The DEFINITIVE OG Kush History

Okay. Lot to unpack there. Great post.

So I have a question pertaining to one of my projects.

I’ve had to have run over 2,000 s1 JDOG seeds in the years since it’s been around. Very VERY familiar with the genepool and how it behaves, expresses etc....

That lemon pledge furniture polish pheno pops up maybe 1:800-1000. Proof being a cut that was mislabeled or deliberately passed off as skywalker in the early 2ks in south Los Angeles county. I’ve had only two plants with this trait over the years out of the s1 seed I’ve made. Both are not around anymore.

If I was to find this trait again I should bx that back to the JDOG, which should potentially give me more plants with that trait in the progeny of that cross? I completely understand breeding but am not very good at remembering the lingo and putting what I am trying to say into words.

One foot into the science, one foot into the stoner science till I die Hahahaha.

Its not homogenous , with out the true daddy to the line you can only home in on a trait , after a lot of work , , Unless you can find a male with enough traits related to line to re work , "ie" rare dankness and Cali Connect Tahoe ,
no matter what you'll get something slightly forgiven to the line ...

SFV , Diablo , Fire , Larry , Ghost , S1's all will produce real OG in there off spring , some of the others won't cause there something else added messing with the frequency Tahoe , Hells , OGer , SAC , etc

Let people Squak , just grow them out find out for your self ....

Despite the thread-title, there's apparently no definite knowledge about the origins of OG Kush. So the best thing one can do in this respect is to stick to the most plausible story that has been webbed around it - and that seems to be the Berger/JoshD/Orgnkid/Ghost-story. At least it's the most corroborated one with the least amount of holes in it.

What JetLife175 did, is not to come up with new information but to gather the information that's floating around into one thread to paint a comparatively consistant as well as coherent picture.
So, yeah, this thread is probably as credible as it get's

I'm scratching my head over one thing. Did Berger, JoshD and Emery pick up the 3 different clones on a trip to Florida as stated on og podcast by Berger ? 1 being Og kush 1 Bubba Kush and the other that got dumped ?

Never heard of Emery being in the equation. There were a few things brought back. The OG, bubba (NL) and a cut they called KY was in that batch of cuts.

Bubba kush wasn’t accidentally made until the OG came to Los Angeles. Silverlake, CA was where it was born 1995-96ish. First bubba kush run was in 96.

Those clones were kept by Berger and crew in Gainesville. Josh and Matt are friends and Josh convinced Matt to bring the cuts out and do the medical thing in Cali.

been getting some good stuff recently, triangle kush and headband live crystals, real similar nose, both have that rotting halitosis funk, the headband having more of a fresh can of tennis balls edge, the triangle being similar but more of a smooth kush tone, the headband tested 12% higher, pretty similar high really there are probably people out there that wouldn't be able to tell them apart, the triangle being maybe a bit more chill and in the body

@Cannavore - Diablo OG goes back to the old Devil's Harvest crew. I saw her in a room in Chicago and she looked to be more like what people call the Skywalker now.

Yeah diablo is a solid one. Originally came from Reseda Discount Caregivers in the Los Angeles area. DHk got it somehow and they spread it far and wide. It’s either a ghost s1 or supposedly a cross of OG and a strain named diablo which isn’t very popular but it’s supposed to be a BB x GF x African Sativa. I don’t know how much truth there is to the latter but it is what it is I guess.


And frank yeah the diablo and the Skywalker are kinda similar. I guess they can both be loosely classified as “Sativa OGs”. I can see how there would be a mix up.
I haven’t seen diablo in a really long time though. I gotta go looking for some fire flowers now. Lol.

I’m trying to compile a list of legitimate OG cuttings that came on the scene let’s say before 2008 or so give or take. I feel by 08 the majority of the legit OG cuts were already on the scene. It got way murkier after that.

I’ll start off by naming a few and if anyone can think of any I’m missing please chime in. Some will be renames obviously but I’m trying to get a representation of what was around name wise in that era.

What? OG18 was from 40 OGs1 seeds gifted by Breeder Steve. Karma's Bear OG was selected from that same 40.

The pack of reserva privada og I purchased in 2009 said OG kush on the outside of the pack. It said Chem 92 s1 (aka skunk va) on the inside of the pack. And the deacription of the og18 at the time suggested that it was a pheno selected from the s1's.

Dont forget the True OG! Was used in a lot of DNA's breeding back in the day and helped create OG18.

I've grown almost 5 or 6 different cuts of OG, she is my favorite

True OG I don’t have much info on. From what I know it came from Elemental Wellness (Elemental Seeds) and has zero to do with DNA or OG18.

Dank Frank has it on the head regarding the breeding and parentage of OG18. Just a OG s1. Which OG is unknown but since they were from breeder Steve I can only imagine it being one of the early OGs.

It was SFV cut. That's the only OG cut he worked with back then. I grew his SFV OG x Blue Sat.
