You're either not paying attention or purposefully being obtuse. I at no point said that seeded pot was unequivocally better than seedless pot to smoke, I said that some would argue that certain aspects to seeded bud are superior to seedless. For example, some folks say that herb with seeds taken to full maturity has a more complex, "complete," and multi-faceted high than the same herb grown without seeds. There are obvious negatives to seeded bud as well, not the point I'm making here. I'm also not sure I necessarily agree with these people, but I can't say for certain so I entertain their ideas equally.

I would suggest that you not assume that you know everything there is to know and do some reading, you might learn something.

I have smoked several seeded plants over the years from my breeding stock . Pain in the ass sorting the beans out but that`s what my GF likes to do . Had some very potent smoke .

Anybody ever actually do the research yourself?

I'm betting that 'reefer' was also called Mary Jane back in the day and the Mexican growers and smugglers picked it up and called it Mary Jane in Spanish- Mari Juana.?

Anslinger and Hearst and them just used the vernacular of the day.

Just one man's opinion.

Isn't it pathetic that, with all the problems facing this world in general and us personally, people have time to sit around and argue about such insignificant shit? Who gives a fuck what the plant is called? I happen to like the name marijuana, which has a specific purpose in naming the dried flowers of the cannabis plant. We live in a society full of assholes who try to control others using language. In your mind "they" have defined marijuana to mean something bad, so now it's imperative for "us" to use a different word to distinguish ourselves. That's retarded. Don't give them control over you, and don't try to control me. Use the word you like, and let me use the word I like. MARIJUANA

You can call it anything you want. No one cares. If you prefer to speak in Spanish, and use slang, that's your prerogative. No one's telling you not to use Spanish slang if you prefer. It's just not the universally used scientific name, which is Cannabis only. There are a hundred different colloquial/slang terms for Cannabis in many different languages. In Portuguese, it's maconha. The only people trying to control you are those who used the term you love to demonize it, and they succeeded.

Scientific Name(s): Cannabis sativa L. More than a dozen other species names have been used to describe marijuana. Family: Cannabaceae.

Common Name(s):A variety of common names have been attributed to the plant. There are, however, specific terms for the various plant parts and extracts. These include: anascha and kif (resinous material and flowering tops mixed with the leaves); banji , hemp , cannabis , shesha , dimba , dagga , suma , vingory , and machona (entire plant); bhang and sawi (dried mature leaves); charas (resinous material); ganga (flowering tops); hashish and esrar (resinous material with flowering tops); and marijuana or marihuana (leaves and flowering tops)

I'm an old guy, 69, and even back in the day when I started toking in the mid '60s no one actually said the word, marijuana, except in a kind of mocking way. I've never used the term. It used to always be grass or pot, plain and simple.

I love the diversity of names from around the globe but when I testify next year before a legislative committee on a legalization bill I will call the venerable weed, Cannabis.

I gotta go with what Willy said 400 years ago " What's in a name? That which we call a rose. By any another name would smell as sweet."

Yes, especially when talking legislation, it's proper scientific name should be used. Name me one other piece of legislation where slang, foreign language terms are used. You can't. Only when referring to Cannabis do legislators use a Spanish slang term, which term was used to demonize it. Some of the people who don't get that part need to look up the meaning of xenophobia, and check out "Reefer Madness" again. They did not use the "m" word to put a positive spin on it. Quite the opposite. It was used to project a negative connotation while at the same time fear mongering to the xenophobes of the day.
While you're testifying before congress, please tell those idiots what I just said.

I apologize for not reading most of thread. The name Marijuana was used to demonize cannabis by the same ignorant racist mentality, that made Reefer Madness!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I posted this, had not read the previous post by RG!!!! We were both, independently reminded of that horrible piece of propaganda, Reefer Madness, and the racist ignorance of the past.

What a coincidence, but we are probably both from same generation.

Can a poll be attached to the top of this thread? Is this something I could do?

If so I'd like the following question

Which term do you mostly use?
a) Marijuana
b) Cannabis
c) Pot
d) Ganja
e) Grass
f) Bud (edit : Loc Dog suggestion)
g) Other name

I would choose d) as I use the word ganja way more often than others.

I would think, most here, would prefer cannabis. Is the proper latin , scientific name, used for most plants, and has no negative connotations.

Offline, I call it bud.

I would rather see poll, whether the name Marijuana was assigned to give negative connotations.

Off topic, but cannabis is the most insignificant problem we have, health wise. Sugar, Caffeine, Opiate pharmaceuticals, and dozens of others. In 1970's I was a kid, and drank almost 2 litre of Pepsi a day.

Maybe a better poll would be to choose the names in order of preference or use

Pot and Grass date back to 1960's. Pot may have spilled over into early 1970's, east coast. Ganja was used by a lot of people, trying to act cool. This is all my opinions, from life experience, in my area. Do not want to sound like arrogant POS.

Doesn't bother me man... I couldn't care less if you wanna call me stupid...

Just don't go telling me what to call my beloved Marijuana...

I've read your posts before and know that you're not stupid because you make a lot of smart points.
I might not agree with what you say but I'll fight to the death for your right to say it.
By the way I'm a veteran of Panama and Iraq and I take your free speech rights seriously, I had friends that gave a lot for you to have them.
