Nirvana, alice in chains, pearl jam, and STP are some favorites of mine in the rock genre, their sound is great and it always has its place for me depending on how things are going. sad when musicians lives are cut short and also more great music from ever being created.

iv been listening

How could I forget Soundgarden?!? BadMotorFinger....best album ever. That Cd saw regular rotation in all my Cd players for many years, in fact I lost my first copy of that album, and immediatly went out and bought another one!
Also i can't believe i forgot Mudhoney. Superfuzz/Big muff was one of my favorite albums back in the day. Yeah you sound like you used to listento all the bands we used to back then. I actually grew to like Stone Temple Piolots ,later in my life, for some reason I didn't pay much attention to them(no prejeduce, hehe) ,but as I got older I gave them a listen and found they were pretty good.Believe it or not, I never was a big Pearl Jam fan, I know they're really talented and all, but for some reason they just never did anything for me.Maybe their music was too deep for me at the time or something...Plus we used to get stoned and make fun of Eddie Veder's voice.
When I think back on it, coming of age in the 90's was a special time for me musically.

Yeah Nirvana and Alice in chains, two of the most influential bands of the time, which contained probably two of the most influential people in the genre,Kurt Kobain and Lane Stanley , who both were the best singers of the time and they both died tragiclly. It would've been interesting to see where they would be today if they both didn't start messin' around with the"junk".
Yeah, it is sad!

it would be interesting to see where their music would have gone without the dope for sure, seeing many of their lyrics were based around addiction and their experiences, especially when it came to alice in chains. songs like dirt and junkhead, lanes lyrics definatly reflected largely on his experience with H.

P/Jam? Heh, i know what you mean, WitchKing, they're kinda "overstoned". And Veder's voice, sometimes it sounds like voice of that Fleetwood Mac singer, what was her name, Stevie Nicks, right? I realy didn't dig 'em up before their 3rd album, "Vitalogy". Some songs i did, like "Even Flow" and "Ocean" from first album and "Rearview Mirror" from the 2nd. But it seems like they're the only one left from those bands. O.K. there's Soundgarden's Chris Cornell in Audioslave and Nirvana's Dave Ghrol in Foo Fighters, but that's not it.
Yeah, another great band i used to listen to in the very early '90's was Danzig. To be honest, my interest for them came across Metallica's love for Glen Danzigs's first band Misfits. First Danzig album was the best, with songs like "Mother", "Am I a Demon" and "Hunter" (Ike and Tina Turner cover, crazy, isn't it).
And Type O Negative too. They had such darkness in their sound, that no other Metal band could ever reach. I guess it's a after effect of living in New York.

And "Down in the Hole" was inspired by his expirence with Peyote which was given to him from Slayer's Tom Araya.

Isn't it the usual senario..where a band who's music was heavily influenced by drugs..decides to clean up their act , but starts sucking as a result.Monster Magnet is a perfect example, The diffrence in the two albums"Spine of God" and "Superjudge" is like night and day, it was also after the "Spine of God" album that MonsterMagnet decide to quite drugs and clean themselves up, which hey...more power to em, but it fundamentally changed the direction of their music ,and I didn't care for the new direction.

'Down in a Hole' was written by Jerry, not Lane...

AIC rules... they're the only grunge band that didn't ride Nirvana's coattails into the limelight...

who here likes The Melvins... another great example of 'stoner rock'

The story about the inspiration for that song i heard in some MTV's Headbangers Ball interview, backthen, in '93. or maybe '92., not sure. Anyway, Layne explained, that Tom Araya gave some Peyote to him and Cantrell (possible to other band members too?) during the "Clash of the Titans" tour in '91. They had kinda bad trip from it, so they made a song refering to that expirience. Layne laughed a lot when he was talking about all that. And that's all i can remember from that i/view.

i didnt relise it was written from a mescaline experience, that is quite interesting, i knew it was written by jerry but figured it was loosely based on him watching laynes addiction. learn something new everyday i guess.

i missed a melvins show a while back, they put out some good music but i havnt picked up any of their cd's yet.

Anyone ever heard of Death by Stereo?
There latest one sounded more metal than punk but still had some punk rock elements.

Right now I'm listening too a lesser known metal band called Stygma IV.
They have a song called tsaunami that was realeased in 2000. A prediction of the devastion to come.

OOO, OOO, Supreme Commander just finished installing, should be good.

Prediction of the devastation to come? Well, Anthrax is world champion in that category. Do you remember those letters with some white dust, suspected to be anthrax spores, just a few months after 9/11? And what a big problems those guys had with their band name. Within a few days, they were top news around the world. Anyway, someone once said, it's better to have bad public image than to have non. It probably helped CD sales. But they had some more problems previously, like fire in their rehersal house/studio, Charlie Benate's brother killed and some other things (there was a show about ut on VH1).
It seems that Anthrax and Pantera are amongst worst luck metal bands.

The Soud of White Noise sounded to me like A/x become grunge but i didn't wanted to here 'em in that way (i fight against the prejudices, but, i guess, i'm full of it). That's very good album, probably the hardest they've ever made, but i couldn't get away from my previous picture i had of 'em. My favorute A/x album is "Among the Living" and EP "Penikufesin". Oh, and i forgot "Attack of the Killer B's", but that sounds more like an S.O.D album.

Whats up Metalheads?
Just sittin' and listening to A band called Solarized, great band. I'm
nice & high so if I ramble forgive me.I've gotten alot of good music over the course of the past couple a weeks:
Alabama Thunderpussy-"Open Fire" This disk has seen frequent rotation in my players as of late, they have a new singer(ex-exhorder), seems to have a really great voice ,though it's right on the border of being alittle too much. The songs are just great though, whole album just rocks. It will be available in stores sometime next month, let's just call the copy I have a "demo"
Also, another one is Nova Driver, there album "Void" is great, I didn't fast forward through one song(good sign), I'll be burning a cd of that for sure.
Core of the earth "curtains" A pretty good effort, real crunchy ,groovy feel to their music, I dug em'.I've still got a few more new ones to listen to , so I'll be posting them up soon.I'm glad it's friday, I think I'm going to chase the wife around tonight, and smoke a hooter. :D have a good weekend.Witch

Sounds interesting, ill have to check out some of those bands you mentioned WitchKing, recently iv been listening to alot more megadeth seeing i picked up some of the last CD's i was missing of original copy of theirs. Youthanasia is an awsome album been listening to that whole album probly a few times a day. just as with countdown to extinction not particularly any songs i dont really like, but among my favorites would definately have to include( Reckoning day, The killing road, blood of heroes, and Family tree) rest of the songs are great as well.

Always enjoyed dave mustane's lyrics and general view that he tries to get through in his music.

Hope your all having a great evening, Smoke on brothers, Dime

It still trips me out to think Dave Mustaine was the lead gutarist for Metallica at one time, imagune how diffrent their music woulda been if they had not kicked him out.
