San Diego Finest Cuts #3

Not to come off like a dick or anything man, but you and about 80% of SD are in the same boat... wishing they could work on a legal pot farm getting paid to do it.

Best words of wisdom i've heard recently from a very well established older grower in this community.... if you're not already established and rooted in with the proper connections, you've pretty much already missed your chance.

Let's all get a bong....I know you both and have invited you both to the Buds and Beers gatherings.
FWIW, Caligreen1 is original SDF crew. DoomsDay has been instrumental in getting the community together this year so....respect to both of you.
Caligreen..have you thought about leveraging your photog/digital media talents into something related to the emerging legal market? Branding is the name of the game now and you got the skills that could play nicely with that

For poops and giggles it would be cool if someone with a license subbed out space for the little fish a la hair salon style.

I'm sure there would need to be a bit of logistics to work out, but it would seem a profitable venture for the license holder, and a feel good thing for the little guys.

I'm not sure it would pass the legal mumbo jumbo but hey, it's fun to look at possible alternative ventures.

Been lazy in the photo region GT...I have only recently started my grow and am amazed by the scene now a days. I am so jealous of the people with large ops that get to pop and phenos and explore, I just want a piece and there has to be an opportunity somewhere. Recently watching youtube footage I get envious seeing people with no experience cashing in... Still doing my thing silently.

I know Erik with NugShots well enough that I could make an introduction. If you find me on instagram
@Grow.Tech
I'll link you to some of his work if you're not familiar.
The big Ops have equally big pockets behind them and they'll need deep pockets cuz it's going to take a boat load of cash to pay all the licensing etc. A friend told me he was looking at 50K for a fire suppression system
I hear the people that made the most $$$ during the gold rush were the guys selling picks and shovels. There's def opportunity if you find the right ancillary product or service. I bet most of those products and services have much lower barriers of entry than actuallyproducing cannabis does.
FWIW, I've enjoyed my garden much more since I stopped hoping it would pay any bills. Growing quality cannabis consistently is fucking hard

I am still very much getting used to small containers and limited vertical space. Lots of plants are getting topped multiple times in early flower - with no ill effects / herms.

Apologies on the bad cell phone pics - I discovered my Nikon's battery is dead and I'm too lazy to wait.

Probably sounds weird but that is reassuring to hear. it all looks so easy when you see premium bud shots all day long in these threads.

Not in any way intending to come off like a hater caligreen1, just stating facts. If you've got some roots in the industry already, as GT has pointed out, then your ahead of the curve. All comes down to the simple fact that with sd expanding into a somewhat legal territory, a majority of those able to cash in on / become apart of the boom have already aligned their ducks.

For sure Doomsday sorry if I sounded harsh. Like i said I'll just keep doing my thing.

I am fairly sure most people will keep on doing whatever they have been doing, especially seeing as the laws as written at the moment are not exactly going to allow for a free and open market.

It is in my opinion the artificially small number of producers/license holders that will be the seeds of any future non compliance issues with those of us who aren't currently well funded, or in the loop with whomever one needs to be in the loop with at this time.

I believe to a small extent that the restricting of licenses is in part a move to protect the large grow operations from competition, and to minimize the effort needed by the state and local governments to regulate the industry.

This belief of mine seems likely as it is a path to maximizing state revenue with no real risk to the state.

Who holds the major risk? Obviously if there are a minimum of producers those producers must grow many more plants that the Feds will willingly overlook (at least for now). The state is knowingly creating a legal environment that is putting its own citizens at risk to satisfy California's desire to reap great rewards.

In addition to that, it seems the duration of licensing is just one year...few startups turn a profit in one year particularly when run under strict regulations. Typically it takes between two and three years to be profitable.

I want to reiterate that I have no issue with anyone who has been in the industry long enough to be of a size that draws the states interest for licensure, I am more of the opinion that the big players are going to be used and tossed at will, to support the states desire to take in as much as they can.

Meanwhile the little fish will be pecked at with impunity because they have no realistic path to legality. Additionally the personal grower will not be allowed to grow outside, an obvious nod to the power companies where profits will certainly increase as more people try their hand at growing a plant or two or more.

I see a new sort of drug war coming, one where we as growers big or small feel a sort of false sense of security and just let the enemy walk on in and take everything we worked for.

I think on the face of it all our enemy has not changed sides, they have just changed tactics.

Cali, I had missed those last lines myself...

The City also proposed the following prohibitions to further clarify what is not permitted:

Sale and distribution of marijuana and marijuana by-products at special events;

Outdoor growing of personal residential marijuana; and

No smoking in public places or on the business premises.

Says also proposed. Wasn't approved? Likely to be approved?
I dunno.

I doubt outdoor grows of any sort will be approved in San Diego; mainly because of the zoning and security requirements.

I'm unsure if a personal greenhouse grow would be considered indoor, even though it is technically behind a door, walls, and under a roof.

Considering the location that San Diego has picked to allow cultivation I presume they are thinking warehouse grows, which is exponentially more costly than outdoor or greenhouse. My fear for the San Diego scene is that our legal weed is not going to be as profitable as less restrictive locations.

That being said, perhaps the growers who start up here will move on of their own accord for more profitable locations.

Ahh the BS of market manipulation...it's a wonder anything gets done.

I will ask about the personal grow green house thing, I predict a non-answer.

Anyone know what one of these licenses is going to cost?

Superstition (Afghani)

SSH × (MAU × ETH) various unsexed clones

ChemD on the left CDubb on the right

SSH × (MAU × ETH) unsexed seed plants

I know some folks have these SSH × (MAU × ETH) seeds, I'll be putting some into flower as soon as these root out their cups.

Personally my plan is to reverse the SSH × (MAU × ETH) and hit the Superstition in hopes for a 10 +/- a few days week true finish.

Truthfully though I'm perfectly okay with anything that finishes in 120 days so long as its killer weed.

Looking through and reading I'm wide eyed at all the "inspections" you have to get approved by...Looks like you would need a team of people working on all aspects to get a permit/license. I'm sure there are people doing it, but it sounds tough! And you are right dooms day, only one year permits that maybe get reinstated? Ugh.
