Welcome Back!!! Day 46 Tangerine

Welcome Back!!! Day 46 Tangerine

Holy Shit did I miss this place! I've been jones'n to post for weeks now.

Mr GreenJeans - I remember seeing that movie, and actually have a copy of it. I don't remember that part however, I'll have to watch it again.

packn2puff - Camping was perfect...though it seems so long ago now. The weather that week was amazing and we havn't seen such pretty weather since. I surprised some camping neighbours with Hempstar and let's just say everyone was early to bed that night. Fortunately for me the dog stayed outta trouble this time...just wet dog smell for the ride home.

Well...I'm just gonna skip the day 30 pics and go right into day 40. On day 46 now so day 50 pics won't be far behind.

Tangerine-A -

Tangerine-A seems to be the runtier out of the 2. It's in the same soil I grew Passion #1 in last time. So..I'm wondering if there is something to that. I can't wait to amend my soil problems after this grow is done. Plus I just noticed I was starting to get a Fungus Gnat infestation. Going to pick up some sticky pads in the morning. Need more drainage. Going to let them dry out for a few days, let the sticky pads take care of the adult gnats, then a lil hydrogen peroxide and water mix to kill the larvae.

Tangerine-B -

Tangerine-B is working on a nice fat cola. Both plants have nice frost production. Yield will be limited because I didn't let them Veg/Stretch enough. Both plants are about 45cm(17") in height. I wanted to try and stay under 90cm. I over did it. Next plants to be flowered will be vegged under the MH conversion for at least a week to let them establish a new root system in those bigger buckets.

Hempstar - The re-veg is going well now. I was nervous for a bit a few weeks ago, but the greeness is all coming back strong. I guess I should take a pic for comparison...but you'll see her soon enough. She'll be back in the flower room in an estimated 2 weeks when Tangerines are done. It took at least 6 weeks before she started showing vegetive vigor again.
As for the Hempstar bud...what's left has been cured for over 5 weeks now. The cure didn't seem to make much difference on the Hempstar. It burned clean to a white ash, tasted smooth, and was equally as potent right off the hanger. I fear I'll be running out this week.

Clones - I intially took five cuttings off the plants. 3 from B and 2 from A. I must have cut them too small. I gifted 2, found a spot for the other 2 outside (which prolly didn't make it). The one I have in the veg box is just finally showing new growth. Next time I'll take bigger cuttings. I hope she's ready to flower in 2-3 weeks.

Hope you are enjoying the return of the site...I look forward to hearing from you all again

Hiya TML!

Boy things look good in here! The girls didn't suffer while you were away, they look gorgeous. I really like the structure on your tangerines.

Congrats on your reveg. You're on your way. I can see it now, mini field of hempstars... field of dreams... yumm.

Day 48...Crazy Fungus Gnats

Day 48...Crazy Fungus Gnats

Nice to see everyone back and posting.

The Budfather - Great to hear from you again, glad you find my ladies attractive. I hope they smoke as good as they look as I havn't got a good whiff of their shtank yet. They seem completely scentless even when shaken.

Mr GreenJeans - That style of LST seems to work perfect for these plants. I just wish I would have got a chance to veg longer, I'm sure I'll be amazed at what cola twice that height would yield. I kept a Tange-B clone for the next round. Hempstar re-veg will be great, I left 4 stems for the new shoots to grow from, she is going to be amazingly bushy.

packn2puff - Thanks eh.
My car still smells like wet dog...mmmm....reminds me of camping every day I hafta drive to work (thats my excuse for not cleaning it).

I think I got the fungus gnat situation under control. Instead of sticky pads I used potato peelings...let them flock to it...then smashed the little bastards. I havn't watered in 4 days now, noticed the infestation 3 days ago. Hoping I got all the adults now, most of the larvae shouldn't have survived the 4 day drought (unless they are feasting on my roots)..but to be safe, if I find no more adults tommorrow I'll give them the water + hydrogen peroxide treatment. Although the problem seems to be relagated to Tangerine-A bucket. Tangerine-B had very few when I gently raked the soil. Anyone else have some tips or experience with these little bastards...please add your 2 cents.

That'll teach me for using cheap soil. Also I need more drainage in my buckets. I forgot to drill holes in them before I started this grow :yoinks: so that will be mission #1 before I start my next grow. Guess I invited the fungus gnats. I plan on making a very nice mix consisting of Seaweed Soil, Shrimp Soil, Dolomite Lime, Bone Meal, Worm Castings, Vermiculite, and lots and lots of Perlite for the next grow.

RH is waayyy through the roof right now. 68-70% constant. I have no dehumidifier and extra venting doesn't seem to help bring it down. I've been opening the door and blowing out the room with a fan for extra time each day, but it doesn't seem to help. Anyone have any solutions without having to spend $200 on a dehumidifier?

Hiya TML
For high humidity, a lot of air movement in the cab helps, I have a 6 inch fan mounted in the upper back corner of the cab, and have it pointed diagonally toward the opposite front corner and down a few degrees. With the doors closed the air really spirals around.

Also, how much room do you have to increase temperature? If you can increase temp a few degrees the RH will also drop.

Forget the ultra cheap $20 dehumidifiers, I've tried 'em and they're not enough for a grow cab IMO, although they work great for a small clothes closet...

For the gnats, you can also get some diatomaceous earth and sprinkle some on the top of the soil and work it in with a fork, or mix a tablespoon in a quart of water and pour it in. It's like a death ray for bugs in or on the soil.

Not too much longer and you will be tasting the fruit of your labors!

Thanks for the advice MGJ

I added a second fan in there to help circulate better. I decided against the space heater...although it would probably help immensely, I just couldn't swallow the cost of running a 900W heater all day. I left the door open for a good 1/2 hour today with one fan circulating and one fan exhausting. It didn't seem to make much of a difference. Looks like I'll hafta suck it up and find a deal on a good dehumidifier. I wish I could even find one for under $200.
Good call on the diatomaceous earth. Looks like a nice natural way to take care of the situation, just gotta find some. Not much around here in plant care stores, I pretty much hafta rely on Home Hardware type stores.

The Fungus Gnat adult population was pretty much non-existent today, the very few I rustled up out of the soil were killed on site. I still havn't watered, but like I said, my buckets are huge and have no drainage, so I'm sure anything under the first 3-5cm of soil is still nice and moist.

Day 50 pics will be upon us soon...can't seem to estimate when these ladies will be done, I havn't even checked trichs yet. For estimated 8 week harvest plants, I'd say these are probably going to be a little late. Sometime after day 60 would be a good guess.

Check ebay, you can find some bargains on 50-65 pint dehumidifiers. You can definitely find one considerably under $200.

Instead of a space heater, just use a 40-75 watt incandescent lamp - of course rig it so it doesn't light up the cab.... A setup like one of the DIY sulfur burners would probably work ok.

I can find the diatomaceous earth at Ace Hardware and Home Depot, so maybe you'll be able to find some.

As far as development, they may suprise you the last couple weeks. I know I'm still surprised end of each harvest how much weight the plants pack on...

Day 51 - Day 50 Pics

Day 51 - Day 50 Pics

Almost through another grow. They are starting to go by a little quicker now as I grow more patience for them.

MGJ - Thanks for all your advice, you've been more than helpfull. I been keeping an eye out on e-bay. Some decent prices, can't have it shipped from the US tho...shipping is just ridiculous, would be better off to buy brand new or find a Canadian seller (which shipping is still pricey). I found a decent deal on a 15 pint here, but I don't wanna be changing the bucket 3 times a day.
Unfortunately my mission yesterday failed miserably and I came home empty handed when out looking for demhumidifiers and diatomaceous earth. I've been circulating so much air in there...I hope that's enough to keep the plants happy.

Well...heres the Day 50 Shots..

Tangerine-A -

I really gotta gas that soil. I'm wondering if that soil is the whole reason for ruining 2 good harvests now. Passion # 1 and Tange-a both showed the same kind of decline in growth and then started putting on little leaves. Tange-A made it a little farther and thicker than P#1 at least, but still disapointing nevertheless.

Tangerine-B -

Pack'n on some nice weight

^ How come everytime I show it they say "Well...it's not as big as you said it was...but I guess it's average"

^^ This is the best bud pic I think I've ever taken. Didn't even know my camera was capable of such clarity. I wish I woulda held it up a few mm higher though.

^^^ a few nice shots

Looks to me like you'll be seeing day 60 pics before you see harvest pics.

Hemptar re-veg and Tange-B clone shots are coming soon as they get ready to invade the flower room. Much work to do before then.

Well TML16 since there is just a few days left..you can pour sand on the top soil..that will stop the larvae..
stickies to catch the adults and a wet dry vac for fun sucking up the little bastards..just don't suck in a branch..
potato chunks will draw the larvae up as well..like you're doing..
Nice Christmas trees..feel like I should sing a carol or something..

MISSINGSON - Nice to see someone new around. Thanks for your compliments. Stop by any time.

packn2puff - The potato chunks worked good, but I had to manually kill...I'm no executioner. So I did buy some sticky strips. I also dumped out the top dry layer of soil and tossed the soil outside. I did that by gently raking and simply dumping, I didn't disturb any surface roots. I should have killed most of the larvae with my hydrogen peroxide mix the other day, but I was also reading that cinnamon is another way to get rid of them, so I sprinkled a nice little layer of cinnamon down. I'm really still in search of the diatomaceous earth though and I'm going to take a little drive today to better look for supplies for more garden aides. I still need worm castings and a dehumidifier too. Thanks for the tip...if I'm unsuccessful in finding the diatomaceous earth today I will be using sand.
Break out the ornaments...X-Mas is coming early this year! HOHOHO :woohoo:

TML - you're wasting those potato chunks brimming with fresh organic larvae goodness? Hey man, put some oil up on the fryer and let's deep fry some treats :pointlaug

Give 'em the ole sandy beach treatment, bury those suckers!

The plants are so close now, they're nearly unstoppable. Pics look great!

Anyone for herb wedge fries?

Anyone for herb wedge fries?

Day 53...Been so busy. Havn't had time to take shots of Hempstar re-veg or Tange-B clone yet, I'll get at it soon. It will be a nice pace changer on day 55 or so.

Radneo - Thanks for stoppin in man, by the looks of your plants and other OB or Cali-O growers it seems my plants favour their Chronic side of the family. Though there is a few traits i noticed familiar in the fans. Last couple days have been great bud growth, hope they continue the spurt.

MGJ - I think I got the problem under control now. Didn't see much activity today and they seem to have disappeared. Should be another 7-10 days to harvest if I had to guess. First trichrome check should them clouding in well. I can't wait to taste as they've yet to give me a hint of their perfume...almost scentless plants even when disturbed.
Fried up those potato chunks like you recommended :yummy: Thanks...Now I got perlite stuck in my teeth!

Lets all make it through the week safely

Those traps are pretty sticky pn2p, I changed mine yesterday, so I can see if there's any possible sign of the little bastards today...but I think I'm in the clear. I'm wishing I would have saved all the gnat carcass now seeing as you guys might have had some good recipes. I didn't know you guys were gourmonds.

I'm starting to think those little bastards come sold with some of the cheaper mixes. They may have been what ruined my Passion #1 harvest as well.

I'm sure my teeth will be fine MGJ, maybe just a bad reaction. I have a really good dentist...he's from England.

I believe it is where it truely begins, because I'm finally learning how to grow my own. With Hempstar and Tangerine-B clone up for the next round...you better believe theres gonna be a change in the yield count.

No chop yet...I believe it's day 59. Little drunk at the time.
Had a party weekend (like every weekend being a musician). Been lazy and slow on the pic taking. Day 60 pics aren't far off now.

Leaves are yellowing away and the buds are gettin nice and fat. Tange-B is puttin on a good show towards her last remaining days.

Seems Taqnge-B clone aned Hempstar re-veg are going to need a little more veg time. So they will be put under the MH conversion for a week or so in the flower room. I keep saying I'll get around to taking pics of them, but you know how life is.

Excited about my new soil mix and raring to give'er a go. I was reading the soil bag to the Bio-Max soil I bought. It contains Chicken, Cow, and Shrimp manure (did you know shrimp shat?) also already PHed with d lime. Also contains seaweed/kelp, should be a nice mix with the worm castings, perlite (lots), vermiculite, and bone meal. Should sprinkle a bit of epsom salts in there too for good luck. Been using urine to veg (shut up if you can't handle it), and continue with my Fish Ferts and Terracycle regimen.

Harvest is so close....I can't wait to give you all the smoke report.
