Skunk #1 Mediumless Closet Grow

Hey Dimebag! I know the running out of stash bit all too well unfortunately. Good luck for hard times bro! :smoke:

-VT-...my man....what's up? That party's gonna rock! :headbange I've got a few photos from today for you too.

These blueberry sisters are gorgeous. Besides, who doesn't like twins? I've hit the scale a few times in a row at 4 day intervals but the scale are just laughing at it. I got my hands on some pyrethrin based spray with cannola oil just like End All that I'm hoping will do the trick. The little suckers attach to the stems of the plant everywhere and the crawlers wreak havoc....but I'm gonna beat em soon! :beat-dead

Other than that, the screen is about 60% filled, so maybe another week or just a tad longer till flower while I apply a couple new treatments to the scale. I'm planning a major attack in a day or two coupled with a major trimming to make sure we've got enough tops getting light. That should thin us out enough to help make pest control easier too.

So, for those that think S2D can't grow, look at these beauties! I beat the pest and my plants will be perfect! :woohoo:

I absolutely can NOT wait for this BB scrog. BB is one of the few strands that I have really been looking into. While 70s and Rush are here, anyone know of a knock you on your ass indica? I have a strong interest in a VERY strong indica, so any knowledge of a couple of good types would be helpful.

I'll be keeping up with this thread!

Hey XGovernor  I've heard LUI is a pretty nice indica, and it's one I've definitely been wanting to try.

As for the blueberries....mmm....they have a sort of spicy undertone right now from what I can tell messing with them. Both have purple, woody stalks. I am noticing a few mutant leaves every here or there, but nothing to really even speak of as far as blueberry is concerned. Just a short leaf on a fan every here or there or a little kink. Kinda cool.

When it comes to the vigor of the plant, from what I have seen so far they are VERY hearty plants. Feeding them is like sloppin' the hogs they eat so much. I'm running them over 1000ppm already, and they might could take more, but I'm not pushing the nutes this time because the scale really affects the plants uptake too it seems making it hard to judge their feeding, but these definitely require more nutes than the skunk ever asked for.

At this point I am EXTREMELY pleased. Can't wait to see what flower brings. Remember, I selected this from a friends DP BB grow where he had three females. One had a bit of mutation, one was a more sative leaning pheno, and this one was the indica looking one, and also had the most frost.

Who knows, I might have a hell of a keeper, but I only saw them trimmed and drying. :yummy:

Hey Gauismarius! :friends:

Glad to see you checking in buddy! The truth be known, with this little water cooler going, I've got this growing thing so licked. The only trouble is the scale insects, and they are a SOB! :cuss:

Anyway, I was forced to do a major trim yet AGAIN this run to help control the scale. I trimmed away a ton of fans to get rid of the most damaged/infested parts of the plant. Then I sprayed them with the pyrethrin/cannola spray yesterday. The plants seem to appreciate the help big time and look very happy today.

I am going to post some pics soon of the scale ALL up and down the stalks of the plant. I don't know why, but this time I can see them everywhere on the stalks. I don't know if the woody stalks of the blueberry are less resistant to the scale than the more green stalks of the skunk#1, but it's an interesting observation.

I have a thread about scale insects where I am trying to put a good bit of information about them in the infirmary. It seems that I am the only one to experience the issue to any extent on almost any cannabis forum, so hopefully my thread will be useful in the unlikely event that anyone has the kind of luck I do to be infested with a horrible pest most people know nothing about in the cannabis community.

I assume outdoors these pests are easily controlled by natural predators, and have more enticing food prospects than just cannabis? Heck, who knows?

So, these blueberry are some kick ass little veggers. The screen is nearly full, even getting away from me in the pics below. You wouldn't know they've been heavily trimmed a few times and sprayed repeatedly for the scale. I'm stepping it up to every 2-3 days max for spraying. The crawlers seem to be overlapping and just wrecking stuff.

Here's a pic of the scale clearly visible on almost all stems. The crawlers are invisible completely, at least to me, but I'm watching the damage move on new growth. It's funny because I have never seen them visibly take over the stalks like this on other crops. I would only find one or two. I guess the BB resistance to scale is LESS than my other strains.

So, I've gotta get a couple more good sprays in before I flower, but the screen is gonna be OVERGROWn by the time I flip em.

Anyway....my grow is rockin hard, but so are the little scale boogers. We'll see as I step up the attacks. :dueling:

Flowers soon.....for now, here's some skunk#1 I'm puffin! :canabis:

Hey Chamez! Thanks man...I'm working hard against the pests to have a good harvest here. Look for the phat little indica pheno! :headbange

So, here's a little update. Screen's almost full. Continuing heavy attacks of pyrethrin/cannola spray. Seems to be working some.

Here's the ladies and a couple close ups of the scale.

These two close ups of the scale are the same stem, same area to give a better idea of what you're looking at.

Thanks Dimebag! I just wish like hell I can beat this pest. I'm gonna try to get one more spray in and flip em to flower. It seems like the scale is slowing down. Dirty bastards! :asskick:

I think this MIGHT be my last grow in this space. We MAY be moving....not sure yet. If we do move, I will have a much larger grow space.

I don't want to lose my mommas, but I am cloning them off now to make smaller moms. I need to treat them too, but they are too large for their britches anyway, and they will be easier to treat as small clones.

I am hoping if we do move, the new space will never see an infection of these bastards. I'm contemplating ditching all my mommas and buying new seed stock. Who knows?

Some more close ups of the scale....pisses me off cuz I think the black spots are sooty mold. Some of my bud turned moldy smelling after sitting in a jar for a while but was completely dry and cured at least a month. I inspected the stem in the bud and these black dots were there, but no other visible mold. Hmm....wish anyone had an answer. I'm about to wipe out the whole crop and say forget it until we move....IF we move. :fsu:

Hey Dimebag! I'm kicking those little suckers with the spray every 2 days now and it seems I am making some headway. Dunno if I can completely lick em yet, but I can sure hurt the little suckers! Good thing about mites is they don't bring sooty mold with them. Good luck this season!

GlazedEyes+RS Well....You ask some good questions, amigo. The way it works is this. Behind my 3x5 closet is our water heater closet, and the access is in my closet. That's the panel of drywall against the back wall you see. Still haven't painted the new cover I put on there, oh well.

There's a hole in the top of the closet that the 6" duct passes through. You can see here:

In this pic below, you can barely see my intakes on the bottom right of the photo. They are simple light traps flat black inside the excess tubings I had. I made 2x6" ducts and 1x4" duct. On the outside wall are two regular 6x12 vent covers one over the other with filters behind them. These are just passive intakes. A 449cfm 6" Vortex pulls air through these intakes, through the closet, across the lights, and out the back.

With the closet 3x5x7' I have an air exchange rate of about 2x a minute. It actually figures to like 4-5 times a minute, but with restriction (filters, etc), I'm sure it exchanges at least twice a minute. Very fast...

In the heater closet behind this is the fan which is mounted to the back wall directly behind where the duct passes through. It goes through the hole and straight down blowing towards the floor. That water heater closet has another vent into our laundry room that allows the air to exit it. The ballasts are also housed on the floor of that cubby hole and the fan blows directly on them.

I grow legally for religious purposes so I don't do anything about smell. Can get danky round here at times. I am of course willing and able to assert my freedom to this religious practice, but being so open about it isn't for the faint of heart. However, when you know you're right about your rights, there's nothing to worry about.

Four years growing and posting with no proxy, no odor control, and a not so quiet mouth are one of the big differences you will see between me and others. I'm in the USA and I stand for the rights of ALL truly spiritual users of entheogens. I stand against the Abrahamic religions which have tried to wipe out my kind for thousands of years and assert my religious freedom for the benefit of everyone.

Inhaling and ingesting plants for a psychoactive effect has been a part of many religions throughout and since the beginning of history. It's a form of witch craft or shamanism, and the Abrahamic scriptures (christian, muslim, etc) specifically call for all of my kind to be put to death.

People who believe like me have been drawn and quarted, beheaded, burned at the stake, and today we are persecuted by anti-witch craft draconian drug laws which seek to silence our kind, and undermine the very root of our beliefs.

Anyway.....in soooo many words, no odor control, but good ventilation!

Yes, that it would, and I will absolutely, without a doubt, fight it to the death. I refuse to submit.

The first amendment guarantees "congress shall make no law regarding the establishment of a religion or the free exercise thereof." Some of my beliefs in cannabis sacrament have been established long since before the world ever thought of hearing about christianity or many of our modern religions. Over 10,000 years of recorded history and fossil records prove that man has indeed used cannabis in daily life and as a spiritual tool since the dawn of time. Funny, they don't mention that in their anti-drug commercials do they? There are, of course, many other things that support my right to use cannabis LEGALLY for religious purposes.

I honestly don't care if they do come after me. It would just prove what I'm saying about the drug war being a witch hunt. I am prepared to fight them tooth and nail on this issue if need be, but I don't live in fear.

I am free. I know my rights, and I will assert them until I die a natural death or they kill me for it. :headbange

I'd like to suggest that you get a NO PEST STRIP and put it in the grow room with your plants. That may preclude the need for spraying and will carry you thru the grow.

I am not positive a no pest strip will work on scale, although it might because it's a severe nerve toxin. I would have to completely seal my growroom while it's in there which could only be lights out because of heat. Those things are extremely dangerous though, and I'm not sure I want to use one around pets and kids, but I do appreciate you stopping in and offering help!
