Spider Mites or Just A Spider?

mute?
moot?

technalcially, I intended it as mute - as in, nuff has been said already - I'm tired of the discussion already and I addmitted my mis-guided conclusoion - now that point is moot.

carry on,

neem and tobacco may irratate your unwelcome guests, don't wait too get those strips - that's like a platoon of grunts with m-16's in comparison. - AND while a grower of low skill and ability might admit his inexperience and ineptitude by tossing that plant, given proper care, it should make it.

Sardonic- get the No Pest Strips! close them up with it- I shut the doors and the fans and let it build up. Got results in 24 hours.I am leaving them in there for at least a month to make sure I got all the cycles of growth.

personally, i wouldn't go spraying that mix on yer plants. They have enough problems with all the bugs.
and that first picture on this post is classic spider mites.
SPiders don't spin webs on living things. They might make one in a corner of the room or someplace, but not on yer plant.

Hello darlings,
have been busy saving my grow and thus my a** the past two months, and I haven't had time to cruise this site much and keep up on threads.

About two months ago my plants started looking funky, intuition said this ain't no nute or ph prob, but I played science with my mix trying to fix it anyways. ( hydro,GH nutes,4 gal cat litter buckets,800w hps flower, floro grow room)
at the time I had two Grimm 99's in late flower and a bunch of clones and two moms in veg.

Within a week it became evident what the problem was- one I had hoped I would never see!
The dreaded Spider Mite!

If there is any subject where it is appropriate to use ugly words such a c***suckers or c***s it is when discussing the spider mite.

I freaked. I had to cut early and wash the plants before I dried them.
It was not the quality I was used to. I lost all my clones except 1, that has held on and become the mother by default, though, having survived has proven how tough she is. I did almost everything that I read was reccommended. :fsu: :cuss:
The weird kitchen mixes in spray bottles. Neem oil spray. I tore down the flower room and built a new one in a new spot, took everything out of veg and bleached it and repainted it. Lady bugs, Mite predators, predator mites, jeesh. and I waited . and they seemed to be gone.
Started some new seedlings, put what I salvaged ( two from veg)in new flower room and a month into flower the mites are back on the new mother and the flowering plants.

I cried,OK? :badday:
googled swear words+spider mites, not even kidding
and found a thread on a dif site ( sorry ,cannabis.com) by some quazy mofo called opie utts who said save yer dough and buy some No Pest Strips.
so I went to HOme Deep Grow and got 2 for ten bucks. Put one in the flower room, one in the veg and at night shut off the fans so it can build up in the rooms.
It's been 48 hours and the only mites I see are dead. The new mom grew two inches of nice fresh leaf and I had to raise the lights on her. :jump:
I don't know if the eggs survive or how long before they hatch and die, so I am leaving them in there. I don't spend a lot of time in the rooms so I am not worried about exposure.
The other thing I found out in my googling travels is this has been the worst year for spider mites here in the usa - all kinds, even the people eating ones. yuck!
It has really pushed me to clean up my act here and be aware of what I am taking in there with me.
and I am looking forward to winter with even more enthusiasm than usual.

overgrow forever all for one plant!
terrible story, man. I hope things work out for you.

I've got a bunch of sticky traps hanging around, and i've been spraying them with neem oil in the morning, and tobacco juice at night.

the plants already seem to be doing better. my guess is this has more to do with the repotting after overwatering & nute burn and going under 800ws than it has to do with the mites and neem oil.

regardless, things are looking up.

thanks for everyones help

SolarT- So you're saying it's ok to make a false accusation that could have gotten sardonic and I banned ? And we should just let that slide ? You really thought you were on to something didn't you? A Punk Kid calling me a halfwit ... now that's funny (SolarT your application for my New Punk has been accepted). Are you also saying it was ok to post a pic of Reds (legends seeds) shipping methods (which MrM did on the thread you brought a post of his to this thread from ... why not link the whole thread?)? I was wondering why you reacted so badly to my post (which was helpful and made with good intentions on a Growing Forum) and I feel it is safe to assume that you are guilty of what we stand accused of. If you aren't MrM you're definitely sucking his body parts. Your posts and threats mean Nothing to me. Y'all are gonna have to find some better ammo. Your attacks are weak ... Tighten your game up before you step this way Punk(s) ...

enough with the bitching you guys! let's stick to the subject!
Sardonic I am worried about your plants.
No pest Strips are WAY different than sticky traps- which won't do squat for spider mites.
The No Pest Strips have> DICLHORVOS
accent on the DIE!!!! Close up yer room ( 24hrs)to let the chemical build up- if your ventilation is on it won't work as good. I turned off my fans at night and shut them up.
Safe for your plants but not for mammals to be exposed to for more than 4 hours a day. READ THE WRAPPER ABout 5 bucks each

thanks juana.

hmm..so you're telling me these sticky traps don't work huh? I shut off the ventilation when the lights are off, and each time I do when I come back there are little black specs on them. seems to be working so far

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but with a web like that, your best bet is tossing everything....by the time mites make webs your way, way, too late....sorry bud...just my .02 cents

hey hillbilly!
I read a post you made on a dif thread while back, talking about looking for a good woman friend...did ya find one? What continent are you on? haha! I am in Midwest USA- I would send you a PM but don't have enough posts.
Sardonic- could be gnats sticking to your sticky traps- thats what I'm guessing.
HAve you looked at any of your leaves with a radio shack maginifier like everybody uses? They cost around 8-10 bucks and are a good investment. You can see what the bugs are on your plants, see if they are still alive.
Once you see them you'll have a better idea of what you are dealing with- and why people freak when they get them.
Gross little evil things!
and by the looks of that first photo of them- you got them BAD! That's why hillbilly said that. They make your plant sick fast and then they pick up all kinds of other pests and fungus. It's a nightmare.
I can't be any clearer about the No Pest Strips. Put the bong down and go get some NOW. ( tee hee)

ya that does looks like spider mites; does your leaves have little white spots on them or see little black like bugs running around underneath leaves?

When you have webbing on your plants you already have a bad infestation of them...... you should get 2 methods of removing them and one of them should be sticky traps and the other you can choose one......... click on the link in my sig and scroll down to spider mites

that's the reason i bought sticky traps. are you saying he's incorrect, juana2?

I ask because I really can't afford to go throwing more money out if I'm not 100% sure that it needs to be done

thanks for the help

Floramite is the best solution and the best value. A small amount can be purchased at a site called hidhut.com I have never used there serves so please use at you own use. I purchased a large quart at a high end rose site. But a 30 dollar 1/2 of floramnite will last a long time for a closet grower. Make sure to also get a product called sturrip-m its a pheremone and it draws mites to the active solution that last 21 days killing adults and eggs for total control. Having a 21 day affect you only have to spray once to control you problem.

I was wondering where you got the idea sticky traps Sardonic, now I know. Spidermites don't move fast enough or far enough to dent the population with sticky traps. hell you could wrap the plant in sticky and most the mites will just stand there and suck the life out of the plant.

3 or 4 days ago we said No Pest Strips - turn the net off and go get them NOW. Do you? ohhhhh nooooooooo, so
in that time, you probably have 5 times as many mites and there are more hatching evey minute.

you were warned, spidermites are not your friend

sardonic the problem is one of numbers....by the time they've made webs its means they are in the millions....soon to be billions...mites are a pain in the ass to get rid off...the best thing imo is to start fresh....bleach the entire room...again hate to be the one, and again its only my opinion....

I don't understand, hillbillie. why would that be the case? can a bad infestation not be fought off?

If you able to kill EVERY LAST one of them INCLUDING EVERY last EGG. If a single one survives they will be back.

hmm..well I bought the no pest strips. i've got two in the garage. that plus sticky traps (they're catching something..), plus tobacco juice and neem oil..things should start to look up

I won't go ripping the whole place apart just yet, but I will do some very thorough cleaning and such. I believe me and the girls can make it through these rough times with a little hope and hard work.

Well you have collected some good erradication tools and quite a few Good Opinions (the trolling was ... I'm sure ... a bonus). I wish you the best in your war with the mites. Let us know how this saga unfolds and what you think worked best (or not at all) in solving your problem.
