak leaves. Full stop. note: he kills it. What he has is a deep connection with the garden, the horses he rides to it, the oaks that surround it...

Horse shit makes them blow up. There is a cat on the out door forum "Mantoid" who is doing a green house in these layer beds that end up being 50% horse 50% green waste compost and he killed too. Makes me want to find some year+ old horse manure that is dry for my beds..

the acre on the other side of the fence from me is an enclosure for horses. They horses are only there for May and June while the grass gets taller in the neighbors pasture. So the manure is a good year old by this time of year. When it rains, the runoff floods over my whole garden spreading a compost tea. I can also mine aged manure from a couple of places along the fenceline and grab as much as i want from the piles in their pasture. We used it to build the soil in our veggie garden the first year here, but maybe I'll use it a bit more of it on the ganja this year.

The Horse shit probably doesnt have hormones in it either. It works real good. We did a grow in 81 that was old horse shit, loam, and compost. It kicked ass. The stables closed years ago, or I would probably still be using it. Also, Organic Turkey manure is some of the best shit ever, if you can find it.

we are actually gonna downsize a few plants and make sure that we are ready if they come again later with other agencies.

Got 32 scripts of local patients and gonna go ahead and form a non profit coop. But you are right TG.. we all feel we may get another visit from the "folks" But so far CAL Fire has been uber cool to us and helped up get all the things done correctly.. They were more concerned that we were selling firewood for profit and it was super hard for him to wrap his head around that we were droppin and acre of timber and not burning the wood or selling it.

hey got a water question are you guys worrying about water temps a bunch my well water out of the tap is anywhere from 50 to 60 degrees never less than that should i do something to get the temps up if its in the low 50's? anyone's feed back would be appreciated thanks.
