So when I'm filling out the submission form on spectrum's site I can't seem to find anywhere to select the K3 package. Is this where it should be?

Get K3. And get your water tested.

Idk about the online form.

How do I get a K3 without filling out a form? I've never done any of this before

I'm confused about how you actually order a test. Do I need to email spectrum and ask for it?

Sorry my feeble stoner mind is having trouble getting a grip on all this lol

You are not alone...we are on the same log together.

Also, do I need to get the soil bag from them or can I use something else?

So what I do is send in an order form with my soil samples in ziploc bags and include cash. If you don't have a printer you can hand write the form but don't give them a hard time with some shit handwriting. Just write your sample names, which test you want, and tally the prices up and enclose cash.

Planting is correct.

Otherwise just write on a piece of paper, your name, the sample id, your email and K-3, and send in the funds. You can always email them, no worries.

Sounds easy enough, thanks planting!

I don't seem to notice pricing anywhere on the site? Do I just send a handful or my lunch money?

lol i cant remember off the top. Call em. I think its like 21 for k1, 41 for k2, 51 for k3. I think i give them 31 for a weighed k1. They should make a code for weighed k1.

I am starting to think that no one should be testing a fresh *unwatered* mix. You won't get real Na or S numbers for one. I'll send a couple tests in.

Very good point planting, tested some Roots Greenfield's potting soil and it had high Na and S.

Been searching for a good topsoil lately to add to my peat/ coco mix. The "E. topsoil" came from a cypress/ Redwood forest, and the Mck topsoil came from a coastal grassland area. Burn pile is mix of charcoal and soil from an oak and fir slash pile on my property.

Btw they won't upload test results to the account. I tried making one and asked them to upload my past results but they said due to the small volume of K tests they can't.

any insight on this soil is welcome please..
found this soil localy for use as part of my base mix, its hot at EC 3, but i guess im going to cut it
what are they talking about Ammonium acetate?
thanks in advance

Technical data:
Humidity 105 ° C: 1.4%
PH (ext.1; 25.5 H2O): 7.6
Cond. Elec. 25 ° C (ext 1; 25.5 H 2 O): 3.01 dS / m
Mat. Organic (Walkley-Black): 2.90%
Nitrogen-nitric (N-NO3): 20 mg / kg
Phosphorus (P) (Olsen): 62 mg / kg
Potassium (K) (ext. Ammonium acetate): 856 mg / kg
Magnesium (Mg) (ext. Ammonium acetate): 380 mg / kg
Calcium (Ca) (ext. Ammonium acetate): 4453 mg / kg
Sodium (Na) (ext ammonium acetate): 171 mg / kg
Carbonates: <3%

Ammonium Acetate is the extraction acid/method. It's mostly what we're using in this thread per Slownickel.

What lab are you using? There really is a LOT of variance in labs and methods.

Do you have % of cec for the cations on that test? Or calculate it. I can't comment about metric data off the top of my head at all. Could at least convert to PPM. High PH.

That's really what we're working with because mg/kg only means something when compared to the cec and the other cations.

Convert the data to meq and compare to the CEC.

this is data given out from the supplier..
i only have this data...
ok i will try and get my head round the conversion.. still new to this
thanks

Tnt yes k3 has no3 and nh4.

Search google for how to calculate cec and you will find simple formulas for using your results to estimate cec and cation base saturation. The lab they used used amm. acetate because the pH is high. In here we have been using mehlich 3 results but with AA Ca results. So idk how far off the calcs will be if you only use aa #s. They are usually only a little lower than m3 so maybe it is closeenough to get an idea of saturation % without sending a sample?

correct me if im wrong..

mg/kg is identical to ppm no?!

nitrogen (20ppm) x 2 = 40 lb/acre
calcium (4453ppm) x 2 = 8906 lb/acre
phosphorus (62ppm) × 2 × 2.2913 = 284.12 lb/acre
potassium (856ppm) × 2 × 1.2046 = 2062.28 lb/acre
Mg (380ppm) x 2 = 760 lb/acre

C.E.C. = [(lb K ÷ 780) + (lb Mg ÷ 240) + (lb Ca ÷ 400)] × 1

K - 2062.28 ÷ 780 = 2,64
Mg - 760 ÷ 240 = 3,16
Ca - 8906 ÷ 400 = 22,26

CEC = 28
