Ahh...
coffee and a joint of homemade ice hash. Damn fine combination, and one I highly recommend.
Emptied out the trim bags yesterday and chucked it in the ice bucket, nice combination of gelato crosses and chem trim.
It sent mrs brunch off for a wonderful sleep last night, and it kicks the purchased weed into the corner for now :tiphat:

We’re getting a lovely chill to the air this weekend, clear skies and sun with a crisp edge... love it.
Pulled down the pea plants and runner beans earlier as they’re finished for the season - sweet corn has a little fattening left to do, and the tomatoes are still producing- but it’s fast becoming my favourite time of year.
Some leaves are beginning to change colour and the horse chestnuts are getting big... blackberries are fat, and I picked an apple from the one of the trees- still a little sharp but edible, and I think we’ll be having a blackberry and apple strudel tomorrow.
Sorry for my rambling, but I love it (did I say that already? )

Hello september! Apple and blackberry is one of the best combos at this time of year. Very satisfying munchies however you put them together. Quite easy to forage for if you happen to live in a town too

Got me a shed this year but it's full up with tools and workbench, very nice new shed smell tho. Get my toking done in the utility room which is cheating for this thread but keeps the neighbours out of range and the wife just about on side.

Not cheating at all mate... a refuge is a refuge wherever it sits, and if a utility room gets the job done it’s all good!
Went out with little miss Brunch for a walk yesterday and there were loads of blackberry bushes so we took the opportunity.. so much rain this year they’re all huge
Pastry is already cooling in the fridge.... :tiphat:

Oh man.. I love blackberries. But where I live in Virginia they come in July.
In mid late May My favorite-. "wineberries" or Japanese raspberry. Dark red, sweeter than blackberries (at least the kind that grow here).
Me and wife take two milk jugs each and cut most of top off but leave the handles. We run our belts thru the handles.

Mulberries are good but the stem stays attached.

The natural freebies are always the best... our hedge out front produces some nice plum type fruits (not quite sure what they are, some are yellowish when ripe, some are dark) they taste good, I should really think of a use for them
Nice idea with the milk jugs, they tend to get a bit squashed in the bag.

Yeah the blackberries hold up better. But the wineberries are hollow so they will start to crush if stacked to high.
We dump then into flat cardboard boxes before they start to crush in the jugs.

I've been wanting to look at the wineberry plants trichomes under a microscope. These plants have fury red stalks. And your hands get oily or greasy while collecting the berries. There are little barbs but not thorny like our blackberries.

Just had to google wine berries as I’d never seen them before... interesting, says they breed true from seed, may be worth me trying to grow some

tried transplanting vines to my back yard for 3 years. no luck, they died. threw some out that were too far gone to eat. birds ate them & shit in same corner of yard apparently. NOW i have wineberries/red raspberries.:woohoo: old folks here in Appalachians call 'em wineberries too. i call them "delicious"...make good wine too!

There used to be a long row of black raspberries that were wedged between a field and wood line behind my grandparents house. I used to save my Easter basket and fill it up to the top. A note to take, the darker the better! The birds also tend to know this and do a decent job distributing seeds in their droppings... About a decade ago the city decided to clear the field and hedge line out, killing all those old bushes... :bashhead: Typical.

I recently stopped back there and noticed the bushes had begun to return, but in a scattered pattern instead of row. :) Life will find a way. :peacock:

G'day Mate ... from over the Great Water. Ah, jolly old England and its deciduous trees and its unique green colour.

Were I sentimental I 'd miss those things.

My predecessors were even Foresters.

My Saxon surname indicates my ancestors may have had a forge under a mighty spreading oak.

But I don't care about that ...

Onward ...

I have to say, I do love this country- don’t think I could ever leave it.
It’s a shame, however, that the people running the place are an absolute joke - rich old boys doing favours for richer old boys- and currently the laughing stock of the western world.
The land itself is beautiful.

Well, I was a kid when my Parents took me away to this quarry. But after all I 'm happy they did because the masses of people in jolly old Blighty would have me as paranoid as can be. And I could never have owned 160 acres of forest miles from anywhere which I do now. And we don't have brexit.
Hope you're all well and ... Thanks for your thread!

Ok, I’m sold ... 160 acres and no brexit sounds like heaven. You know the country has lost the plot when it tries to leave the continent it resides in.
Seriously though, even a little less population density would be amazing... nothing like loads of neighbours overlooking the garden to put me off outdoor growing

All the best to you and yours mate, hope life is treating you good :tiphat:
