Overview of the whole plant

Here is that scion done with my new method of grafting: Shaved an 1 - 1 1/2 inches off the side of the branch and the side of the cutting and stuck em together with scotch and grafting tape. Plain and simple. No bag needed just misted it a few times. It's like I added a branch to the stem where there was none.

Here's my 5gal Air-Layering ... cant see roots at the top of the soil yet but I imagine that the roots are workin their way around a pot.

That's all for now folks.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. :thank you:

moritzst PCBuds - If you're asking me about the noise level in the grow room... there are two 6" inline fans so it is a bit noisy. If your asking if the experiment is working... yes as you can see in my last update there the middle is still 100% in veg, it's not flowering at all and there's nothing wrong with the flowers either no deformities or hermies or nothin. The whole plant is hungry because I didn't give it enough food. I think it may have enjoyed a bigger container as well.

Should I defoliate for week 8?

Should I defoliate for week 8?

Thanks for the kind words friends. :huggg:

A week from tomorrow makes 8 weeks. I'll be harvesting all the flowers right at that mark. I let my last cycle go 9 and I ended up wishing I had pulled at 8 for a couple different reasons. One being a lot of fox tailing seemed to happen in that ninth week. If they were further from the lights that wouldn't be a concern but I have not 1 cm at all to move lights up or colas down. It's a tight fit.

I'm considering plucking just about all the leaves on the Peyote Cookies and Sugar Black Rose for the final (8th) week to allow the light in more to some of the lower buds. My thinking is that the lower buds will ripen up better and develop more color and maybe more potency, more terps. I wouldn't think this would hurt yield much, I figure they've put on most if not almost all of their weight already. Nor do I care too much about that even if i lost a whole OZ between the two plants which I doubt that would be close to the case.

I'm wondering if any one reading this practices final week or half week defoliation. Is that even really a thing? Does any one know of any good reasons not to do it? I'd also imagine it might further lesson chances of bud mold developing.

Please any one and every one share with me your thoughts on this topic.

Ok , I was in chat and asked .. the consensus was why cut the solar panels off , wait for them to use their last energy and turn yellow to get the most out of the grow .. or selectively cut part that are more ready and let the last go to term.
Also maybe check tri colors for readiness.

Hope this helps.

To prevent bud mold or fungus (which cost me over an ounce of finest kind once) I go heavy on internal fans. Some would even say that I go overboard but I'm not allowing fungus on Judy ever again.

I'm in agreement with diverdave. Green healthy leaves are organic solar panels. They are soaking up light and through photosynthesis are providing the nutrients she needs for big buds.

I lollypop at the start of flowering but I don't remove foliage unless it is touching the dirt, torn by a fan, or 75+% yellowed. IMHO either the foliage is an asset (and stays) or a liability that's draining resources and gets cut off.
2 days prior to harvesting I trim off all the fans I can get to. Then the next day I shut off the lights for 24 hours, then harvest.
Good luck

It kinda looks to me the buds on these plants are pretty much done growing. Any new hairs at this point look some what out of place. I could probably harvest them now. They’re both mostly indica like 90-100% and have earlier harvest times. I think I might wait one more day or two maybe I’ll completely defoliate 50% of each plant 5 days before harvest that way I can see what the differences are.

Continued to research this , leave fan leaf in place , use scope to check for amber on tricones for ripeness .. the human eye is not good gauge for ripeness.

You will love using a scope .. I have a hand held one , you need to take sample off plant to view on steady surface (pita) or get one that clips to smart fone (I don't have one).

Your nearing the end and I'm just beginning this last phase.

I have a jewelers loop and I can see the triches pretty good with that. Held in front of my IPhone with zoom is even better and that’s how I take my macros. Last time I tried to wait for even 10% amber I had the fox tailing and some other issues that made we wish I had pulled at 8 weeks instead of nine. Even at nine I still probably even have 15% amber. Even on my most indica strains.

My goal is to get my two tents offset so I’m harvesting one each month any how so I'll always just be harvesting at 8 weeks. If a strain isn’t done by then I probably won’t keep it around. I also keep that in mind while picking strains to add to the garden.

I was looking at the plants again today was really thinking about pulling all the leaves to get more light to the lower buds for at least a few days in a row before I harvest it.

Because of your research and suggestion and the consensus on it I’m gonna stick to defoliating just half of each plant so I/we can see how each side differs.

Funny you said that , one member in the chat was giving his 2 cents and said .. well if he wants to chop fan leafs then tell him to do it to just one and see where things lead to when he compares to final harvest of all his tent.

Also now that you say you want to defoliate large leafs from plant .. I do recall someone giving me advise that when they do it (they had 2 schedules for doing this one at day 24'ish and other at 48'ish) fans only and then only do 3 or 4 fans leafs at a time .. more tends to send her into a stress state (stops growing).
You can do as you please , its your grow and by no means do I know everything there is to know about this.

I do look forward to seeing more photos and maybe catch you in chat where there is always someone with knowledge on our hobby.:plant grow:
