hmm...depends alot on location, location, location :D

and ambient temps...

and how you actually use it to benifit your situation...

give us more details and soneone with similar experience can chime in, untill then i can say i use it to cool two 400w hps in cool tubes in a 5'x5'x8' closet and another to cool a 432w T5 in a 2'x4.5'x8' closet fine

Hey sacko, I was running three last round. The fan worked OK at best. It works very well with 2. Keep in mind my old hood are not very efficient at cooling. I bet the stanley would work well with the new vented hoods.

well went and picked one up at wally mart today it was $39 and change before tax. this thing does move a decent amount of air it amazing at how much its helping. i got the light on in the grow space and have it sealed off(not perfectly sealed but good enough so no lights goin through) before with the mh going by itself the temps got to like 100 degrees or something ridiculous, this is with the ballast in the area and now its staying at a good 74 75 degrees. sweeeeet!

i kinda redknecked the fan with duct tape and plastic hose like the kind they use underground for drainage in gardens and such. hooked peices up on the inlet and outlit sealed off with ductape. have the fan sitting on a shelf spot in the "closet" sucking in the air and blowing it out with a longer hose with a bend on the end of it directing the air towards the window.

i also found a oil candle with a big glass thing on it like hurricane glass/ looks like it should fit a 400w hps bulb.

If Ya don't mind Dopest, I'd like to address My Stanley versus 3ks of light.
I installed number 3 light today. I took some temps notes as I plugged in each light with just one light temps were 1 degree over ambient about 83
Temps jumped a whole 3 degrees with 2 lights. However with the 3rd light running the temps jumped 5 or 6 degrees over ambient. 1st hood was cool to touch .The 2nd ,slightly warm the 3rd fairly warm. BY placing my hand on the top.Now in defense of the Stanley. My old hoods are very inefficient at cooling. I see now I did a poor job installing 6" vents

I bet with newer better designed hoods the Stanley would work much better.
I'm considering adding a 2nd Stanley to the exhaust side. I don't know if thats practical. :chin:

well i just got back from wallyworld.. and they finally have the stan's availible.. i was shocked at how quiet these things are, and the amount of air it moves on the lowest setting even with my hand obstructing a good portion of the intake and it didnt get any louder while obstructed. so i think i'm going to buy one of these for sure. for 40 bucks this is one of the best fans i've ever seen. i still cant get over the quietness of it.. i think it will be possible for me to air cool my 400s in a stealth cab and have it completely silent with some minor modifications. two thumbs up for the stanley blower.

I went to three different stores looking for the stanley blower. Only one wally world had it, but only the display, none in stock. I had to order online from Home Depot, free shipping $49 total.

My cab was hitting almost 90deg. today. I hope the blower gets here soon.

I still have my Stanley in use for general room circulation since I got a 6" Vortex for 3x600w. Personally I dont think its strong enough to effectively cool more than a 600 or two, at the most, without other substantial cooling (more fans, AC, etc).

Growtime, You bring up a good point about other means of cooling. I turned off the AC & will take temp readings to see just how well the Stanley performs. . A 6" vortex pulls air from outside for ventilation .I'm running 2 1K's at this time .I did some more work on the hoods to improve the air flow.
the picts are a brief progression.
Looked like this.

Removed that .

Ended up looking like this

The final result

OK 6 by 10' room AC off 1 fan for circulation, 6" vortex drawing fresh air. 2,1k lights 18 inches off the canopy. Lights off from 8am to 8pm.
7am, Outside conditions 73F & very humid.room temp 76F ,canopy temp 77F
8am Lights out not much temp change in 1 hour but the RH is way too high. I had to turn on the dehumidifier. I will monitor the temps when the lights come on tonight.

rock on EZB581, those numbers look good to me. wish you could do another modded stanley in place of the 6" vortex just for shits and giggles, maybe later!

thanks for all the posts!!

Eh I dont think theres any way a Stanley will hold a candle to a 6" Vortex so I wouldnt even bother. You can easily feel the difference in air flow. I think its a good stop-gap measure but after having my Stanley start falling apart after only a few months (the duct tape has to be constantly redone) I wouldnt make it a permanent solution unless its a fairly small grow. Just my .02 as someone who started with a Stanley and went to a Vortex since....

Sorry for the delay, Ok, it's 345am 6/19. This is just about 1/2 way thru the 8hr lights on.
outside temps 78F.RH 60%
room is 79
canopy is 83
These temp differences are acceptable to me .I'm concerned what the lights out temps are at midday. It's been in the upper 80's. I will check these midday, lights out temps later today. The AC has been off for several days now. It hasn't even got close to hot here yet. I'm sure when the brutal high 90's & high humidity set in soon, the AC will be necessary.
The Stanley" is not" close to a vortex, I agree. Also I have my doubts if my current setup will be enough to cool a 3rd 1k light . I have a second Stanley & plan to obtain a 4th 1k light. I will use each Stanley to cool two lights each.
However, by the time I start running 4 ks of light I will be looking into a bigger 8" exhaust fan & filter. I will have the 6 inch vortex to see how it cools the lights. so the test continues!
I found a little silicone on the screw ends will hold it together when reassembling the brackets.

Grow time, I have two scrogs going. Both are just under 4 by 4 ' square. One is 16 inches off the canopy the other is 18 inches. I had to cut away a "lot" of the reflective panels at each end to accommodate the 6" vents. It did cut back on the effective foot print.

well it's raining like a big dog & rh is sky rocketing. Had to fire up the dehumidifier & turn off the fresh air vent. I'll have to address lights out temps another day!

Unfortunately the fan is becoming harder to find in my area, just a heads up it may be the same for some of you. It seems any left are just leftover from previous year. I always look when in those stores just to keep updated on certain types of items. Lowes has some weird looking replacement with lame square intakes and looks a bit harder to mod. So get em while ya can!
